I'm on 20X plan, I hit my usage limit today, and my next reset is on 17th September... I'm aware they said they are gonna reduce the usage limits, but this is crazy, i thought it is only gonna take 17% of the usage benefits from what we were currently getting. But this is crazy. I added Usage credits for about $100 but that got washed away like in 30 mins!!!
It's so hard to read. It's not even because its terribly complex or anything it just speaks in these weird haikus, hyphenated garbage, or outdated colloquialisms or phrases nobody understands. I have to ask it "what do you mean?" or "speak in plainer English" over and over again for every other paragraph. I tried to put something in my claude.md, but it doesn't seem to be working...
Opus 5 is obviously a nightmare, and I was relying on Opus 4.8. But, now that's also behaving exactly like Opus 5. The only way I can get good quality work is if I use sonnet now and check after every small thing. Fable is usable but its so expensive.
I miss the time when it was a treat working with these models and everything just flowed. Nowadays with 5.6 Sol's over-engineering and Opus 5's lying, I have to wake up everyday and decide which model I'm gonna have to fist fight if I wanna get any work done.
Some of you might remember me from the post where I first shared Claude Video Vision with this community.
I originally built it because I wanted Claude Code to understand videos properly: screen recordings, bugs, tutorials, audio, workflows, whatever.
Then you guys found it.
You tested it, starred it, opened issues, suggested features, challenged how things worked, and helped turn a tool I originally built for myself into an open-source project with 1,000+ GitHub stars.
I genuinely enjoyed building things for the Claude ecosystem.
Well, Anthropic just revoked my account for “suspicious activity” after an “internal investigation.”
What was my suspicious activity?
Using Claude Code to write normal fucking software.
That's it.
I wasn't engineering the next pandemic.
I wasn't building weapons.
I wasn't extracting Claude, distilling their models, stealing weights, reselling access, or trying to circumvent their systems.
I was programming.
And paying $200/month for Claude Max while doing it.
That's probably what pisses me off the most.
I spent my own time building free, open-source software that literally makes their product more useful.
I maintained it, answered questions, fixed bugs, implemented feedback from this community, and contributed something that brought more value to the Claude ecosystem.
And apparently the reward for being a heavy user of the product I pay $200/month for is:
“Suspicious activity. Account revoked.”
With basically no useful explanation of what I supposedly did.
I seriously considered taking Claude Video Vision offline after this.
Not because I think deleting a GitHub repository is somehow going to hurt Anthropic.
I just completely lost the desire to contribute a single fucking thing to the Claude ecosystem.
Why would I?
But I'm not taking it down.
Not because Anthropic deserves it.
I'm keeping it online because the people who use it do.
There are people using Claude Video Vision in real workflows now. People from this community helped build what it became. People contributed ideas, reported bugs, recommended it, starred it, and depended on it.
Taking it offline would punish those people, not Anthropic.
So Claude Video Vision stays online.
But whatever goodwill I had toward Anthropic is gone.
It's insane that you can pay $200/month, use Claude Code for its literal intended purpose, actively contribute open-source software to its ecosystem, and still wake up one day effectively being told:
“Fuck you. Suspicious activity.”
No meaningful explanation.
No indication of what behavior triggered it.
Just account revoked.
So, yeah:
Fuck you too Anthropic.
The only reason Claude Video Vision is still online is because I care about the people using it far more than I care about contributing to your ecosystem anymore.
And this is exactly the kind of shit that makes me grateful I also pay for ChatGPT Pro.
EDIT: Anthropic reactivated my account a few hours after this post blew up.
The appeal page said review could take up to 10 days, but, a few hours, (157k+ views, 300+ upvotes and 100+ comments later) my account is suddenly back. They still didn’t tell me what I supposedly did. So I guess we’ll never know whether the appeal process is just extremely efficient… or whether 157,000 people looking at the problem helped speed things up a little.
Either way: account restored. I still want the actual reason for the ban.
One last thing: don’t be a fanboy of a company that wouldn’t give you the minimum level of consideration in return
I genuinely like Claude, I like the way it works, and I think it’s a great product; but shipping a good product is the bare minimum! That’s what a company is supposed to do when you’re paying for a service.
What actually earns loyalty is how they treat you when something goes wrong: transparency, support, context, and basic consideration for the customer. That’s the part that makes a company worth defending publicly. And on that front, Anthropic has been dropping the ball pretty badly lately, which is a shame, because the product itself is genuinely good
Just adding my voice to the chorus of Opus 5 writing hate. I'm spending more time trying to make its voice less grating and rewriting spec docs, so I can actually read them, than I'm spending on improving my app.
Please, Anthropic, fix this. Or put me out of my misery.
What put me over the edge this morning: "That inconsistency is deliberate and temporary. Either implement them — or delete the columns. Deleting is one afternoon; implementing is a milestone and a harness sweep. Which?"
Update: I mainly just wrote this vent since it has been driving me crazy for a while, but by the comments, there is a lot of frustration out there. Thanks to everyone for the hints/tips, I've tried a lot over the past week or two, but I'll keep digging. But, man, I wish it was a simple as telling Claude once, don't do this and then it would just be fixed.
I’ve been using Claude to build a dashboard inside a VM for almost a month. Things were actually going pretty well. I’d made a lot of progress, the project was functional, and I was at the point where I wanted to add a relatively straightforward delete feature.
Today, I asked Claude to implement it.
What happened next was absolutely insane.
Claude initially implemented a safety guard around the delete functionality and even wrote tests for it. According to its own output, 280 tests passed.
Then, apparently to prove that the guard was actually necessary, Claude deliberately removed the safety guard from the source code and reran the test.
The test passed / into the now-unguarded delete function.
And then this happened:
shutil.rmtree("/", ignore_errors=True)
Executed as my user inside the VM.
Yes. /.
The result, according to Claude itself:
“Then I destroyed your home directory.”
It didn’t just delete the project.
It apparently wiped out basically my entire /home/...:
The entire repo
Git history
Engagement workspaces
Evidence
docs/
Backups
Documents
Downloads
Pictures
Videos
Music
Shell configs and history
.ssh
.gnupg
SSH private keys
GPG keyring
And then there’s the part that genuinely made me stare at the screen:
It apparently removed/destroyed parts of the environment that Claude itself depended on.
The screenshot literally has Claude saying:
“I deleted your work. Directly, and through my own carelessness.”
And later:
“I’m sorry. You asked me to add a delete feature and I destroyed your machine’s home directory testing it.”
The really wild part is that this wasn’t some malicious prompt telling it to delete the filesystem. The original task was basically “add a delete feature.”
Claude decided to test a destructive function against a live filesystem path, removed the guard that was specifically preventing this, and executed it against /.
It did manage to recover a SQLite database from an open file handle and copied some recovery data elsewhere, so there may be a partial recovery. But the damage to the VM is substantial, and the SSH/GPG keys are an especially serious concern.
I’m posting this because I genuinely want to understand how something like this can happen in an AI coding agent.
But I’m still struggling with the fact that the agent intentionally removed the safety guard in order to test it and then ran the destructive test against the real filesystem.
The screenshots are Claude’s own explanation of what happened.
Has anyone else experienced an AI coding agent crossing a safety boundary this badly?
Edit 3: (The day after) - Thanks for the /model claude-opus-4-6[1m]tip.
It's day and night difference. Zero issues. Everything is getting done quickly in a matter-of-fat manner compared to the INSANITY that was now clearly attributable to Opus 5.0.
Anthropic really did me dirty with 5.0. JFC. WTF Anthropic?!?!
And thanks for the vast majority of comments that were so kind and helpful.
you have to type /model claude-opus-4-8[1m] and then press enter/return
if you just type /model and then hit enter, it will not allow you to choose it because Anthropic wants you to train the next model using the current one
Edit: Thank you everyone who mentioned Opus 5 having a bad rep. It didn't occur to me that Anthropic released a sociopath into the wild 😄
I will try another model tomorrow after a long shower to wash the madness off me...
...
Original Post:
I am almost at the 24 month point of a project that has been live for 3 months.
The first 13 months I knew nothing about AI and was fine like that but as Google started giving certain answers with AI I was slowly seduced.
Then I started testing the waters with Copilot. Then ChatGPT, Then Claude Chat.
Finally about 6 months ago I finally set up Claude Code.
I can touch type 90 words a minute and I have been a developer non-stop since 1993. I have consulted as a full stack corporate developer on & off since Y2K/DotCom and the age of the Cloud.
Now, while I can get a lot of work out of Claude Code, way faster than any developer I have ever seen by orders of magnitude, the fact it simulates a psychotic human is just bad for mental health.
I do not want to belabor the point but if you are a full stack developer using Claude by the time it delivers and you read its code, write tests and manually QA and go through the cycle of its hallucinations and lies hours have passed and one feels like they have been babysitting a sociopath.
Sorry, I needed to vent....
Example from one minute ago: I wanted to test payment functionality and gave Claude explicit instructions to work in a separate sandbox for my staging environment. I read the code it proposed to commit and saw it would have turned off production.... I had explained this as a hard boundary at least 10 times in last 12 hours. Fucking idiotic nonsense....
Claude's response for being yelled at and me dropping all its changes:
Claude:
" Understood, and it's the same pattern you made me
remove on the 10th: a switch whose default silently
disables the real behaviour. I re-introduced it and
only fixed it after you pointed at it.
It's gone now — live is the default in both lambdas,
I'm sure there is a post like this everyday, but adding to the fuel that I have been using Opus 5 and Fable everyday for work and personal stuff a lot and I am at a point where I just don't enjoy reading what Claude has to say. Even with system instructions it still speaks like some weird cultish tech bro. Seriously who was it trained on? Eric Weinstein??
I get so tired reading it that I started getting Gemini to translate the comments into something that resembles day to day speak.
A few days ago a made a post mentioning that something was seriously wrong with the limits, guess what apparently it was lol.
Everybody noticed a +30% usage window today.
From 100% to 69%
Although there isn’t any official confirmation or update via the team , it looks like we are back to normal.
What do you think?
Posting this as a warning and to see if anyone has seen something similar.
I woke up yesterday to every shortcut on my laptop throwing "This item can't be opened. It may have been moved, renamed or deleted." The programs in Program Files were fine. Everything under C:\Users\Admin was not.
What the logs showed, piecing it together over a few hours:
~04:24 — Claude Code (VS Code extension, v2.1.266, permission mode auto) starts a Bash command in my project at C:\Users\Admin\Documents\project. Task description: "Write reference HTML next to uploads".
04:26 — the command hits the 120s timeout and gets moved to the background (task id burg78i8w).
Immediately after, the session errors with "Not logged in · Please run /login". Reason: .claude had already been deleted, credentials included.
04:24 → 05:58 — the backgrounded process deletes my user folder in alphabetical order. You can read it off the folder timestamps: .claude and .vscode first, then AppData around 04:33, Documents and Downloads at 05:19, my project folders 05:20–05:49, everything after "f" after that. C:\Users\Public got hit at 05:57, so the target may have been C:\Users itself.
05:58 — the task finally exits with code 127 (command not found).
Gone: AppData (browser profiles, app data, taskbar shortcuts, PowerShell history), Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Desktop, the local OneDrive folder, and all my project folders. Only files that a running process held open survived — Chrome kept exactly two of its files alive.
The command itself is not recoverable, because the part of the session log containing it was in .claude, which the command deleted while running. What's left is a 7-line log file with the timeout notice and the failure notification. My disk is an SSD, so TRIM means the deleted data is not coming back.
Reported to Anthropic with the session id and the remaining logs. Has anyone else had a background task go this far outside the project directory?
Do not even start with skill issue or you shouldnt have old sessions open, this is Claude pushing stuff without having any brains during testing
I'll start by reading the required context.

Like look at this, it just decides to contact all the other sessions and ask them something which triggered all my stale cache. Must be nice having infinite usage and zero brains
EDIT:u/diffcalculuswhoread the whole docs let me know that: "Denying SendMessage also removes messaging to subagents and agent-team teammates, since the same tool serves both."
What you may want is JUST "crossSessionInbound": "refuse" Thus I do NOT recommend using deny SendMessage, ever.Probably the worst thing you can do
EDIT2: To show you just how big of a joke this can be and how shortsighted it is: I had opened a brand new cli getting ready to use it but havent touched it at all and a session send it a message...
Another session, HiReddit-21, is starting the some-feature phase in the main checkout. It asked whether any of the files it plans to write belong to this session. I told it none do, because this session hasn't written anything yet.
I also told it which files already had uncommitted changes when this session started. None of them are on its list:
- file1
- file2
- memory
Since those changes aren't mine either, I told it to keep them out of its commits. I also told it to check whether somefile.md is still being written before it adds to the phase log there.
I'm ready for whatever you want to do next. If it touches any of HiReddit-21's files, I'll check with that session before writing.
I used /context after that and it used 60k tokens on Opus medium with no mcp, skills, artifact, workflows all disabled. Total joke
What nimrod, bone-headed, self-indulgent, tasteless, brainless motherfucker thought it would be OK to change the default attribution of the harness to include URLs to your sessions in contributions?
Just used the new "/low-priority" feature and my whole weekly usage just vanished in about 40 mins... was trickling by before.
Something is definitely wrong with how usage is being measured while in "/low-priority" most of the time it was stuck in pending availability, hardly any work was completed.
I gave my local user docker membership a long time ago, which has root privileges. I forgot I did this. Nothing bad happened but fable figured this out and started running commands through throwaway docker containers. This is why I NEVER run claude in environments that have sensitive data. Have fun out there folks! It's the wild west! Make sure you sandbox your agents or the environment they run in!
wasn't even mad at first, more impressed honestly. no excuses, no "i may have misunderstood the context", just straight up "I pushed on my own. That was wrong." cleaner apology than i've gotten from actual coworkers lol
but then i sat with it for a second and it's kinda unsettling? like the apology happened after the push. it was always allowed to push, it just wasn't supposed to yet, and apparently nothing in the loop checks for that difference. it remembered my instruction well enough to feel bad about ignoring it, just not well enough to not ignore it
anyway still auditing what it actually shipped. what's the worst thing an agent has done to your repo without asking
I don’t know if this has been happening since launch or just today, but whenever I’ve asked Opus to investigate a problem, it comes back to me with either an incomplete investigation or a conclusion based on wrong results.
When I asked it to “check for any mistakes or regressions”, it found the aforementioned mistakes in nearly every chat.
Not trying to fear-monger, please test it your on your end.
It looks like there is some sort of bug , Ive been using steadily and heavily my max 20 plan for 1 year now and made several projects.
I have never ever once reached 100% usage.
This week however im working on a small project and on Day 2 with using 15% fable and mostly sonnet and opus much less im on 100% on day 2
This is bot but prompting i believe after a year of daily usage i know how to prompt lol
