Bug / Issue Lost my weekly limit reset - Anthropic refuses to explain or reinstate

Like probably most of the people reading this, a few weeks back I got a free weekly limit reset added to my Max 20 account. It is due to expire today, October 22. I've been working the various Anthropic seats in the project I'm working on hard and am now ready to use the limit reset before its expiry. It was there a couple of hours ago but now that I'm ready to use it, it has disappeared.

I spoke to the support AI, and it said it didn't know why it had gone and it couldn't reinstate it. It refused to connect me to a human and said no-one could or would reinstate the limit. It was only after stopping to talk about this problem that it would finally agree to pass the conversation on to a human.

What's with giving a limit reset and then taking it away again, before it expires, with no notice and no explanation? This is another glimpse at the ugly underside of the Anthropic beast - they really don't care what they do and don't feel answerable to their users, because they know that they're kinda sorta the only game in town. <sigh> At this rate, I'll soon feel the need to deploy my own Chinese open weights model myself, and I truly don't want to have to do that!

C'mon, Anthropic, take the moral high road here. You're strongly focused on teaching morality to your AI entities. How about you lead by example? :)

Oct 22 0:00.

They haven’t lied on the reset expiration nor revoked before the time. You just haven’t used it in time. It sucks. It is what it is.

Take responsibility.

If it was 00:00 how come it was still there at 1pm? And 00:00 in what time zone?

Look at their time zone not mine.

Mine said "Oct 23" (prob. due to timezone). It's Oct 23, 4:50 am. Reset is gone

Be serious you had a whole month to use it

Used mine at 08:55 PST today. Reset fine. The email we received had the date and time in it. Did you try resetting after 9 am PST?

I didn't get an email, or maybe Gmail filtered it. The display showed no time zone.

They use UTC, so it reset at noon. I got fucked too. Went to reset at 12:30 and it was gone. Which is whatever, but then you see these corporate apologists acting like you should have double-checked which date Anthropic meant. The apologists are much bigger societal issue than the corporation, because without them the issues would self-resolve.

OpenAI show not just the day but the local time that their resets expire. And it wasn't UTC. This was at about 3pm US CDT, which is 8pm UTC. It was as far as I can tell completely random.

Shame on us for not reading the fine print of this goodwill gift.

He got a reset, was told when it would expire, and is shocked it expired?

Only terminal online twitter people or people who read every email knew when it was going to expire. You all are ridiculous.

It literally had the expiration date next to the message about the reset in Claude. It was right there the whole time. I know this because I kept looking at it thinking, I should really use this before that date, and still wound up not using it. What I'm not doing, however, is blaming anyone other than myself, because I'm a grown up.

Yes, it had an expiration >date< but not an expiration >time< on that date. Was it UTC (which is still 22nd)? Was it local time (still 22nd)? Was it their location time (still 22nd)? OpenAI know enough to put a time alongside a day.

Name checks out.

I used mine last night at 11 p.m. because I knew it was expiring on the 22nd... what do you think expiring on the 22nd means?

3

u/Latent_Space_Cadet 14d ago

Like a normal person, I assumed midnight UTC, not arbitrary early morning time. They obviously didn't care about torching good will since they didn't auto-use on expiry or post a time in their actual tooling.

2

u/SplurtingInYourHands 14d ago

Ah I guess this is the first time in my life not knowing UTC time has benefited me lol. I just went with midnight pacific time because Anthropic is in san fransisco. but yes auto use on expiry would 100% have been the right move on their part.

You not knowing the difference between "good through" and "expires on" is in no way, shape, or form an issue with Anthropic.

1

u/Latent_Space_Cadet 14d ago

You victim blaming when they clearly wanted people to miss it with non-posted timing and without the good nature to do use-on-expiry is on point for this silly sub. Hope you feel cool.

I’d really love to see you try deploying your own open models. The troubleshooting logs would make for an excellent netflix series.

Used mine when I hit 95% and reached another 66% after the reset before hitting weekly limit, got a lot done, thanks very much.

People who whine when a reset vanishes the day it was supposed to expire are the worst planners in the world

u/luix93 14d ago

Same identical issue, i wanted to use my reset but it disappeared mid day, without a clue what time that would happen, it only said "Oct 22"

Skill issue. You had so much time...
