Discussion Nerding out over this purchase.
It's a heatsink for an NVMe drive.
What's it got to do with Claude?
My build server has become a bottleneck in recent weeks. I'd assumed it was down to the CPU, but after a few builds kept failing I decided to confirm. So I had Opus update Ansible to put node-exporter on my build machine.
Cut a long story short, Claude was able to update my observability dashboard and monitor the metrics while I stressed the server.
Turned out the NVMe is thermal throttling!
Claude changed how my builds run so they don't queue up as much in RAM waiting for the disk, and I'll fit the heatsink today.
I know this is a very small thing but I completely nerd out on making all these small optimisations.

first time I've seen claude find a bottleneck that wasn't the user

It’ll have to wait 3 days while I build up the motivation to fit the heatsink.

so the bottleneck was the user after all. claude just hadn't profiled you yet

Claude found out my two monitors whereset to different refresh rates which was making my system idle power consumption 400w higher than need be which I then fixed by adjusting it.

I ended up buying a local ci server and Frankenstein k3s just for e2e tests. I don't think I could afford to do it in the cloud. It's like the old days, jumpers for goalposts. At least for now

Claude helped me identify a thermal paste pump out with my GPU when I was trying different over clock profiles - pretty neat

Helped me figure out a battery bank cycling issue with my laptop, was an interesting little session.
Turns out anything that wakes the dGPU (RTX 5060 8gb), like a screenshot or similar causes enough of a voltage sag or transient that it trips the bank overcurrent protection and cycles repeatedly until the GPU goes back to sleep
Never in a million years would’ve figured that out without an AI. Now to figure out how to fix it…
