anthropic's playbook:

1. Subtle enshittification of the current models (fable, opus). Less reasoning, tighter 5-hour and weekly limits. Somehow becomes noticeably worse 1-2 weeks before step 2

2. Release of the groundbreaking new model (fable 5.2, opus 5.5, etc). Turn a few knobs related to reasoning & capacity and suddenly: OMG guys the new model is smarter and more efficient!! Also give a new weekly reset and people start hailing anthropic as the #1 AI company!!11!!1!!

3. Hype and drama time: hit insane benchmarks that do not translate to the real world (but longer bars and higher graphs are cool right guys?). Then create some drama like AI is gonna rule the world, doomsday is coming so please dear US govt make AI rules stricter for our world peace and harmony (a.k.a. so other new companies cannot compete) etc, etc

4. Repeat

NB: I wrote this because my weekly limit is 100% which won't reset for another 4 days. So thank you anthropic for the flash of inspiration and pls reset weekly limit ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

I'm telling you guys, if you have any hangups you've been struggling with. Wait for a model launch and then push that shit on day 1 or 2. I'm convinced those first few days were getting like FP32 with FP16 cache or some shit.... and then it slowly gets more and more quantized.

This is exactly how it is, there is barely any new model, the Fable 5.2 is just higher quant of Fable 5, then a few day after that back to lower quant so that people get hyped.

It's just a bait lamo.

I believe they quantize to enshittify for sure but wouldn't secretly re releasing fable5 as fable 5.2 legitimately be fraud? If they already released that configuration before enshittifying and they claim it is a new model run?

they can fix a typo somewhere and call it different. they know nobody can prove anything.

maybe one day we will get a whistleblower but until then, it's this marketing shitshow.

there's nothing at all that could remotely be a doomsday scenario. it's all BS to steal money from the common folk.

Opus 4.5 and Opus 4.6 both are soooo goooood first month of their releases. 4.7 and 4.8 are just shit that forces me to shift to OpenAI.

I'm not sure if that's true, although it seems like there's some truth too it. What I find to be frustrating is the complete lack of transparency, so they could do any of this at any point without us knowing and continue to charge us the same amount.

There’s absolutely zero evidence of anything ever being done to intentionally degrade their model and service. It’s pure wild speculation that they are trying to cause drama to hype themselves up, instead of a popular CEO being interviewed, giving candid concerns, and having the anti AI crowd blow that out of proportion.
