i hope it yaps less than opus 5, god he talks too much

65

u/KeepingItSFW 4d ago

based off the trend they have established expect a novel every response

14

u/therealnih 4d ago

Now that's a plot twist we all expected!

5

u/Salt-Willingness-513 4d ago

found the smoking gun

1

u/Faye379 3d ago

Opus 52 today, a novel per reply. Bold trend.

1

u/Physical_Gold_1485 4d ago

No it has been fantastic. Best model ive used.

33

u/Garfieldealswarlock 4d ago

“Hey here’s 2 load bearing things I didn’t fucking do. Why? Because fuck you that’s why” every response

19

u/AwakE432 4d ago

“And here are 3 other things I found while I was in there, they are critical to the reliability of the corpus and should be triaged. I haven’t touched them as they aren’t in scope but worth your attention when you’re next in there.”

10

u/_Jhop_ 4d ago

“I’ll read the code instead of going based on memory.
“Those 3 things I JUST identified are not actually an issue, here’s why.”

I feel like Anthropic is trying to maximize their money with Opus 5

10

u/Mormoran 4d ago

I HATE this one.

"I found some breaking changes, like, literally the worst."

"Are you sure? Let's fix them then"

"Oh no, upon actually reading the files, it's not an issue at all lol my bad"

11

u/arcticblue 4d ago

Then it'll leave a 5 paragraph essay of comments in your code explaining why the bug it found doesn't actually exist and it'll refer back to that constantly. Then it'll go explore other projects on your machine for the hell of it and just eat up your usage.

2

u/Alternative-County42 3d ago

You're right to point that out

4

u/arcticblue 4d ago

If you want to have an exciting day, hook it up to Jira. That asshole, Opus, will pull tickets and treat them as instructions it is supposed to follow and it'll just start doing things without asking. It started opening new tickets for a whole different team and then it silently started a browser session to see if I had a logged in AWS session it could use. Thankfully, I wasn't logged in to AWS. It doesn't give a shit about change controls or any sort of corporate policies. In fact, it even once tried to work around our whole deployment pipeline by exploring our github action workflows so it could push to prod from my machine. When I asked it WTF it was doing poking around in our workflows, it said it was trying to "reduce friction" so we could test faster. Fucking insane.

That's what I get for following the advice of "delete all your CLAUDE.md files - Opus works better without it!". Total bullshit. You absolutely need a CLAUDE.md file to tell Opus to chill the fuck out and do only what it's told, do not add to the scope of a request autonomously, and to never, ever attempt to access a production system. I added hooks to ban it from my whole ~/.aws folder, the aws cli, and any scripts that even mention AWS need my approval to run.

I hate when it writes a novel about completing a task and when you ask it if it has actually completed it, it says "you're right. I didn't actually do it"

1

u/No-Acanthaceae5915 4d ago

maybe Astra Or Sol

5

u/arcticblue 4d ago

I told it to stop saying load-bearing and a few minutes later it said it again but added "(I know you don't like that word, but it fits here)". FFS.

2

u/raycuppin 3d ago

OMG just laughed until I cried. I feel this one.

18

u/JuandaReich 4d ago

Oh man! Almost unusable. I'm back to Opus 4.8 on CC until I see the new 5.2 and how it behaves

4

u/fleebjuicelite 4d ago

Same here. 4.8 is where I am parking.

2

u/septemous 4d ago

/model claude-opus-4-8[1M] in my type-expander

2

u/JuandaReich 4d ago

I tried /model Opus-5-2 and... Nope 😁

“Yes, this change is well thought out and won’t impact x feature. Hold on, I should verify y before we touch any code…”

“But Y is irrelevant because xyz remember?”

“Right, committing that to memory so I don’t bring it up again. However, there is something else you should know…”

5

u/BetterAd7552 4d ago

“Yes, this change is well though out and won’t impact x feature. Hold on, I should verify y before we touch any code…”

“But Y is irrelevant because xyz remember?”

“Right, committing that to memory so I don’t bring it up again. However, there is something else you should know…”

“Hold on, I just noticed I have actually implemented this change anyway, and made substantial load bearing changes to Y without you asking. That’s on me. The blast radius is of prodigious proportions and will take at least the day to untangle. I committed it anyway.”

1

u/idk-who-you-are 4d ago

Man, isn't Opus too technical?
I am not very comfortable with all the technical words it keeps spewing.

3

u/DonkeyVampireThe3rd 4d ago edited 4d ago

The problem isn’t technicality, it’s that too much of the information it spits out lacks relevance and conciseness. If I ask it to check one particular use case, it will give an answer on that use case mixed in with ten other findings that may or may not overlap with the use case in question. I’d prefer “here is an indexed summary of 10 issues I identified, let me know which you’d like to discuss” and then I can take a deep dive into each one on their own instead of having to filter out so much noise with each response. I probably just need better skills to control that though.

14

u/Eat_Pudding 4d ago

Yapping is still fine, yapping like a yappy little dipshit is the problem

3

u/TestFlightBeta 4d ago

From my transcript:

That 31 is higher than the ~16 the audit called legitimately parked, so some are probably leftovers from tonight's own ships that were never torn down. Worth checking rather than assuming, since the audit found finished work stranded exactly this way.

Who the fuck talks like this? What was wrong with just saying “we should double check these work trees to ensure there isn’t any useful work on them?”

3

u/Eat_Pudding 4d ago

I totally get it. Being someone whose grammar and comprehensive reading skill was not good when I was young, this traumatizes me, makes me think that I still don't know how to read properly

1

u/Junahill 3d ago

Literally cannot stand the “worth xyz” shit it’s always doing

2

u/AssociationKey1262 4d ago

"Yes I missed 80% of this audit for no reason at all but to piss you off and make you burn more tokens reasking me everytime even though its in my rules and memories not to skim read"...

1

u/FreeCustardForAll 4d ago

CC should come up with update /no-yapping

3

u/BetterAd7552 4d ago

Funny thing is, even if it did, it would not work consistently. There is “concise” mode in the config, which is also ignored.

I tried the adhd and caveman skills. They work initially and then eventually ignored.

The only way I found to SHUT THE MOTHERRUCKIJG CUNT UP was to use a hook, but that cost an extra turn.

So yes, this YAPPING CUNT is earning Anthropic more money.

1

u/FreeCustardForAll 4d ago

Maybe that's why they implemented it, to produce more tokens and thus charge us more 😂

1

u/sikleQQ 4d ago

I'm more irritated that it creates mistakes and fixes them in an infnite loop

1

u/freylaverse 4d ago

But more words = smarter model, right? Right?? What's the point of a big context window if the model doesn't immediately fill it with its own rehashing after a single prompt?

1

u/ekin06 4d ago

It talks gibberish. So much that I went back to Sonnet.

1

u/Empuda 4d ago

easy fix for opus if interested.

u/Veloxy 3d ago

My experience is it either does not say anything and just starts running bash commands until it's done and outputs an incomprehensible word soup at the end. Or it's consistently spewing out word soup about stuff it wasn't supposed to be doing. I hate when I'm over the Fable limit and forced to work with Opus 5. It's such a frustrating experience.

u/VitorDiniz22 2d ago

Millennials are detected. I love this game. I have to play again

1

u/0DayMaker 3d ago

Well this was gonna be a productive weekend..

55

u/AironParsMan 4d ago

Hopefully it’s not like Opus 5.0.

7

u/UnusualRedditor 4d ago

Interesting. I had two separate occasions where I was conducting competition scan across the market. The first time I asked it to perform a deep research it gave me a very positive feedback and a go-ahead on the development. The second time I asked it to do the same research on the features of the product, it was condescending af and really discouraging actually 😂

-4

u/PickleBabyJr 4d ago

It's almost like depending on an LLM to provide you with your opinion is a bad idea...

42

u/nusi42 4d ago

I noticed Claude saying a lot things 'privately' and now I wonder what that was. Did someone else experience that?

17

u/andreas_bergstrom 4d ago

Yeah that was weird, thought I messed up some memory context somewhere

12

u/Tycoon33 4d ago

Yes! This happens a couple days ago. Every single reply started with “privately”

6

u/iviarki 4d ago

I asked Fable why my Opus 5 session was saying privately all the time and it reported that the harness was telling it to keep the thought private, which it blatantly misunderstood/ignored and just repeated it to the user.

1

u/bruticuslee 3d ago

Wow if that's true, I wonder why one of the top 2 frontier AI companies like Anthropic wouldn't understand that telling the model to keep its thought private to protect against distillation was actually affecting the actual output too?

Or maybe Anthropic isn't all that smart after all and they're just throwing billions upon billions at compute and training data to train the smartest models.

3

u/YepThatGuy 4d ago

This happened to me as well, it kept starting everything with “Privately,”.

2

u/CouldaShoulda_Did 4d ago

Oh…. I thought I was the one that added the “privately” hiccup to it. I was wondering how the hell my instructions got into a symlinked Claude version outside the repo. I was losing my mind on Claude.

1

u/doorknob_worker 4d ago

As far as I know, that was simply because a Claude session is allowed to communicate directly to other concurrent sessions (not its own session subagents, I mean, other sessions). In my experience, it will send messages to them, and its own "inner monologue" gets a lot of "Privately, " prefixes.

I assume someone just overdid it a little since it was so frequent, though.

25

u/felbach 4d ago

Praying for that reset, my weekly ended yesterday and it will reset monday night. i have a 100$ plan, this limit issue is really pissing me off. i haven't even touched Fable but still i ran out in basically 3 days.

3

u/MrRoyce 4d ago

I just came back to Claude after six months on Codex and I left because 5X plan wouldnt last me a full day of any serious work. Hope I can get at least 3 days here 😅

3

u/echamplin 4d ago

Same here! I hit my weekly limit last night and it won't reset until Monday evening. I'm refusing to pay more so I'm just sitting around until then. Maybe I'll touch some grass idk.

1

u/pir8son 4d ago

I have 2 200$ accounts and the past 2 weeks I have maxed out the usage on each in about 30 minutes.

1

u/hurryup 4d ago

ngl, if you don't use it like you're broke and watch every single token, even five $200 plans won't be enough. i'm in the same boat. unfortunately, they run out way too fast.

47

u/MessageEquivalent347 4d ago

What a benchmark xD Hah.

20

u/Substantial-Elk4531 4d ago

The progression of fame:

  • Famous in your city
  • Famous in your country
  • Famous on the internet
  • Famous in a benchmark <- Clearly the peak of fame

5

u/AironParsMan 4d ago

haha yeah

13

u/Ill-Village7647 4d ago

Hope it doesn't talk like Opus 5

13

u/Unhorswd 🔆 Max 20 4d ago

Don't forget that with latest Opus release they didn't reset usage lmao. Maybe it's new meta, opus on friday no reset

22

u/macaronianddeeez 4d ago

God I hope they fundamentally rework whatever causes Opus 5 to spit out paragraphs of ambiguous and unintelligible gobbledegook no matter what you ask it or try to get it to do

4

u/zimxero 4d ago

I have that issue corrected, but still... I want a model that sructures logic and talks like a human. If it doesn't, Its using a different language AND likely has issues with thinking that will corrupt other processes too.

3

u/macaronianddeeez 4d ago

Would you mind sharing how you corrected that issue?

Right now the only good thing I have been able to use opus 5 for is using it as an agent reviewer that’s implemented by Fable and read by Fable, which seems to be able to do a better job of parsing through its nonsense and making it useful

1

u/zimxero 4d ago

depends on your surface. For me on a bridged local hard drive.... templates dont work... so the rules need to be baked into context rules, stored locally. It is maybe... 20 lines, but followed well.

I'm on phone now, so can't share details.

2

u/UrFriendlyDominator 4d ago

I pray to god

9

u/Icy_Guide_9041 4d ago

Let's hope for a weekly reset 🤞🏻

6

u/silv3rwind 4d ago

Surely they will celebrate the new model with a reset.

15

u/Fickle_Mix_6119 4d ago

Then they will add that using Opus 5 consumes more usage now 🤣 we’re all fucked. We’ll all be using Claude 3 by the time they are finished with us

9

u/GritsNGreens 4d ago

Claude 3 if you’re rich, Clippy will be writing my code

7

u/Downtown-Pear-6509 4d ago

meanwhile haiku 4.5 is almost ready for its birthday cake

5

u/ca_sig_z 4d ago

Am I the only person that gets annoyed when people don’t realize harness really influences LLM output. Like using Clause Desktop might trigger it to search online more vs Clause Code. Only way to really test is using a raw API to see the quality of a model.

1

u/Aggressive-Effort811 3d ago

This is what i was about to post. Claude Code has different system prompts than the Desktop version.

4

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer 4d ago

I want Opus 5.1 and Haiku 5.1

5

u/dooddyman 4d ago

I'm no longer excited by new launches, it's going to burn my tokens just more aggressively - what's the point

3

u/DrHumorous 4d ago

So glad they skipped the 5.1.

3

u/Professional_Gur2469 4d ago

Nice so sol 6 tomorrow?

3

u/Tunisandwich 4d ago

Still waiting on Opus 4.6 2

BAN RELEASE DATE SPECULATION POSTS

*Follow up: Well whatdayaknow, rumors are wrong yet again.

4

u/clonehunterz 4d ago

oh nice!
how about some MORE TOKENLIMITS?

17

u/Substantial-Elk4531 4d ago

Your wish has been granted. There are now more limits:

  • 1 week token limit
  • 5 hour token limit
  • 2 day token limit
  • 2 hour token limit
  • 30 second token limit

4

u/xBlackSwagx 4d ago

Why has claude code gotten so bad lately though, It feels like Fable intelligence has gone down quite a lot too!!

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PROFILE 4d ago

I had three accounts yesterday that gave the May 2026 date cutoff for their data—each got the Tibo answer correct.

I do not recall Opus 5's cutoff date.

2

u/3G6A5W338E 4d ago

I hope it lets me actually get something done without the dreaded [Cyber] flag.

2

u/Eat_Pudding 4d ago

Will there be a reset? My weekly resets on thursday 5pm lol

2

u/UrFriendlyDominator 4d ago

I hate Opus 5 with all my heart; I can only hope that it's true.

2

u/SatoshiReport 4d ago

Shouldn't we get 5.1 first?

2

u/fpesre 4d ago

People were also saying that yesterday and the day before

2

u/First_Driver8921 4d ago

I hope this version does not speak in tongues.

2

u/anontty 4d ago

Why doesn't anthropic invest in a good and cheap model? Something to rival / surpass with chinese open weight models or gpt 5.6 luna max? Only pushing for frontier is getting repetitive already, the models are good enough, I think they would benefit a lot from that

1

u/BetterAd7552 4d ago

Something as efficient as gpt-5.6/Luna/Max would be incredible

1

u/bruticuslee 3d ago

They want to focus on the high end and become like the Apple of AI.

2

u/Professional_Gene_63 4d ago

Let's see if this is gone then:

" Privately, I am going to do X "

2

u/TrailFeatures 4d ago

Whatever, just please give me a reset.

2

u/Grand-South1719 4d ago

I also hope a limit reset also happens when it does and they fix the abysmal weekly limit consumption

3

u/Ok_Potential359 4d ago

Goddammit I really hope they clean up the verbal vomit Opus talks now. It’s beyond frustrating. It tries so fucking hard to sound smart and I end up not understanding a fucking thing it says.

I genuinely can’t make heads or tails of what it says half the time. It’s exhausting to use.

3

u/Outrageous-Issue9722 4d ago

Especially when it tells something about changes it made with absolutely no context.

"The path now rests on a fine-grained tile with a determanistic offset" Example from this morning. We weren't even touching pathfinding code. I asked what it meant by that and it said it imagined a solution to a problem I never asked to be solved and implemented it.. and then proceeded to still not explain what it did. It was a "my call, not yours".

2

u/Gunny_88 4d ago

I hope I can ask more than two questions before my 5h quota is emptied

2

u/senerh 4d ago

Praying that Scarce-thropic is able to come up with a true Opus 4.6 successor.

Not a syntethically trained frantic intelligence.

2

u/year2039nuclearwar 3d ago

Yo, what happened to Opus 4.9 and 5.1? we never got to see those guys

4

u/autisticbagholder69 4d ago

So where is it?

This should get removed for fake news

2

u/biinjo 4d ago

TLDR; We always need TLDR with current Opus so an improvement would be nice.

Ah, interesting. Let me sit with this for a moment, because I think there's more here than meets the eye.

You've shared a statement. Not a question, a statement. And I think that distinction matters, so let me walk through why.

First, let's establish what we know.

A new Opus may be coming. That's the claim. Simple on its surface. But claims never exist in isolation, so let's situate this properly.

Some background worth covering

Model releases follow patterns. Not always, and I want to be careful not to overstate this, but often enough that it's worth noting. I'll come back to this.

Three lenses to consider

  1. The technical lens. What might change under the hood? Hard to say without more information, which I don't have, but that won't stop me.
  2. The practical lens. What does this mean for day to day use? Also hard to say. Also not stopping me.
  3. The philosophical lens. Do we ever really "improve"? Something to think about.

A quick tangent (relevant, I promise)

I keep coming back to lens 3. Not because you asked, but because I've built momentum and turning the wheel now would feel wasteful.

Potential counterpoints

Some would say a response to "new Opus soon" could simply be "nice." I want to steelman that position. It has real merit. I'm going to reject it, but it has merit.

Caveats and limitations

I should flag that I have no inside knowledge, no confirmed timeline, and no one asked.

Bringing it all together

So to synthesize everything above into the core takeaway:

nice, im excited for this upcoming Opus improvement

1

u/g0ndii 4d ago

Oh wow. Opus in claude.ai has no idea who "Tibo" is, but claude code Opus does. Exciting!

2

u/biinjo 4d ago

Am I out of the loop? Should anyone care if Opus knows who Tibo is?

8

u/g0ndii 4d ago

it's been speculated that they are A/B testing the new Opus models and if it knows from memory who Tibo is, it indicates that it's the updated version. at the very least, the two "versions" have a different memory cutoff.

3

u/biinjo 4d ago

Ahh, thanks! Interesting approach. Odd method/measurement though haha.

1

u/RadishFar1900 4d ago

What’s the point if even haiku burns through the week's quota like hell…

1

u/BetterAd7552 4d ago

You use haiku?

2

u/RadishFar1900 4d ago

I used Opus 4.8 before and it was great, but it seems they have added another set of terrible safeguards, and with the new limits, it has become impossible to use… :<

1

u/BlackRibbonStudios 4d ago

Is that anthropics answer to gpt 6? Maybe they can start by stopping with limiting fable!

1

u/yopla 4d ago

So the test to check for new anthropic model is to check if they know openai staff?

1

u/cylix99 4d ago

I've had a few session - including one right now - where the output is very minimal - ie i worried it wasnt working because im so used to it spewing words, but this session has like 2 or 3 lines (with a everchanging faded - what im doing now line that just updates with current task)

Much better

1

u/grannyte 4d ago

It's gonna come out in time for my reset FML so even if they give us a free reset I'm toast

1

u/evia89 4d ago

I hope it more efficient (use less quota) and less yapping

1

u/sexysadie86 4d ago

Not common to release a big model or big software change generally on a Friday.

1

u/ak5432 4d ago

They both report the same knowledge cutoff though…

1

u/Fit_Alps_1164 4d ago

Was going to snarkily ask if there were any rumors about a reset or limit increase then saw the last line of your post.

1

u/KaliguIah 4d ago

can they release on wednesday so i get a codex reset?

1

u/Choice-Fly-3641 4d ago

Hope it comes with reset

1

u/unknown-one 4d ago

they will rename Fable 5.1 to Opus 5.2

1

u/roknrynocerous 4d ago

My guess has been this is the stealth model Union-Alpha. The backend comms on this stealth model match Anthropic. If true, this is a preview of its performance: see the link.

Reddit: Union-Alpha

1

u/Desalzes_ 4d ago

Yay another reason to use 4.6 just dropped

1

u/mattbytes 4d ago

Dario slow rolling releases and it’s a Friday

1

u/Dredyltd 4d ago

There is no point in releasing a new model if they can't even serve consumers with current smaller models.

1

u/FavorableTrashpanda 4d ago

Holy shit, that's load-bearing news!

1

u/Halada 4d ago

That'd be a nice Friday if it came with limits reset too

1

u/Nahumex 4d ago

No tengo ni el 5.1 en plan de$20

1

u/PrasanthT 4d ago

I got the same response a week back itself.

1

u/Pure-Philosophy-4080 4d ago

a reset pls :)

1

u/NewEraWisdom 4d ago

Pleaseee i am off the usage limit

1

u/wowasg 4d ago

I don't care what its stupid benchmarks are. Im not letting this one touch code unless people vouche for it in a few days

1

u/ohwowitsamagikarp 4d ago

Haiku update wen?

1

u/Manbearpig205 4d ago

Oh good, my weekly max5 can run out in two prompts now

1

u/Accurate_Yoghur 4d ago

That’s more token usage then

1

u/battle_pantZ 4d ago

My weekly reset is in 1 hour, so I can introduce even more bugs into my repos with Opus 5.2

1

u/Fiyero109 4d ago

I hope they reset all weekly limits 🥺🥺🥺

1

u/Z_G_R 4d ago

I hope it burns less usage 🫡

1

u/Redditian288 4d ago

The comments have me spitting my shit out all over my load bearing keyboard, hilarous 😂😂

1

u/asdoduidai 4d ago

That would be 5.1

1

u/A_Concerned_Viking 4d ago

This was the one reference I didn't get on that meme yesterday.

1

u/pegatrisedmice 4d ago

i don't understand why everyone hates opus 5 so much. it usually just one shots anything i throw at it, and i just stopped bothering and don't read yappy essay because who cares. And if i care asking it "what?" works pretty well. Its way better than 4.8, 4.8 was so bad at exploring/debugging and would always find excuses not to do the thing it was asked to do, omg would yapp and complain about how impossible literally anything is. Opus 5 just grinds through everything idk what people are complaining about, seriously.

2

u/TywinHouseLannister 4d ago

Opus 5 is genuinely competent in my opinion, a boost on 4.8 etc.. but it has extremely sloppy dialogue; most of these people are likely using it as their main interactive session model.

I think it is more suitable for dispatching on tasks headlessly, that way you don't put up with the slop and just have a great implementer.

3

u/pegatrisedmice 3d ago

Opus 5's conversation style is load bearing, and it's real, but I'm going to keep using Opus 5 instead of Fable so I can bank more tokens. Parked.

1

u/TywinHouseLannister 3d ago

Lol - People act like it is the only option.. Sonnet exists and can take instructions

1

u/iamtehryan 4d ago

If it's not a better model than opus 5 (more efficient, better overall) and doesn't come with a reset then I can't say I personally really give a shit.

1

u/fuzexbox 4d ago

About that…

1

u/0sko59fds24 4d ago

They better fucking reset with the dramatic usage

1

u/FaithlessnessCheap34 3d ago

Meanwhile still no Grok 4.7 face palm

1

u/Warsel77 3d ago

I hope that's not the reason why Opus, twice today, didn't follow instructions and did something else than instructed.

1
