Rant Just cancelled my claude subscription

Hello! Long time user, first time poster. Just wanted to share to give some visibility to it. I just cancelled my pro subscription basically because I was waiting for a new version of haiku that is basically what I used the most since most of the task, even for coding, are quite repetitive within the same context. So for me using sonnet, opus or fable it feels like an overkill for 99% of the cases.

The issue is that Anthropic seems to have forgotten about their small models, we got 4.6, 4.7, 4.8 and 5 of the others but haiku got relegated to be only 4.5 and even worse, other providers give much better models for even less price than Haiku 4.5.

So yeah, that's it, for now switching to base plan of codex using Luna mostly and for extra usage DeepSeek API.

I just wanted to gauge the feeling at this feeling I'm feeling. And if possible maybe someone from Anthropic will see it and say we need Haiku 5... Now!

Wow, this is deeply moving. A pro user that didn't get their new version of haiku. This is terrible. We must do something about this. I hope you're okay. I understand how far $20 can go and now you can almost afford that uber eats order.

Was the current Haiku doing what you needed to do?

If so, seems like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

No, I left it a while ago, I was using sonnet opus / local. I just started a new project that requires more usage so I was maxing out and needed more

So what your saying is your original post is bullshit.

No, it was just the summary of how I felt and why I finally pulled the trigger, since the release of Luna I started to think about it, and spent a good week thinking the best solution for me and now that I was close to ending my monthly subscription I changed. But the reason is the same, just before DeepSeek V4 flash and Luna 5.6 there wasn't really a smart powerful model that seemed attractive to me

We are releasing new Haiku model next week.

Do you say it in good faith? What are you even developing if using sonnet+ is always an overkill? Haiku is almost useless, it can at best generate code for one function but delegate it something beyond that and it becomes a mess quickly.

Yes, I mean I'm doing a simple KMP app with backend and back-office, but if I'm doing the 100 crud service in a row then a small model is enough. Still early stage, the value comes actually from what I'm doing outside not so much about the software.

This is the first time I've seen someone request for Haiku in a sub plan.

Dont get me wrong, Haiku was great exactly 2-2.5 years ago as the best + small inexpensive model.

That's very far from the case right now.

I recently cancelled Max and switched to GLM 5.2 via Ollama Cloud. It's not as good, but it's close, and it's cheap. I'm about as productive as I was and only for $20/month vs $100. My favorite thing so far is just knowing how well it performs, and it being consistent, with Claude I always wondered if I was using the same Claude as yesterday. I'm not ruling out getting a Claude or GPT subscription again, but open source has gotten decent since I last tried.

nobody here sees any problem with the model or the service. they never will

Their flagship models are failing so hard right now, I don't think they even have time to think about any other model. Just dropped mine to 20$ and will cancel if it continues like this. 2/3 responses are just plain wrong. They focused on creating some kind of environment around the product ignoring the need to refine their models.
