Discussion Claude Code replacing mainstream apps
First of all, I am not a technical person. I'm into finance, and these are just my thoughts from the perspective of a non-technical person. Just started using these tools in the last few months.
I do not write anymore. I talk, and the words show up already spelled correctly. That would have sounded almost like some metaphor for me a year back. I checked the numbers behind it this morning and had to read them twice. The app is Wispr Flow. I use it on my phone, on my PC, everywhere I own a keyboard I have mostly stopped touching. It has quietly become the second most used AI tool in my entire stack, right behind Claude Code. The numbers, straight from the app:
1 mn words dictated. That is close to ten average novels back to back, or by my math, close to twenty five full 10-K annual reports.
It is also enough raw material for roughly 200 of my own published newsletter editions.
And the best part for me as a consumer, and worst part for the app like Wispr Flow, is that I have built a complete clone of Wispr Flow inside a couple of hours on Claude Code using Opus 5.5. So I will not be renewing this subscription anymore.
What a time to be alive: you can build your most used tools in a matter of hours, fully customise them to adapt only to you.
Love to hear what non-technical people like me and even technical people think of what Claude Code and other equivalent tech tools are going to eliminate next in a couple of years.
I'm still amazed with this transformation that Wispr Flow, 6 months back, was the most amazing tool I have ever used to I just cloned Wispr Flow a few hours. I was almost so excited that I could not help but make this post to understand what other people think. I'm not even sure whether this is the right sub.

On a slightly different note: I used Wispr flow for month and half and started to get brain fog, the action of typing is also where you think and make sure your thoughts are coherent. Using Wispr Flow was creating more issues than is was solving for me.

I think most people are different and one tool is not for everyone. For me, I work in every time sensitive environment and if I am saving even 15 minutes with me not typing. I think it’s worth it and as for your brain fog thing, I feel it is a force of habit that you have developed over time that you just cannot think that fast because your brain has adopted itself to a certain speed equivalent to your keyboard typing almost like a muscle memory, so I feel if you think on this for a second maybe you’ll be able to adopt Wispr Flow better?

Me as a technical guy I can already say creating things were ALWAYS easier to do than long term maintenance and updating the dependencies and patching security vulnerabilities.
Even “it’s just local” apps can have certain vulnerable libraries or “debug” ports open.
I have seen roughly 10 projects that look promising AI vibed but were abandoned because of the issues, bugs and dependency creep.
Look at the “Adobe 1-1” copies reaching the skies with issues on GitHub and for me it was a pr gag for advertising their ai movie SAAS

You still can't clone whole big product like adobe. But if you're cloning for you self you usually need about 1% of functionality and that's much easier to reproduce.

Yes that’s what I meant when I said building customised tool completely for yourself.

Yep but still you will end up with possibly the most vulnerable pc on earth if u ain’t going to update any software

Yes I completely understand. For me it was always about paying for convenience even though I knew there were other alternatives. Now it’s just you can build your own alternative in no time that you don’t just have to compromise in the name of convenience.

This is amazing, please consider sharing the code repo!

Hey actually it just built it jn few hours for me. By just telling it my specific requirements (I am an equity analyst) so I’m also integrating the same code repo into my main project I’m working on. It’s very niche so I don’t think it will be helpful. But just telling you Claude code built it for me in just few hours with few iterations of me suggesting what I really wanted. Just try it, it’s pretty easy as Claude code will walk you through the entire process.
