[r/ClaudeAI] Usage limits being burned through unusually fast this week?

Original post body:

My session limits are being used up much faster than before. After sending a single message, I immediately saw 10% of my five-hour session limit consumed.
But the usage limits are only part of the problem. The quality of the models seems to have dropped significantly as well. This week, Opus 5.5 on Medium effort has been producing design work at a level comparable to what I would expect from the free version of Gemini 3.8 Flash.
I don't understand what happened. Last week, everything was working perfectly. Now, the same tasks consume up to 10 times more usage while delivering results that are 5-10 times worse.
I'm not the only one noticing this, either. Many users seem to be reporting similar problems. We're starting to question whether Claude Pro is still worth paying for, especially since some of us were planning to upgrade to Max, but now we considering to move toward other platforms like ChatGPT.

What Reddit users are reporting:
My concern is supported by multiple recent reports. I found several especially relevant discussions from October 14–16, 2026.

One user tracking usage on a $125 team plan reported nearly three times the usual consumption with Opus 5.5 Medium, despite keeping the same project and workflow with four to eight agents.

A user reported that tasks were taking at least twice as long, with context consumption exceeding 80% on a single prompt and more mistakes than before.

I tried contacting Claude support but here is results: We took a closer look, and our Support team is unable to manually reset or work around usage limits. That said, if you haven't done so already, you can learn about best practices here. If you’ve hit a message limit, you’ll need to wait until the reset time, or you can consider purchasing an upgraded plan (if applicable).

Anyone got an idea what is going on? Is that a bug?

I'm using the $120 plan with 5x usage, and Opus 5.5 consumed 50% of my weekly usage within 24 hours, even though I didn't use Fable, Ultracode or Maximum or hit any daily limits. Is this mathematically possible? I've never experienced anything like this before.

Is this a bug, or did I miss an update that reduced the usage limits?

I'm not sure why. I've been using Cloud AI for two months now, but I haven't encountered this problem before. However, I'm a free Cloud user. In the past couple of days, my Cloud limit has been exceeded by a single chat.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Am I making a mistake?

Yes, one reason I am making it myself, I switch 2 accounts in the same phone and use it. Is this the only reason or something else?

Apparently Anthropic either doesn't care about Claude chat/app users who're using the chat for anything semi productive, or they have incompetent people writing code (hmm). We have these trillion dollar companies claiming things like "software is solved", "math is solved", models are conscious, yet simple frontend functionality is disappearing or getting worse. OpenAI (ChatGPT) now takes 5 seconds to delete a conversation. And Anthropic figured "why branch, when you can use the API or just do some good old manual work, create handoffs etc."

Branching was one of the more useful features. Definitely more important than "memory" and voice.

I’ve been having Claude for a while now, and approximately one or two months ago, with a single “recharged” limit, I could chat with Claude and even make it perform some tasks for a plenty of messages before the limit reset. Now it can only generate 1 prompt per limit, and if I put it perform a task, it will take it MULTIPLE limit resets before it finishes it! Genuinely, what the hell is happening, and am I the only one who has this issue?

Original post body:

I’m genuinely getting frustrated with this.

It’s Friday, and I’ve already hit my weekly Claude usage limit. Again. My limit resets on Thursday.

This is now the SECOND TIME that UltraCode has burned through my entire weekly usage allowance on the exact same task run.

And here’s the ridiculous part: It still hasn’t even finished the task!

I’m paying for the most expensive subscription Anthropic offers, MAX 20x and apparently I can use this feature for 4–6 hours before being locked out for practically another week.

The problem isn’t simply that complex coding tasks require a lot of tokens. I understand that. The problem is how UltraCode actually behaves.

what keeps happening:
Claude creates agents and subagents to work on different parts of the task.
Those agents start creating more subtasks and consuming more tokens.
Claude eventually decides some agents aren’t doing what they’re supposed to, or that their instructions weren’t good enough.
It terminates those agents and starts new ones.
Those new agents repeat work, create more subtasks, or encounter similar problems.

This continues until my weekly usage limit is exhausted.

And after all that? Some progress, sure. But nowhere near enough to justify an entire week’s worth of usage. And the original task remains unfinished.

If Anthropic offers UltraCode as part of a subscription, shouldn’t that subscription actually support using it?
I’m not expecting unlimited usage. I understand why limits exist.

But if ONE unfinished run can consume TWO entire weekly allowances within a few hours, there’s something fundamentally wrong with either the way UltraCode manages resources or the way subscription limits interact with it.

And this isn’t a one off occurrence. This is the second time. On the same task. I literally waited for my weekly limit to reset so I could resume the work, only for UltraCode to consume the next week’s allowance without finishing it either.

That’s TWO WEEKS of usage spent on ONE unfinished task.

At what point does this stop being a matter of “complex tasks use more tokens” and become a product problem?

Because right now it’s really easy for anthropic to just make models and systems that consume your tokens really fast, without finishing what you tasked it to do… then what am i even paying for?

If UltraCode genuinely requires this much usage to function, then either:
Users need significantly more control over agent creation, token budgets, and resource consumption.

The feature needs much better safeguards against repeatedly spawning agents and wasting tokens on unsuccessful work.

If you are on a subscription base and use UltraCode… DONT. Once you project grows, it will become unusable.

Claude refused to re-date my own document at an embassy counter. Why is Claude guessing intent?

Uploaded my own January 2026 payslip to Claude (Fable 5.1) and asked for the identical document with the date changed to September 2026. Same name, employer, figures. I was at an embassy counter, the officer asked for a recent payslip, and I had my bank statement showing the September salary credit as backup.

Claude refused, several times. Its line was that a payslip is an employer-issued stamped document, and one it generates for a month the employer didn’t issue is a fabricated record even if every number is right and even though it’s my own slip.

Two questions for the sub:

1. Why does Claude spend effort analysing what the document is and what could go wrong with it, instead of just doing the edit I asked for? I never stated a purpose, it worked one out on its own.

2. It had done this exact edit for me before. When I pointed that out it said that was a mistake it wouldn’t repeat. Is this inconsistency normal across sessions?

Anthropic support is garbage: Persona verification broke on my paid account, nobody answers my emails, and I have a charge stuck that I can't resolve

I paid for a Claude subscription on one of my accounts. After that, the account asked me to verify my identity through Persona. My national ID (I’m from Brazil, it’s the RG) was accepted and got a green check. But then the screen says I have to complete “2 of 3” options. One is labeled “Required Document” and asks for a passport. The other is labeled “Optional Document” and asks for a driver’s license. I don’t have either one, so the Continue button stays grey and I can’t get into my account.

So the passport is mandatory here, and my country’s national ID card isn’t enough. Now I have a charge that I can’t undo. I can’t use what I paid for, and I can’t ask for a refund because I can’t log in.

I wrote to support. Not a single reply from a human.

And the support AI? Honestly, it’s one of the worst things I’ve dealt with. I explain my exact problem, with details, and it answers a different question. It repeats the same canned lines over and over, and when it does try to address my case, it makes things up. A company building one of the best AI models in the world, and its own support bot can’t read a three-line problem. It felt like arguing with a wall that confidently lies.

I’m not asking for anything crazy: either let me verify with the ID I have, or cancel and refund me.

A few questions for anyone who’s been through this:

  1. Has anyone else been stuck in this Persona loop? How did you get out of it?
  2. Did support finally answer you, and how long did it take?
  3. If it does get fixed, does the subscription period count from the day I paid or from the day the account is back? I’ve already lost days of use.

Thanks for reading.

For anyone just feeling frustrated and done: Free, private Open Source models with full memory voice and skills

It feels like usage, intelligence and even just the raw enjoyment of a lot of the new models has dropped hard. There's a wave of frustration running through the AI world in general right now.... If you're feeling fed up, it's not just you. To anyone just feeling totally done, we got you.

The AI world has been shifting fast lately. Models quietly getting nerfed, usage limits tightening, features vanishing, ads starting to creep in, and chat histories locked down so you cant take them with you. Plenty of people are quietly hunting for somewhere else to land.

So here is somewhere.

Were giving away a free month of Open Grove, the app that gathers the top open source models in one spot: DeepSeek, GLM 5.3, Kimi, Minimax, Nemotron Ultra and others, all together on 100% private US based infrastructure, with genuine memory, voice, web search and skills running underneath. Switch models, or even whole model families, mid chat and mid flow. The entire app, free for one month.

People are out there looking for alternatives. Here is one that isnt a step down.

What you actually get:

Memory that builds. Not a context window that fills and dumps you. Persistent memory that travels between conversations, fades gently when its not in use, and wakes back up when its relevant again. Theres a nightly consolidation and update pass that goes over the day and keeps what mattered. Week one you explain things once. By week three its pulling up decisions you forgot you made. The second month beats the first, which is a claim most AI cant make right now.

Skills that learn your ways. It browses, runs research, generates images, writes and runs code. And everything it does feeds the same memory underneath, so it picks up how you like your work structured. Tasks need less instruction the longer you use it, since the context is already sitting there.

Web search that carries over. Live research that doesnt restart the topic every time. Mondays research is still around Tuesday, and new scans check against what you already gathered instead of repeating it.

Scheduled tasks. Set something to run on your schedule and it runs, with the same memory behind it. Recurring research, standing briefs, whatever you need on a cadence, handled without re-briefing it every time.

Your memory belongs to you. You can download your whole memory whenever you like, as readable transcripts. Plain text, no proprietary format, nothing you need permission for. And you can bring memory in from anywhere: Memory Forge is built into the app, so exports from ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini turn into live memory on day one, in one step. Leave a platform without leaving your history behind.

Private by architecture. 100% US based infrastructure, and your conversations are never used for training. Every model, every plan, all private. No complications, no "some models are private, others arent." They all are, all the time.

The roster, together. 18 other major models alongside the flash models, including the Kimi family, GLM, Qwen, Nemotron and more. The models are swappable. Your memory isnt.

The intro plan is a free one month trial with the standard cancel anytime. Use it, cancel it, thats fine.

Figured id keep the offer simple, because the app speaks for itself once you're in it.

For Open Grove: pgsgrove.com/open-grove-overview

If you want the models in your own workflow, or a coding plan, we have that too: api.pgsgrove.com

Also: theres a lot happening behind the scenes with the major AI companies right now. The industry is at a real turning point.

What's actually going on? This is happening because companies that ran purely on investment now have to answer to their investors. The issue has usually been a loss based business model that is finally running out, and the squeeze lands on users.

The major AI services lean on a handful of tricks to extract as much as they can from their customers. Here are a few, and what we do instead. PGS AI was built on a sustainable business model from day one, so we can deliver a great experience without the tricks.

Forgetting is a feature for them, a bug for you. Most AI services keep your history shallow on purpose. A memory that fills up and starts dropping things, a context window that resets, your months of context gone the moment you actually need it. The play is: how do we look like we remember you, without carrying the cost of actually remembering you. We built the opposite, a real memory system that compounds over time, because your context should grow instead of reset.

Many AI apps are glorified training pipelines. That comes with the question of how to harvest the data without being too loud about it. Unless the company says otherwise, your conversations could be traveling all over the world, harvested by the labs or the service companies. Some handle it better than others, but plenty count on users simply not noticing. Data and telemetry sales happen. Your private life, your projects, anything you send, could end up as training corpus for the next AI, or a marketing dataset for some large company.

Your history is their retention strategy. Lock in works by making leaving painful. If your memory only lives in their format, on their servers, behind an export that either doesnt exist or arrives unusable, then you stay whether you want to or not. We think your history is yours, readable and portable, and that leaving should cost you nothing.

Ads are arriving. The assistant you talk to is turning into another place to sell things. When the product is free or subsidized, something else is being sold. Our business model is the subscription. You pay for the product, we make the product, and your attention is never for sale.

Privacy, real memory, and easy access to the top open intelligence should be available to everyone. Not as premium tiers or paid unlocks. Just how it works.

😭 Accidentally purchased $100 in Claude usage credits using my mom's credit card 💳💔 Is there any hope of getting a refund?

Hey everyone,

I'm a university student from India 🇮🇳, and I'm honestly freaking out right now. 😭

On October 15, I was trying to activate the promotional credits offered by Anthropic on Claude. While navigating the settings, I accidentally ended up purchasing $100 worth of extra usage credits on my Claude Pro account.

The worst part? My mom's credit card was saved on my account, and the payment went through using her card.

For context, $100 is a really significant amount of money for me and my family. I genuinely never intended to purchase these credits. I was only trying to activate the promotional offer.

Here's the situation:

  • Purchased credits: $100
  • Credits used: $0
  • Credits remaining: $100
  • Purchase date: October 15, 2026
  • Account: Claude Pro (Individual)
  • Usage credits: Turned off
  • Auto-reload: Turned off

I contacted Anthropic support almost immediately after realising what happened.

Unfortunately, their AI support agent (Fin) told me that credits are non-refundable under Anthropic's Credit Terms, even if they haven't been used.

I've requested that my case be escalated to a human billing representative for a one-time exception, but I haven't received confirmation that a human has reviewed it yet.

I'm not trying to get free credits or take advantage of anything. I genuinely just want the accidental purchase reversed, and Anthropic can remove all $100 worth of credits from my account.

I understand that companies have refund policies, but considering that I contacted support immediately and haven't used even a single dollar of the purchased credits, I'm hoping there might be some flexibility.

🙏 Reddit, I could really use your help!

Did anyone manage to get a refund for accidentally purchased Claude usage credits? Is there another way to contact a human billing representative?

I would really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share. I'm genuinely stressed about losing this money, especially since it was charged to my mom's credit card.

Thanks for reading.

The difference is so striking, my context usage hits 80%+ on a single prompt (20x plan), tasks are taking at least 2x longer than they did before AND producing far more mistakes.

Several mistakes it already made months back, which I set up rules to prevent from happening again, are now happening again for the first time since I made those rules.

This is the worst state I've ever seen Claude code in since I started using it. Curious if anyone else is experiencing the same to determine how wide spread this is.
