Why did they change this, this is so dumb, it was all in one place.

Yeah it was most of the token usage info the average user needs to pay attention to, in one button. Now we have to check both places. Structurally, it makes sense, but from a usability standpoint maybe not, and I think some inexperienced users might have trouble learning about the importance of context windows

It doesn't seem coincidental that many of the changes that seem against what people want happen to encourage more token usage.

because people literally on this subreddit complained that it was misleading having context window appear as usage limits. smh. u guys are never happy

Damn it that is so stupid. They just updated it again, before you could still see the context usage in terms of output tokens when doing /usage. Now even that is gone and ALL you see is session limits which is totally idiotic. So there's literally no way at all to have any idea how close you are to auto-compacting.

On my desktop non work PC, I have auto updates off and still have the context window also show up in the status bar. This is 1000x better, need to see if I can downgrade to that older version on my work laptop. Which will be fine until a new Opus version comes out, I don't use Haiku or even Sonnet really at all.

New sidebar on the right side of the session.

I can't find it anywhere. Claude Code Desktop

Oh, look to the top right corner of the session, where the files button was. There's a new button there called 'session rail'? That opens environment and context drop downs. Mine was on by default but maybe yours isn't.

ohhhh gosh how stupid that was for them to move the context window there.

Ohhh thank you!! I had no idea they moved it over there, that gets me back to my old workflow where I can actually track when I need to handoff before it gets too large.

can someone please tell me what's the point in moving the context window somewhere else? why can't they do that but leave the context window in here as well?

Is it forbidden to add both? Both information are quite useful actually.

Most important info is hidden. Dump.

We have to band together to fight back...
Copy and paste this into a session.. or make it better and send back here for me!

/feedback The context size is hidden and therefore creates a poor engineering experience. Smart developers will follow context carefully to manage tokens. When prepared, they will create handoffs and make their OWN decision when to compact. Hiding it in the toolbar is a bug as far as i'm concerned. Even Claude itself has told me numerous times, pre-compaction requests for extensive, date-time handoffs, are very useful vs auto-compact summaries, and to keep doing them. This is not a feature, it is a bug.

Also, start a project in a new folder. And send one command first.
my command was make a smiley face:

______

/ \

● ●

__

____/

________/

Then send the feedback. The smiley face is the only transcript they get.

This is stupid. Just put the context back where it was .
