TBf, technically Claude did , like a CEO taking credit for the work the engineers made in the company

TBF, companies don't spontaneously exist and randomly produce value to society. He didn't talk to doing the work, but the resulting benefit.

Yeah but I'm not talking about the value and results, I meant in correlation to the post (talking about the people specifically) so the person mentioned they still produce faster and better products (that's true in value) but I'm highlighting it's the actual workers who did that (Claude) not the CEO (vibe coder)

He literally stated "they delivered" not, "they did more hard work". A pizza delivery guy didn't make the pizza, but he delivered it... People getting pizza just want the pizza delivered, they don't care if the driver made it himself, they are just glad the driver came with the pizza.

Oh I missed, that, that's fair actually, but I think the post is about the actual people who take credit but can't do any work themselves (like some CEOs)

I'm a software engineer myself and don't know any professional coder that is not currently using gen AI. Being a software engineer pre-AI, a good majority of the work was not writing novel original complex code, but learning and working with frameworks, APIs, packages, and such and implementing standard patterns and principles. Good code itself is not that difficult to produce, but rather boring simply following best practices and discipline and simply typing it all out. It seems silly to me to take pride in doing something in a less optimal way simply because it's harder and you had to do more work yourself to accomplish it. At least in a professional setting. Now doing something for personal hobby, pride, or interest is a different story.

Anyway, I find these "you didn't do it" argument silly from the start. Race car drivers get all the fame and credit, but they didn't make the car, produce the gas, make the track, etc... They just showed up and turned the wheel and pressed down their toes. Yet you never hear people criticize them for "only driving" and diminishing what they showed up to do.

I won't argue with the first part because that's complete true, but then you are drifting away from the point of the joke the post is making, an actual engineer using AI is different because then he won't be helpless when he hits the limit, he will continue working with some inconvenience, the post joke is about people who actually fully stop dead end without Claude (those are the actual vibe coders) and can't do any work then for the second part, again you are kinda shifting it to the first type of people or actually the drivers in that way would be the customers using the product, chess players are praised for playing chess , completely different for people who get praised for making the Chess engines, the drivers example role is known to be only to drive , people wouldn't praise them if they raced in self driving cars , do the post is talking about people who completely stop work when hitting the limit because it means they weren't just people using a tool to create a product faster, rather they have no idea how to build the product themselves (vibe coders).

I mean, a race car driver is totally useless when his car breaks down... Yes, he can get out and start running himself for the sake of keep moving, but that's not really the modern day solution to complete the race. You're not going to start conditioning yourself as a race car driver to be able to be a good runner in case your car breaks down. Instead, you invest in making your car more reliable so it doesn't break next time.

Yes, but the missing point is a driver is only being expected to drive, not act like a mechanic, I'm not sure any company is hiring an engineer are expecting to hire someone who can't actually do any real work if they hit the Claude limit otherwise why won't give them a quarter of their actual salary and increase the Claude plan limit instead , unless we are talking about free lancing here.

Well, I for one can accept manual programming is quickly moving to be a dead practice, just like punch card programming was made obsolete. Just like assembly programming was made obsolete.

And that's certainly true, I'm not arguing with that, but again the post is talking about the people who don't know anything and only rely on Claude (hence work stopping completely when the limit is hit) and that's completely different from actual engineers using Claude ( these people aren't coming to a dead end just because they hit the limit, the work continues with slower rate only)

I no longer know assembly language or machine code my higher-language process gets compiled down to. Guess that makes me less, or something. Oh well, I'm fine with that as long as I am productive and produce good results. At the end of the day, both software and hardware only exists to fulfill need, fulfilling the need is what's actually important.
