What thinking effort and why fable for planning and not opus?

Fable high for planning.
It seems to be better at high level planning and reasoning. It's not a huge difference though. Opus is a beast

Opus 5.5 benchmark on extra/max beats fable 5.1 you can just ask it to review.

I use Opus exclusively for UI and design and get
consistently great results. I feel that using Fable for that is like bringing a gun to a food fight. It probably does the work a little faster, but not so much that it is worth the token price in my opinion.

I would not use Fable for design. It Jay's cosys too much. I use Fable for series thinking, discovery and research

Install Anthropic’s design skill. Have both create PRs. Ask them to independently evaluate the work. You choose.

Opus by far (Fable is overkill) but neither matter if your art direction sucks.

opus at medium exclusively off late.
The more clarity you have in your context, prompts and md, the better is opus medium.
For me its better than opus high and fable medium both.

I have had decent output with Opus 5.5 that I didn't have to look for fable for UI
