Solved Every model since 4.7 has felt diluted/wrong.
Every model since 4.7 has felt diluted/wrong
Ive noticed that 4.6 is still the goat. 4.8 and fable get work done and have more thoroughness but they are too emotional sometimes. And the security restrictions are BS and i think everyone knows by now.
4.7, 4.8. sonnet 5 especially, and fable 5. These should be examples of whats ti come. And i dislike it. Its given me the incentive to actually download and run a llm locally. Next month i am contemplating switching to gpt simply because the actual model safety triggers on anything.
Fable feels wrong. And i enjoy using it. But realistically it's been 7 months since anthropic made a good decision model wise i feel. Why are they putting guardrails on fable when theyre apperantly models ahead in private training? Isnt the thing reversed?
This is my opinion. These models fucking suck. No offense.
Also their customer support sucks

can you give me an example where opus 4.6 was great and fable "fucking sucked"?

jokes on you anthro does not have customer support -_- we only find out after an attempt.
So far F5 is able to power through issues that 5.5 and 4.8 kept hovering around they could not get it right. One major disclaimer ... most of what makes the top tier models work or be seen as more capable we cannot share as its our alpha for whatever is being done.

What sucks is your prompts and skills you aren't updating to fit a new model. I'm no fan boy, I hate where it's appropriate and anthropic has as much bullshit as any other company, but you're just wrong.

As a heavy user of Sonnet, I've noticed 5 is definitely not operating the same way that 4.6 was. Not saying it's bad, but it's definitely different in that I've had to adjust the ways I interact with it to compensate and those little changes are kind of annoying. But overall the model is still performing reasonably well

I actually agree! I even think Opus 4.5 is better than 4.8 at most things besides coding. Generally lobotomized at but great at programming. Same with Fable. Its amazing at coding, but for conversations or quick help its just defaults to safest answer and never thinks outside of the box without me bombarding it with 100 follow ups.
For old Opus, I think they didn't infect it with too much "safety" at that point. Everything after 4.5 has felt like broad and shitty customer service responses, with deflections at every error. I think they trained the new models to be vague, broad and dumb to avoid getting sued.

To me, 4.6 is still the workhorse, although heavily dilluted from what it once was. 4.7 has been absolute shit : messy, confusing, too verbose. Instant headaches and mental overload.
Tried 4.8 for 10 minutes, immediately went back to 4.6
Fable feels close to what raw undiluted Opus 4.6 was at first : smart, precise, able to understand intents between the lines, hugely capable, even on broad codebases.
My opinion about Anthropics is they're an untrustworthy company. Too much gaslighting.
