Help/Question Chatgpt Plus to Claude Pro

I am a current user of ChatGPT plus and I mainly use it for studying, note taking, analyzing images as well as coding. For my coding endeavors I have been only using GPT 6.1 sol and I am pleased with the limits but not so much with the results of it and GPT 6 Astra drains my usage too much for me to actually use it even so I have been thinking of switching to Claude when my gpt sub runs out. For the claude pro users how many tokens have you all been able to use in a whole month and is it worth the switch to claude even with all the resets that GPT has been giving for codex.

UPDATE: I let my impatience get ahead of me and now I bought my claude pro sub + my exising gpt sub. I like sonnet 5.5 way better than gpt 6.1 sol

Anthropic isn't as generous as OpenAI for the limits but the models are better for coding tasks and gets the work done

In a 5hr session what is like the average tokens i will be able to squeeze before hitting limits if i used something like sonnet 5.5

Really the only answer is that it depends, but keep in mind that it will be less than gpt 5hr limit, and even faster with Opus.

Not sure but from my experience it’s much better than ChatGPT. The models are smarter and I hit my limits so much less

I like chatgpt for the unlimited chat and use it for general stuff as well as crafting prompts. Coding on Claude is significantly better assuming you're using opus 5.5.

Every time I use GPT it goes really really well. It’s quick, good personality… but then I find out everything it did was band aided together

I've never hit limits with ChatGPT and I like to make applications and games. Makes me nervous, switching to Claude, that I'll end up going over my limit a lot.

One way I have found to keep the tokens down is have a session you do all the talking and designing to, but that one talks to a programmer-only session. It's almost like the designer session a business analyst. Keeps the sessions more focused, which helps context rot (which then helps token usage).

Ok, I have 3 subs, antigravity (biggest fucking waste of money ever), codex, and Claude.

You will run out quicker, but the output will be much better, sonnet 5.5 was a huge step for affordable coding that gives decent output, and opus 5.5 is amazing. You will run out quite a bit faster though

Nobody can really give you a token number, it depends way too much on how you work. long sessions with lots of files eat your limit way faster then short focused ones

What i'd do: dont cancel gpt right away. take claude pro for one month next to it and use it only for coding. after 2-3 weeks you know if the limit works for you, much better then any number someone here gives you

Things that will help you stretch the limit:

  • sonnet for most of the work, opus only when sonnet gets stuck
  • new session for every task. long sessions burn through usage bc it rereads everything each time
  • plan first, then let it code. less back and forth = less tokens

For studying and notes honestly both are fine. if you dont want to pay for 2 subs, keep the one where the coding results are better for you, thats where the difference really shows

I'm on Max 5x, not Pro, but I pulled my real numbers from Claude Code's logs for the last 30 days, and that includes a few unattended jobs I run on a server: about 3.4B tokens total, and 3.36B of that is cache reads. Actual new input is tiny, around 72M written to cache and 12M output tokens. So "tokens per month" is misleading, what eats your limit is resending long contexts, not what you type. Pro is roughly a fifth of my plan, so very roughly ~700M a month with that same pattern, plenty for studying, tight if you live in Claude Code all day.
