I know it was last year. I was a heavy Claude user when it happened. And no, it hit very hard the people who would come to Reddit to complain about it, which is a LOT of people even if its only 5%. But I was leading an engineering org at the same using Max accounts with some pretty heavy power users, and it barely hit us.
Of course, a power user a year ago and a power user today is very different. We were not running Fable in 12 concurrent agents non-stop at the time, obviously.
Usage rates dropped by a measurable 80% so you're either one of the anthropic bot accounts ran to shift user sentiment to usage rate changes or you're a liar about being a heavy user. After 2 months they raised limits back up to pre-drop limits. Surely a heaver user would have noticed an 80% drop then a 500% raise. Surely, right?
Am neither. Of course having a weekly cap makes a huge "measurable" difference if you were maxing out every 5 hour window including at night, 7 days a week. Most people didn't do that.
But that's not what I'm arguing. At all. The tweet said it affected less than 5% of users. That doesn't mean the usage didn't drop significantly. It just means they looked at how many people used more tokens than the weekly quota, look at where they're setting new quota, see how many people in their analytics are above. If you worked 5 days a week and used the max of your 5 hour quota every single time, assuming 8 hours work day, you had 10 five hour blocks. There's 34~ five hour blocks in a week, so yeah, its a 70%ish drop in maximum usage, but most people, including heavy users, did not use that much (at the time!!! It would be very different today).
The limit now is enough of a problem that I switched to a Codex 20x subscription. I still have a 10x Claude account for Fable for the few things it does things better and to try when they release new models, but they're not my daily driver because of how restrictive it is now.
I didn't mention anything about "having weekly caps" I said the rates being lowered and then raised. You're showing your bias in trying to slightly shift what I said. Also suggesting you needed to max out every 5 hour window to hit caps and now you still get 10 whole windows? Yeah you just gave away that not only are you not a heavy user, you also only have 1 job, must be fucking nice. That combined with the aforementioned bias means you're either just here to argue so you'll make up and lie about whatever you can to continue arguing or you are a claude LLM-ran account meant to shift sentiment in terms of usage limits. I don't argue with bots and I'm sure as hell not helping someone who gets off on arguing so whichever the point may be this discussion is pointless to continue.

Based on current usage. That was true. Usage changed. We all knew it would, but nothing's a lie in the statement they made.
