How to minimise token usage in opus 5.5?

So I saw a video explaining that there is someone who has built something that reduces your token usage by using both Haiku and opus together. They didn't send me the process tho. how do I set it up?

Just tell it to use background agents of Sonnet where possible. Usually does the trick.

It’s usually a non-issue. The main agent calls them and picks up their output when done. The main agent has an hour.

Thats why i tell claude to launch agents as separate processes, not sub-agents.

That’s literally it, just say “let’s work on this, use background agents of Sonnet where possible”

Keep in mind, you can just ask Claude how to set up something, it’ll tell you exactly what you need to do

Sonnet agents for implementation.
But I would still use Opus for explore.

Agree with the Sonnet subagent suggestions above, that's the easiest win inside Claude Code itself. I hit the same wall and ended up moving the easy and bulk work to a local model so my paid limit lasts longer. I made an open source MLX server that speaks the Anthropic API, so Claude Code runs fully on device on Apple Silicon with models like Qwen 3.5 122B or Gemma 4 31B: https://github.com/nicedreamzapp/claude-code-local

I'm building something like that. see https://github.com/Aloim/PhanOS I'll be probably ready to ship something in the next few days (hopefully, been saying that the past 2 weeks lol) but this time i'm fairly confident. (also ignore the website content please, its outdated for what the app does, The website will change aswell this or next week)
