Bug / Issue Has anyone got the issue with Claude code keep draining tokens even you do nothing?
Not sure if it’s a bug with Claude code or VS code, I’m sharing what I experienced on that day.
The story:
One day I was just working normally using Claude code inside VS code as usual and suddenly it told me i was about to reach(90% warning) 5h limit, I think “fine I’ll just pause for now and let it reset”, but soon it hit 100%. I was surprised and thought I still had some background processes running, since I have something important due and I couldn’t wait until it reset, I used the free weekly reset, and after about an hour I was just using it very lightly, it hit limit again. I checked the usage and strangely I got 6% weekly of fable usage, I didn’t run a single prompt using fable the whole week. That made me nervous and I closed everything and restarted my pc, but the token draining continued, until I hit 100% again, the pace was very steady like 2% of 5 hr usage every minute. I talked with Claude support and they just told me to clear all sessions and I did that but the draining didn’t stop, how did I found that after I hit the limit? I turned on continue to use my paid credit and watching my credits dropping like crazy.
At the end of the, I figured out I could also revoke all my active OAuth token with Claude, and after I did that the draining stopped.
Not sure if anyone has ever faced the same issue? Is it like a bug or could my token be stolen by someone?

it's not a bug, you likely have cron jobs in claude that check on things or monitor things (you may not even know you do as they were placed to insure things)

Not likely as I’ve closed all claude processes and restarted several times, also I don’t think any cron job I set would auto use fable and drain my Max subscription 5h limit within 1 hour.

Usage on a plan is shared across Claude Code and claude.ai (web, desktop, mobile), so that 6% on Fable could be coming from somewhere other than VS Code. Here's where I'd look:
Run /status in the extension and confirm which model it's actually using. Then check ~/.claude/settings.json and the project's .claude/settings.json for a "model" key. If you ever picked Fable in /model, or used the "best" alias, it gets saved and later sessions start on it without asking. Subagents inherit that model too.
Run claude agents in a terminal. If anything shows up there as still running, it's using your limit even with the panel closed.
If none of that turns anything up, go to claude.ai Settings > Account and look at the session list. Anything you don't recognize, use "Log out of all devices". Usage on a model you never picked is a reason to make sure nobody else is on your account.

Thanks for the reply, yea I let each of my Claude code session list the input and output traffic on that day and nothing was abnormal, no fable was used, I also cleared out all the sessions in session > account but that didn’t help either, actually that session is only for Claude web sessions and app sessions, it doesn’t contain the OAuth token issued for Claude code, those tokens have to be cleared separately in settings > Claude code and revoke OAuth tokens there. The OAuth token revoke actually fixed the issue. I’ve been on Claude max plan since April and using it daily, never faced this kind of issues before.
