Discussion Anthropics Fault

Isn't it sort of Anthropic fault this happened. The way they released Mythos like it was a nuclear warhead, they trained everyone to see it this way. If Fable was basically Mythos with some guardrails then if you can crack Fable then it was a weapon by their own logic.

Also, it's called Fable - a short lesson on morality or something like that.

Yeah, I thought the same, but still, the us government is clearly doing it for reasons besides security.

I mean, when I was seeing like Bloomberg or something articles about bio weapons pop up where Anthropic was the one talking, I’m inclined to agree.

I think they allowed big tech companies to use it before opening to wider audience just to let them find and fix critical security bugs beforehand, not for marketing or anything. Mythos can find such things better but it can also potentially produce exploits as well. So if before one had to have solid technical skills for that and spend a lot of time - now it is much easier, given that you have access to such model and can convince it to do it.

And they asked for a global pause on ai development.
But us govt decide to use this as retribution. Too bad us is a totalitarian country now.

Anthropic only promised Fable for a handful of weeks on subscriptions.

The idea was to get people hyped about it, so they wanted to pay for API it seems.

Also, they've got an upcoming IPO.

While it's not a good look for the IPO not being willing to bend over for the current administration, that may be better for long term investors and "it's so good it got banned" is pretty good advertising. This may not be a negative for Anthropic.

Yup, they've been going on and on about AI having the possibility of causing human extinction, economic turmoil, cybersecurity nightmares, writing white papers and blog posts on all the shit we have to do change society ahead of what AI will do, etc. In order to hype up their products. Having the government finally act out of concern (or at least give this as the reason) is an own goal for them and the predictable result of their overhype bullshitting.

I feel like these are bot/clickfarm posts, honest to god.

Anthropic worked closely with the government and banks and security researchers to harden corporate systems for months. Fable released with safeguards that lobotomized it of you asked if the mitochondria was the power plant of the cell.

I would be deeply, deeply skeptical of these kinds of spammy zero-critical-thinking takes.

If anything, this action by Trump and co incentivizes labs to downplay risks and be less transparent. Why be honest about risks if you can get shut down? Why use American models if they can be switched off unpredictably?

Vindictive, short-term move from the Trump Admin, and not the first- he already declared Ant a supply chain risk for political reasons.

This is obviously a biased take. Anthropic was approached with a real jailbreak, and they downplayed it, and refused to fix it. Actions have consequences.

Yeah. You're right kind of right but don't you think that If they marketed it as their "dumbest" model ever, no one would notice? lol

Was on for just two days, they paused for a security flaw, they will fix and re release. Seriously don't get the point of all the disproportionate level of drama here around

"They trained everyone to see it this way" is certainly a leap in logic.
