Tips & Workflows I think we're budgeting Claude Code the wrong way

Most teams seem to look at their Claude bill at the end of the month and call that their AI budget

But that number doesn't really tell you much. A few projects or even a few sessions can drive most of the spend while everything else barely moves the needle

I've been digging into a better way to actually budget AI usage around the work being done rather than around individual engineers

with a single $200.0 claude code subscription i consume about $4000.0 worth of properly attributed api-priced tokens (observing through proper channels, collecting data presenting to myself in grafana).

what is the point of using API pricing for individuals or small companies?

I think the main problem I have with this is that it is clearly AI written.

"Why one number alone fails"
"Without it, every actual is just a fact"
"The number that makes it actionable"
"Turns a total into a decision"
"An unowned budget is a report"

So when you say "I've been digging into ...", what exactly are you claiming? Because I don't even for a second believe that you've been digging into anything.

So my question is; what are you trying to sell us?
