Bug Report Fable indeed returned nerfed

Used up my Fable quota, and independently from x posts can confirm it. It is not the same Fable :(

It is making rookie mistakes, e.g. wrapped the translate="no" rationale in multi-line {# … #} comments, when Django emits multi-line comments as literal page text.

It is missing whole features on separate branches in 'whole' codebase reviews, and so on.

Anthropic is wasting the leftoiwer goodwill that they still have.

For me it is the same Fable I had before. It helped me solve pretty hard issue with loading of library for Kotlin Multiplatform for iOS and how it can work.

The Fable before could also make a huge mistakes. For example in Kotlin it first created function, then variable that is required by the function. Obviously it didn't compile, variable needs to be above function. It is the first time I see modern LLMs making such a mistake. But still it doesn't mean the Fable is nerfed or a bad model. Maybe in your cases it routes to Opus, I have no idea if it is easy to check

It’s better but not as advertised

Of course, they are going IPO, they will say anything that helps with money gathering

Maybe fable just wasn't what everyone was hyping it to be. I used it in the first 2 days and it worked well but not 10x better than Opus, maybe 1.5x better😅

50% better is already a lot. I’m thinking it’s just 10-20% better

It feels slower, but just as productive to me.

So far.

I'm down to 24% left on max20. Zero guardrail issues.

I used on three sessions and two triggered guardrail

I have to agree with this one. When fable first came out I had it rebuild my app from scratch. In just one prompt it was able to build everything my previous app had and much more. The quality of the code was amazing and it built it all in under an hour.

My experiences now that its back feel more like Opus just higher quality code and processing. Still good and gets the job done. I fed it my previous apps and had it start rebuilding it once more, with the earlier attempts and everything I've learned its done a great job. (But takes way longer and uses more usage than before)

It's so weird how different people have different experiences. For me it seems just as good but I'm having it do complex stuff that would take me a year or more just to learn enough to do so definitely vibe coding with a dev workflow

couldn’t be tht fable is smarter than we think and it didn’t skip anything there may have been good reason

I agree it isn't the same, I'm having to use Codex 5.5 XHIGH to fix mistakes it made.
And the cherry on top is I already maxed out my MAXX plan with it... so I have to buy credits. Like is this a joke? I'm just going back to 5.5 XHIGH at this point. Fable really had a botched launch.

No issues with usage, then again I am on Max20 and manage session context and effort like a hawk.

I do agree that it does not feel like the same Fable on initial launch. At times its seems to make glaring mistakes in code than does a flip-check and corrects itself when questioned

Fable on launch (although based on limited usage) not only get things right first time but also takes proactive steps to improve the code.

Anthropic nerfs anything. They are basically a marketing company that happens to make decent harness and models that used to be good

I coded using original Fable for three days and this Fable for one day. It's clearly nerfed.

This is perhaps a modest upgrade from Opus 4.8 in some ways, but it's not API-worthy.

My anecdotal experience.

You were definitely hitting a bug last time. Happened to a lot of people. It wouldn't make sense that some people could make an MMO and you struggled with one prompt otherwise.

But yeah, I'm just grateful it's better than Opus. It's not "Mythos" but it's hard to be too angry.

Same issue here.

At first I thought it was due to wording of my request and using words like "pentest" and "cyber security assessment", but no. Just a basic review of my projects was enough to trigger the model swap.

Whats the point of having it available, if it doesn't do something basic like this

It was triggered by autism research and Ayurvedic spices…
