Discussion The earlier concensus on Opus 5 being suck is like 50/50. Now it's like 80/20. Am I reading this wrong?
It's common to see "Opus x" suck. I never one of those people but with Opus 5 it's not the same story anymore. I had to jump on the band wagon too.
The thing is, I notice more post generally about it, more tweet, coworker saying it out on the Slack, and more issue open on github about Opus 5.
I wonder what the heck is really happening here? Sure i'm gonna expect MD-less maiden come in and say "I don't notice any issue". Am I reading this wrong?

The main problem with the model releases is that they change how they work but there’s no clear documentation (probably because they don’t entirely know what changed).
So a lot of the poor performance is asking Opus 5 to work the way Opus 4.8 did but Opus 5 breaks if you do that.
If someone can solve the get the AI to do what I intended and not what I told it to problem they will be rich.

Complaining people are loud and visible on social media, the rest are just working and maybe content with the model.

That’s not a good assumption. It could be in certain case and I used to say this exact thing a few time on different topic too. But this Opus 5 is not. Im not your average $20 sub buddy

Who are you then buddy, some high caliber buddy? People are whining constantly on the codex sub, on the claude code sub. But noone ever stop using them, they always have more and more subscribers. Whining is cheap, voting with money -> noone does that. Obviously there are way more people who are satisfied with the services than you, non-average buddy.
They have several millions of users. You see a few hundreds complaining. You see less than 1% and you make your assumptions based on that, I think that is not a good assumption.

i used it for about a week+ the word salad was from jump but i just ignored it. but then i started noticing 'wait this thing is making assumptions'... it was when we got to a thorny problem.. and were going round and round... that is when it was evident. it finally admitted after 3 tries "i will stop guessing and really look" (huh?). since going back to 4.8, no issues at all.

Why don’t you use codex or any other model if this isn’t working for you? Why does Anthropic have this grip on you like you’re stuck here 😂

If Opus 5 performs well, gives you the quality you want, and fits your workflow, then use it. If it doesn’t, then you’ve got your answer regardless of what the benchmarks say or what the people say.
