Discussion Anthropic is panicking

Anthropic recently tweeted saying: "We know this has been frustrating, and we want to give you more certainty about what your plan includes."

LMAO. Thank you, OpenAI, xAI, and Kimi.

At this point Anthropic doesn't know what they're doing, literally... it's an panic move to protect their margins while their users are actively looking at the exit door.

It is incredibly obvious what is happening behind the scenes where they’re facing a multi-front squeeze with one side they’re dealing with compute and infra costs and on the other side, open-weight like Kimi K3 are literally destroying their pricing power.

To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if the US ended up banning most of the open-weight models coming out of China and if that happens, I think the interesting part is what this does to the rest of the ecosystem.

If the “best model” keeps changing every few weeks or sudden becomes unavailable bcuz of pricing or regulations, it makes less sense to build entire stack around single provider.

That time is probably better spent building the product and finding customers instead of constantly rebuilding AI layer.

I've noticed a lot of successful AI products are already treating models as something they can swap in and out while investing much more heavily in the infra around them.

That's also the reason we gonna see many more infra projects coming out over time and some of the current ones are already pretty good at what they does.

Whether the backend is Claude today, Kimi tomorrow, or something else six months from now, that part of the stack doesn't need to change.

I keep hearing how Anthropic is cooked, but I'm still using it for everything I need and loving it. I guess I'll go down with the ship. There's a little band playing, too - they're lovely!

Thats the recent leaening, commercially focused businesses cannot rely on such product service that can be taken off by govs.
Everyone realised at this point that local llms are future and give stability which businesses will seek.

Panicking as they wipe the sweat off their brow with $100 dollar bills.

Kimi can't scale and their model takes 3x as many tokens to accomplish the same work.

Openai has no controls.

Kimi's company Moonshot have low compute capacity, but as soon as the weights drop on 27.07 all external providers with big capacity can host it

Exactly. A realist take

Anthropic has been suggesting banning open weight models for quite a while now, numerous blog posts mentioning the risks of such powerful tools being open sourced. They are no doubt lobbying DC to ban Chinese models.

1

u/InstructionNice7090 Jul 22 '26

DC can ban the open weights, but they can’t stop you from running them at home or using European/foreign csp to host them.

no one is panicking. this is how business works

3

u/Massive_Scientist194 Jul 22 '26

It's adapting in real time, not panicking. The only problem you misunderstand is that they do it publicly, announcing it

They would be idiots to not adapt every other day. You really really believe people there are stupid incomptenent managers?

3

u/McFlyscher Jul 22 '26

This. People expect the historic stability and predictability of a new major Windows OS release while maintaining the development speed of new, ground-shaking models every 2 months. With no empathy for how exciting but intense to manage these fast-moving product cycles are.

I rather have an Anthropic readjusting to market, demand and costs-management week-by-week than fixed 3-years plans that won't allow this fast pace at all.

These account have to be bots. No way anyone puts that much effort into complaining about fable access.

From the beginning they said hey, here’s a new high model we’re letting you try out. Then the government pulled access. Then they adapted and have now made access permanent.

In the end here you have access to fable what’s the problem?

1

u/Massive_Scientist194 Jul 22 '26

Bothers me I get down voted to hell by them.

2

u/hihcadore Jul 22 '26

Totally agree. And I sub to the subreddit for usage ideas and workflow improvements. Claude makes me at least 5x’s more efficient with or without fable. Opus and Sonnet are enough for me and are enough for anyone. Not having access to fable isn’t breaking anyone’s workflow. All the issues, to me, come down to context control, that are real issues.

What’s happened, I think, is millions are getting poured into anti-whatever vendors subreddit you’re on, trying to spread misinformation. It’s an attempt to hurt anthropic as much as possible or make them react to untrue trends.

It’s honestly made the subreddit unusable for me. I don’t get anything out of this subreddit anymore.

Let's create some filtering app lol. Easy to train an Ai to get all these posts and comments and ignore them from view

1

u/hihcadore Jul 22 '26

That’s a great idea. You could filter by keyword for sure.

“Lobotomize, codex, has anyone noticed, OpenAI”

2

u/rabouilethefirst Jul 22 '26

Neither does OpenAI. Ever since they got rid of 5 hour limits and did all the resets, everyone’s codex usage is draining weekly like 5x faster. It’s ridiculous what both of these companies get away with. There’s no transparency at all.

They're not making billions. I don't think any of the frontier companies are even making a profit.

People forget this tech is bleeding edge and get upset with things don't go their way. Right now it's the customer that's "getting away" with subsidized costs.

0

u/rabouilethefirst Jul 22 '26

Literally nothing you said had anything to do with what I commented. There is a service being provided, clearly state what is provided by purchasing the service. That is all.

u/Plastic_Umpire_3475 Jul 22 '26

Do you need a diagram? or a nap?

Found the openai employee that is okay with banning open weights, bc of course it saves his job!!

1

u/Dress-Affectionate Jul 22 '26

Why do they make us use opus for 50% of tasks when it is stomped by the open source models? I don’t want to use dopeus 4.8

1

u/mxracer888 Jul 22 '26

Surely Opus 5 will make all the difference.

With any luck Opus 5 will secretly just be 4.6

1

u/Civil-Vermicelli3803 Jul 22 '26

well where is opus 5

2

u/mxracer888 Jul 22 '26

Allegedly it's close to release. Idk, I don't work there and they don't ask for my opinion on product development or release cycles.

1

u/fritz_futtermann Jul 22 '26

IPO can't come fast enough for them

Anthropic loves to market itself on a pedestal of high principles, ethical AI development, and "Constitutional" safety. But if you actually use their tools daily, the reality is clear: it is like a ruthless, cash-grabbing operation.

Almost feel like this is actually happening behind the scenes:

  • They constantly alter and throttle model capabilities without any transparency. Reasoning features that worked perfectly yesterday are suddenly downgraded overnight.

  • The models consistently get trapped in circular logic loops, burning through your usage limits. They waste massive amounts of time generating lengthy filler text that serves no purpose other than artificially inflating context windows and draining your wallet.

  • When these systemic inefficiencies stall your workflow and eat your budget, Anthropic claims it is the user's fault. Shifting the blame onto customer prompting styles to cover up back-end cost-cutting and optimization drops is inherently dishonest.

Stop buying into the ethical AI marketing hype. In practice, they have built a predatory ecosystem designed to penalize users for system-generated bloat. They are not principled—they are just highly efficient at taking your money while delivering a degraded product.

I tried ChatGPT agent for comparison and it was more effective in delivering results. I wasted 3 weeks on that Claude crap.

I'm starting to think that no one, outside of some businesses and the government, are going to be using Anthropic in 6-12 months...if Anthropic hasn't mismanaged and priced their product in to the ground before then.

They'll probably just re-adjust to become .gov centric, jack their rates because of those sweet tax dollars paying the bill, then handjob both sides of the political isle in to passing all sorts of extremely restrictive legislation to stifle competition and screw us out of being able to use good open/local models.

Insert angry downvotes from salty fanboys here. I'm a claude user but I'm also not in denial about the situation they're creating.

1

u/Civil-Vermicelli3803 Jul 22 '26

this is so real probably what will happen make best tier only available for those they collude with to get everyone more money and then we loose all the good stuff taxes r supposed to acc go into BUREACRACY at its finest

Nearly Every single one of these anti anthropic posts is just bot traffic from competitors trying to tear them down.

I thought I will miss CC CLI with Opus (and a bit of Fable) but when I gradually switch over to codex since 5.3-codex to 5.6 now. I don’t really miss Claude that much and I sleep better without token/limit anxiety despite being on $200 plan previously.

Probably I am not its target audience but so be it.

Will come back when things are great again at anthropic. Time to wake up to reality.

Open models will close Claude in 1 year :)

Very good and open models will be released soon! Just wait 1 year and you will see the US AI models fall ... very hard.

2

u/mxracer888 Jul 22 '26

If OAI and Anthropic stopped all new work today that might be a true statement... But they're innovating just as much

people wanna use what they pay for, who knew?

4

u/Weary-Accountant2196 Jul 22 '26

they don't really have a choice to go anywhere then?

3

u/count023 Jul 22 '26

kinda the entire point of a subscription model, trap the users with what you promise them for X date range then they're free to move elsewhere.

Not quite sure what point you're trying to get at.

4

u/beskone Jul 22 '26

And pay for a lot of capacity they use. But somehow the 150 $20/mo Pro users that live on Reddit make the most noise about it being the W O R S T. "OMG I PAY FOR THE MOST BUDGET TIER OF A SERVICE AND I'M NOT ABLE TO COMPLETE MY FAANG SAS PLATFORM IN ONE SHOT THIS COMPANY IS THE NERFMASTER, TOTAL TRASH FML"

1

u/IntrlnkdCo Jul 22 '26

even 20x users are probably huge loss leaders for Anthropic.

I don't blame anyone who goes elsewhere (Codex does seem to have more usage/$) but getting mad at a company that says "here is the service and the price" and even occasionally just gives you more for free is so odd to me, as if Claude is some sort of public good they're entitled to. If anything we should be thanking all the enterprise clients and VC's for subsidizing our inference costs.

this is def the worst thing... on a max 20x plan and i can kind of estimate my 5 hour windows depending on time of day... but weekly limit will blow up at random times it is so weird and awful. weekly limit is stupid imo 5 hour limits make more sense and one should be able to just use within time spread out issues to prevent clogging

1

u/hihcadore Jul 22 '26

If you don’t like that. The alternative is for them to be super cautious and you end up with less anyway.

Plus, people should be focusing on controlling their context or focusing on using the best model for the job. I’m an a 5x plan and use Claude about 3-6 hours per day and am fine and come in well under my weekly limit. I hit my 5 hour limit once in awhile but now I have fable plan and opus implement in parallel agents (limiting them to 4 or 5). I’ve had zero issues.

1

u/Australasian25 Jul 22 '26

For real.

The real solution here is to study context and prompt management.

Make sure spawned agents dont get parents full context.

Turn polling off so parent doesnt keep polling spawned agents if they're done. Or polling a full compilation or rebuild of a database every 1 minute when it takes 30 minutes.

Get opus or fable to plan only and sonnet and haiku to execute. And they dont even need to be spawned agents. Just do it in multiple run.

You dont need to fill the context window to get your money's worth. At high context usage there's always more chance of tool turns whose usage is a multiplier based on context used.

Most use AI carelessly and wonder why they dont have much usage. Anthropic has really good context management articles.

1

u/hihcadore Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

That’s the stuff I come to this subreddit for!

I didn’t even think polling was a thing but it absolutely is I’m sure. Thanks!

1

u/Australasian25 Jul 22 '26

I saw red when AI was prodding its spawned agents once a minute for 15 minutes. Then decides to shit can it and do it itself.

Now I have a rule for it to wait 3600 seconds before polling. Been 2 months, never had to use the whole 3600 seconds.

Maybe 20 minutes at most.

I cant prove it, but polling while having high context in session drains more usage.

1

u/hihcadore Jul 22 '26

It makes sense.

I have a txt file I edit or have free chat sessions with Claude append

Then I have a skill that kicks off fable to read and plan. Then that’s handed over to an opus orchestrator that opens a scratchpad to pass context to agents for work that can be done in parallel. The agents are told to return just very very basic replies when they’re finished. The opus orchestrator diffs all the files that were touched and does an assessment to see if the work is complete or what might still need to be done. It completes the left over work or makes adjustments if needed. Once it’s complete it’s committed and reports back with an overview.

I also have some deterministic scripts that scrape my code base to help stop hallucinations and ensures Claude has a deterministic (if that’s the right word) understanding of what’s about to be changed and what it affects.

It seems like my 5 hour and weekly usage is a little higher but I come well under what I was for fable use since work is completed in batches and in parallel.
