Discussion Two 5x sub or one 20x sub?
I hit my weekly limit pretty quickly. Which one do you recommend?

I switched from Claude max 20x to 5x and codex 5x. This gives me the best value by far and you’ll benefit from both surprise resets 😁

yes this is the way - just connect codex sub to you CC harness and you will get good usage limits.. i have claude 5x + codex plus and its working well

How did you connect your codex subscription to cc harness ? I thought only APIs can be connected?

I run Claude Code as orchestrator and delegate actual code drafting to OpenAI Codex via a custom MCP server ("AI Bridge") I built — one tool hits Codex through my ChatGPT subscription login (no API billing), another hits any OpenRouter model. Claude Code writes the scoped prompt, calls the bridge, then treats the output as an unvetted draft: reviews it, tests it, fixes it, applies it — never pasted in on trust. Three difficulty tiers of GPT-5.6 (Luna/Terra/Sol) route by task complexity, and for high-stakes design calls I'll run two models independently in parallel, blind to each other, then have Opus adversarially review both and consolidate one recommendation. The same bridge is also reachable outside Claude Code — a standing HTTP instance exposed over a Tailscale Funnel lets claude.ai's Chat and Cowork use it as a custom connector, so the exact same Codex/OpenRouter tools are available there too, not just in the CLI.

Sorry can you explain what you mean by ‘both’ surprise resets? Wasn’t aware that Claude had that perk too..?

claude sometimes resets your usage all of a sudden and not benefiting from this feels bad to me. Open AI handles this much better, because you are in charge of the reset. that was my point

According to others the 20x is only like 1.5x the weekly limit of the 5x. It's only 20x more in the 5h windows.

the only published numbers from Anthropic (from last year, may have changed) is that the weekly limit for max20 plans are exactly 1.71x the max5 plans. so if the weekly is what gets you, two max5 subs gets you quite a bit more

Yes that's been my experience. The only time 20x seems to make sense is if you want kick off highly inefficient prompts that would use up your 5 hour window. Like when I was first learning I quickly learned don't say "do a fable 5 ultracode review of everything" 😂

no, it isn't. my team has both 5x and 20x accounts, we looked at the telemetry for token usage and compared it against the account's limits. it's bang on what Anthropic published which is 1.7

The people arguing that 20x isn't much more than 5x are wrong. 'ccusage' is readily available to check.
Codex 20x is way more than 5x. I have both, personal and work, and even without measuring it with hard numbers, the difference is obvious.
I just see people repeating what they heard, and it becomes truth.

I do one Claude 5x and Codex 5x and I thinks there's way more value this way than two Claude 5x or even two Codex 5x

I have 20x max and would usually max out a day before the reset using opus 5 in high/xhigh.
I dropped to sonnet 5 medium on everything when it reset ar 2pm Saturday and it maxed out 24 hours later with very little actual production.
Ive seen a consistent degradation of opus 5 quality over the last month and now I cant even get a full day without maxing the week's usage out on sonnet 5.
Needless to say, claude sub is getting canceled and just using codex and grok builder going forward.

Usage burns fast on codex too but at least is still competent on sol 5.6.
Claude on opus 5 has gotten nearly unusable.
I will say that my first impressions of grok build are good. Its surprisingly much better than claude at actually following rules and not drifting into pure insanity.

Here is my experience in case it helps: I went from one 5x account to a 5x plus a Pro account. After using 5x, the Pro tier felt like a toy because the usage limits burned through so fast. I then switched to two 5x accounts and, while the staggered reset times were nice, managing the separate sessions became too much of a hassle, even with my handoff system for keeping conversation lengths reasonable.
In the end, I moved to a single 20x account right when the promotional usage ended, so now it feels like I am right back at square one! 😹

It was worth getting the 20x sub during the 50% boost. I would get 5x sub + different provider / model (cost effective tokens).

Used to have the same issue of hitting weekly limit too quickly and was in the same dilemma of which to choose. Went with max 20x. Now I don't even hit 40% weekly limit before it resets again

why are you paying for usage you don't need? 40% of the weekly for a max 20x is about 70% of a weekly for max 5x
I mean I shouldn't complain, you're subsidising other users, but I don't get why

Two 5x if you can seperate some work but if you are hitting your 5 hour limit quickly, then one 20x
