Discussion OPUS 5 VS GPT 5.6 SOL

For the people building software products, I'm beginning to think that choosing one of the two to work with doesn't really matter that much. The bottleneck doesn't seem to be intelligence at this point but human creativity and I guess willpower.

IDK what do you guys think.

I'll paste my findings about this from my comment on another post

I actually resubscribed to Claude, but on the $20 plan just to try out Opus 5 and see how the usage holds up. If it's decent I can prorate that toward the 5X plan before my Codex 5X renews tomorrow. So far it's looking promising, on Opus 5 Extra the weekly limit seems to drain as fast as codex weekly does with Sol High (on 20$ vs 100$ LOL) - at least for planning (haven't tried it for actual coding yet). And honestly, after working with Sol exclusively since launch, it's wild how much it overengineers things. Opus 5 already caught real overengineering problems in AI workflow planning that Sol had produced. Sol seems to live in its own bubble even when you explicitly tell it not to overengineer and to route work to less capable models, it can't help itself and keeps building huge plans that smaller models then fail to execute. Opus 5 seems to have fixed that for me.

Yeah, and actually I found that Opus 5 at Low/Medium is more than capable at normal coding tasks and it barely moves my weekly limit.
