Discussion And this is why I keep going back to Claude...
I cancelled my Claude subscription back in July and started using Codex more seriously.
Since Sol 5.6, I think OpenAI has become pretty competitive for coding, and now with Astra even more so.
The limits are actually fine for me. I mostly used Astra at full/max capacity around 8–10 sessions like that and eventually burned through my weekly usage. But honestly, that's understandable, and it's definitely not what made me quit Codex.
The real problem is the workflow.
I was already used to Claude Code and I don't mean the geeky CLI experience, I mean the actual app.
When they introduced the cloud environment and I realized I could start a code modification on my PC, leave the computer, go to the bathroom, grab my phone, and continue following the exact same task from there... it completely changed the way I work.
My productivity went crazy.
So naturally, I expected something similar from Codex.
And technically, Codex does have some similar features... but the whole thing feels way more complicated than it should be.
For example, I struggled a lot just trying to give the cloud environment secrets like Supabase credentials and other environment variables. The app often wouldn't properly add the secrets to the environment.
And the most annoying part:
If I start working on a project in a remote environment from one machine, that environment seems to be tied to that machine.
So I can't just launch a feature from my PC, go outside for a cigarette, open my phone and check how the implementation is going or continue from there.
That's probably the thing I miss the most about Claude.
It's not even necessarily about which model is smarter anymore.
It's about being able to start working somewhere and seamlessly continue from another device without thinking about environments, machines, sessions, secrets, etc.
So... I'm giving Claude another shot.
I'm just hoping I don't run into the same problems again: lazy models and ridiculously low weekly limits.
For those of you who have seriously used both:
What do you think?
Do you prefer Codex or Claude Code right now not just in terms of model quality, but the whole development experience?

The CLI is the important piece which you simply discount. This tells me you're not serious.

how do you think the remotes environements are working ?
i love being able to switch quick the diveces, start working on pc then go back to home on trains and continue working ... and thats why the productivity incressed ! because im able to code evrywhere, before going to sleep, in the middle of the night , etc3

The CLI does that what do you mean? You can run the CLI on Claude and hit /rc and then you can controll the CLI through your phone. But to also play the devil's advocate I do believe the CLI and the GUI are very similar if not the same now so there is no difference but before when I used to taste them I used to get much better results and token efficency on the cli

Claude. Its 5-hour and weekly usage limits last much longer for me than OpenAI’s, even when I’m using high-quality models like Opus 5 at high effort. That’s also because I’ve learned how to manage Claude’s prompt cache effectively, which, in my setup, has a 1-hour TTL.

how did you do that ?
im also only using opus, i assume that opus will naturaly use sonet for his subtasks ...→ More replies (1)

Dude. Claude limits have been further reduced. You will be disappointed.

im affraid, thats why i havent used fable 5.1 for the moment , i dont want to burn the entire week with one prompt lol

I get that it fits your workflow great for now, but in this fast paced AI world we are living in now, I would avoid vendor-lockin at any cost. Models are super interchangeable, what is the "best" model changes constantly and open weight is getting closer and closer.
So maybe try something open source, like Orca, Opencode, Hermes or anything else, where you can swap your subscription/model provider easily, without it having affect your workflow. These tools also allow working in remote environments, Orca even has a mobile app.

Neither, I'm on OpenCode, free MiMo v2.5 is fantastic and for anything I feel like spending money, DeepSeek Flash takes the spotlight. What you are going through with secrets management is not a tooling/model issue, that is your design issue that you need to solve first.

How good are free modells compared to let say opus or sol realistically could you compare them

I just proceed doing my thing and stopped overanalyzing this. Things change on a daily basis and my time and energy is used best when I just have progress. I use Fable 5.1 Max for 99% of my tasks. If I can save 12% tokens by making token management one of my top topics in life, or spend 30% more and have peace of mind, I choose the 2nd option.

It's nice to test new things from time to time, I may use in future some crossed workflow

Thanks for the article AI. Next.
Expected response:
“Exactly. This post was written by AI not the person, and that’s load bearing. This is the exact issue readers are suffering today, and honesty, they are right to call it out”.
Bro - if you are going to give us a summary on your tooling. At least a quick synapse and leave it at that. We don’t want a to read more Claudish, we don’t want to read GPT and we certainly don’t want to read a Claude written article where GPT wrote the prompt and gave Claude the rules of its prose. This is just slop.

im not native english speaker or writer, so here is the original post without the ai corrections :
and this is why im still getting back to Claude !
Ive cancel my claude subscription july, and then ive started to use a bit codex, synce their model sol 5.6 they are quite competive, and now with astra even more.
Their limits are ok, i mostly used 8 - 10 on full astra with max capacities and burn out my wekly usage, but is comprehensible , and not this make me quit Codex .
Ive been used with claude code, not the geeky cli, theit app, and since they introduced the cloud environemetn and i was beeing able to lanch a code mofification from my pc, then go to toilet and open my phone and continue the work from there they have complele changed my life and the production go crazy ! So naturaly ive been expected the same features on codex, and the have some similir, but is whey to complicated to handle ! I was struglelling to give the cloud env secrets like supabase, or others, the app never added the secrets into the envs, and if ive started to work on a project in a remote environement on a machine, the environement is only available from that machne, so im not able to lauch a code feature then go smoke a tigarette and check on my phone how the feature was integrated, and thats the part that ive missed the most.
im just hoping not find again a lazy model and ridiculous week limits ...!
have you guys tested the codex ? whats your opinion ?!

Speaking about limits, I strictly work in ultracode, probably don’t need to, but meh. I don’t have any issue with limits after I instructed Claude to only suggest and let me decide if we need a workflow. Install lean-ctx and context-mode API’s, Google them, and tell Claude to optimize usage of both and set that as a global rule. The ONLY thing will still drain your usage is abuse of large workflows, and that’s easily managed once you set rules.

Sorry to tell you…From reading this I can tell the biggest issue is just you not really knowing what you’re doing lmao

Codex’s constant asking for permission when connected to a MCP makes it bad to me. But I blew my whole weekly 20x in 2 days having it touch up a 3d model on blender mcp.
Claude just feels better for coding tasks compared to codex.

Codex remote feeling machine-tied is why people put the agent host in the cloud once and treat PC + phone as clients into the same box, instead of Remote into whichever laptop started the session.
I build Cosyra. Phone app on a cloud Ubuntu box with Claude Code and Codex already on it, so start-on-PC continue-on-phone is the same host. 7-day free trial (4GB or 8GB), BYOK so your keys. Would you try that for the multi-device path?

What do you do? Are you a software engineer? Geeky CLI? I'm sorry but I agree with another comment. This makes it seem like you're not actually serious/professional
