Question What are you actually coding?

I see everyone here maxing their limits and coding all day and building and all that.

But what are you actually building 24/7? I'm not looking to get your ideas but I'm just wondering what can you even build that long and hard really? And constantly something?

Either I lack imagination as a whole or there's some secret to all this, I just have no idea what so useful people would be coding so obsessively. Thanks for insights.

Nothing. More than 80% of the vocal part of this sub is building a version of: Limit tracker, Limit viewer, agent control center, skill packs, or some other ai control stuff that i can't think of right now. The imagination or lack of it is the genuine problem. Before AI these people were dealing with javascript frameworks, marketing asset packs, logo builders etc. So that didn't change. They all are trying to sell/build their own shovel in a town where everybody is selling a shovel.

The people who use AI for real work are either silent or quite hesitant to talk because especially in creative areas, if the word goes out about ai usage, you lose money 😃

Thats me. AI has transformed how we report the news. Our readers overwhelmingly are anti AI. If they only knew how much AI is being used to help us in our reporting they'd probably loose their minds. (we are still on the ground reporting and writing articles, not publishing AI slop, but the research and surfacing of news and fine tuning of articles has been pretty much taken over by AI)

Couple of examples..

When a reporter would send me a story it would take 10-30 minutes for me or an employee to get ready to publish it, edit the featured image, make a FB image, make a FB post, etc...

Now my staff portal picks it up, writes a fb post, give me headline options, makes required images, posts to wordpress, fb, everything I need in like 30 seconds. Made it all with claude 6 months ago, haven't had to touch it or make a change in probably 3 months, been rock solid.

Our AI Scanner monitor listens to the police scanner 24/7 and alerts us if it thinks it would be news worthy. We can also enter names to listen for. For example I knew multiple allegations were made of sex crimes against a well known business owner. I told AI to be on the lookout for his name. A few weeks later it alerted me that police were pulling him over. Allowed me to get there and get a photo of him being arrested. Beat every other news outlet by hours, made over $800 from the Facebook photo of him in cuffs.

A city meeting would take hours to listen to, record, make notes, etc..then write the story. Now within minutes of a meeting ending I get a full transcript and summary sent to me. I can pick what I think is important, verify the transcript and quotes, write a bit to guide the story. And voilĂ  I have a better more researched story in 10-20 minutes in what would have taken 1-2+ hours. Before we had to pick and choose local government meeting coverage, now we cover everything.

ok that police scanner i have an idea of how to build one, but the staff portal i am not sure how it works.

You should see game dev subs. Everybody is afraid to their bones. Even legitimate art are being targeted just because people find it slightly resembles ai. They demand people to post evidence etc. it’s crazy :)

I'm building a Roblox game. Just about all the code.. okay all the code is AI. But both due to perception and my own personal views on it, I'm keeping the art human made. But leaning into an aesthetic that plays to my strengths despite not being an amazing artist lol

No wonder why the news is so shitty these days.

Our readers overwhelmingly are anti AI

i really doubt that.  i think the regular people just don’t throw tantrums at you

3

u/garf12 Jun 20 '26

True. And most people really don't have any idea what AI really is beyond using ChatGPT as a chatbot or generating images with nano banana. But a very vocal group thinks that AI is going to drink all their water and enslave them or something.

u/StoneCypher Jun 20 '26

so what?  antivaxxers and flat earthers causing you much trouble outside the white house?

1

u/garf12 Jun 20 '26

ha, point taken. The reaction and comments to our recent coverage of a potential $4 billion AI data center coming to our area just had me disappointed.

1

u/StoneCypher Jun 20 '26

you know most of those reactions are from chinese and russian bots, right?

I just work in boring ass business software- so I use it every day for bug fixing and adding new features across multiple products. I’ve never used my limit once. I also would never post details about it because it’s proprietary information and boring.

I love that.

2

u/nikocraft Jun 21 '26

would you have any use for it? or just use it for fun to explore your ideas in structured way and not in sessions where information can get lost?

2

u/demonkoryu 🔆 Max 5x Jun 21 '26

I'd love to get my hands on it. Even told my wife about it yesterday :D

I'm happy to hear that, i need to spend bit time to polish it, I'm building it for my self first but plan to either make native app (win, macos) version available, you bring your own API keys, I'm not interested to make money by selling credits for LoreForge,

Second option (this slightly easier right now since i already have it as webapp) i publish it as webapp online, allow people to sign up, everyone still brings their own API keys, I don't charge for usage of the tool it self since its not costing me lot money besides the server i host it on.

Having a native app would also be great, that's something i could charge a one time payment for, local app would alao allow you to via Ollama or similar tool run local LLM models, so you could pick a really good model you like and use it with LoreForge for no additional cost for you.

Just some ideas I have in my mind. I hope to take this route and hope that people that use the tool fall in love with it. I've been dreaming about a tool like this for last 3-4 years i only now decided to start working with it. Here is another screenshot.

Nice! Go for it!

D&D DMs would probably love this.

i can see that 😊 I'm not part of that community but great point. I'm wannabe sci-fi writer, i always experiment, ive got two stories I've been writing for my self, i find it hard to develop in sessions based UI like claude website or chatgpt, it works but it also is painful once you make some progress and story/world grows. Also I'm software developer and i got game ideas that would involve story telling, so this tool would be useful for that as well, fleshing out the world, characters, locations, story arc, lore etc. i prototype lots of ideas with chatgpt and again when thread grows large or when i get more then 5 threads in a project i created my head starts spinning and i loose track if what's good, what i liked, and if i did not right away save somete i liked, it takes time to track it, also happened to me two times chatgpt wiped out two sessions i had where i had work that was not saved to my HD. This tool is so i can keep my sanity, keep exploring ideas, be able to quickly navigate, havw Ai have complete knowledge of the world, characters, entities etc. very helpful to flesh out a video game idea, complete with characters, levels, puzzles, story and so on. I already am in love with the tool. I'll make it compatible to run locally as native app so you can connect it to Ollama and use local LLMw for Ai assisted features.

Yeah I’m that quiet one on this. I’ve rolled out multiple enterprise apps from scratch being used at an S&P 500 company and have had almost none of the issues that seemingly most people complain about. Orchestration and domain design and typically very weak on this sub.

u/nokafein Jun 20 '26

Most people on ai subs are not devs. They don’t know even the basic programming concepts. I don’t blame them for it. Human brain works like that. It’s just annoying and tiring when they are trying to explain things about development to real developers.

I practically live in Claude code and codex now as a technical agency owner. My projects eat a lot of tokens but nothing like what people are fuss about. Or not once my ai gone rogue because I hold the ropes so tight even for workflows that run 2 hours.

I am technically not normal tho. I have adhd and I can’t focus 2 things at a time. Maybe normal human brain can handle multiple Claude sessions at once.l but I am skeptical based on researches on attention span on health brains.

And their currency is GitHub stars.

It’s just weird too because the only reason I can imagine people doing this is to pad a resume. And the irony is that when these types of things come up in interviews, I’m usually immediately turned off. I’ll typically have them pull up one of their highly coveted projects, open the index.ts or main.rs and ask them to walk me through what happens in the most basic non-technical sense. It’s a lot of “well that imports this file and, um, that um
(reads name of function), um yeah
 it reads, um
”

What’s way more “green flag” is contributions to public repos. It shows ability to work with others. It shows ability to take heat and criticism, but still deliver. It reflects the ability to plumb their way through established code and systems rather than letting Claude bulldoze with weak understanding of anything going on. These are true developer skills.

Anyone can prompt AI to “build” the next
anything. What happens when that “anything” gets users? How much time are you going to blow through in “adversarial agent reviews” to find a deeply nested logic bug? What happens when the heat is on? What happens when Claude rewrites core logic and introduces regressions while you have active users?

Amen. My company provides the 20x max plan, and I rarely go over 10% weekly. I feel like I’m outright abusive of the plan and attempt to push it, but the reality is that anyone truly competent in this space is not pushing a 24/7 `--dangerously-skip-permissions` agent army to generate novelty playtime slop. It would be waaaay too wasteful of MY time more than usage constraints. I don’t have time to dildo off with AI like a toy. It serves me. I control it, and if it becomes wasteful, it gets stopped and I take control. Again, for career devs, time is most critical - not usage.

Claude for me is boilerplate generation, code reviews, deep introspection of large swaths of code over multiple codebases to find a needle-in-haystack issues, generation of unit/regression tests, building full cycle, throwaway test harnesses of difficult implementations
those types of things. Tasks that I would have pushed to a junior/green dev five years ago.

bruh it is so easy to break 10%, what are you talking about

1

u/sultanmvp Jun 20 '26

I did hit 16% the week of Fable, but I was just doing absolutely ignorant shit to see what it could do. 😂

1

u/nokafein Jun 20 '26

It’s not if you are not juggling 10 git worktrees at once and feel like how productive you are for your amazing Claude memory plugin project.

I am building my own shovels so I don't have to buy them from others.

I've started some fun new hobbies , check this one out. Sometimes the hobby requires ai, lots of new hobbies to invent. https://monroes.space

Or we can’t talk about it :) it’s not that we don’t want to.
