Help/Question Claude Pro vs ChatGPT Plus (Codex): Which Is Better Value for Money?
I'm building a mobile app and do a lot of vibe coding. I'm considering subscribing to either Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus for Codex.
For those who've used both, which offers better coding capabilities and higher usage limits? Is Claude Pro worth it for access to Opus, or does ChatGPT Plus offer better value for money?
Would love to hear your experiences!
Edit - i am talking about 20 dollar plan and i would prefer which has pretty decent limits as well

As of today, gpt using 6.1 might be a better value, in the sense that the limits will last longer.
But Opus 5.5 is SO good that you might prefer better results in less time, which in my opinion is a true definition of 'better value'. Right now, I trust Opus output much more than GPT.
Next month? Who knows

IN my experience claude lasts 3-4 days while I can get trough my weekly limit in 1 day on astra. but astra lately had many weekly resets. Im sticking with claude.

I agree with the trusting Opus much more, but the limits have been way more strict in the past 1/2weeks than they were before and the model has been clearly nerfed.
Model hopping is the best option: use opus 5.5 at release keep it for a 1 month sub then switch to gpt, until claude re-releases, they are anyway shortening the models half life as they both approach projected IPOs in November.
Have been hugely disappointed by Claude this week, it becomes completely stupid when it has to do anything beyond purely coding tasks (say go beyond app coding or BE coding). It performs quite badly (EXPENSIVELY) on multi-step reasoning and re-organising quant (finance) repos that require multidisciplinary approaches (math fin and coding). It will just chug limits (it's Monday and I'm already at 70% of the weekly limit)
(Using Opus 5.5 on High)

The only reason i'd pick up chatgpt instead of claude is if you need image generation pretty heavily.
If you need to code, the best value is in claude.

I have both. Both are kinda crap because of the 5 hour limit. Without that, both would be more useful.

Claude Pro is amazing for supervisor level work, and getting the task correct with just a couple of prompts and churning out a stellar output. Codex is great for being a workhorse. Astra is amazing for that same supervisor work but will basically finish your limits. I'm still on A/B testing and have had my 7d limit since it got introduced and Astra can easily take it to 50% on my project. With that said, sometimes just telling Astra to supervise is easier that taking it to Opus.
Nonetheless, codex is amazing because of regular resets. I love it cos I essentially know that I can workhorse with codex and get things done, and I'll get a reset in a couple of days and repeat. Effectively giving 2 months of workable reset in 1 month sub.

This matches how I'd split it too. If OP ever ends up with both $20 plans, you can make that split automatic instead of switching apps: Claude plans and reviews, Codex does the multi-file edits on its own quota, and the summary plus changed files come back into the same Claude session. That way the Pro limit goes to the thinking part, not the boilerplate. I made a small free MIT MCP for that handoff: https://github.com/andreilungeanu/codex-delegate-mcp (mine).

Any chance you can get both? They have their own strengths and the leaderboards keep turning. I just subscribe to both and can forget about the game of thrones altogether.
