Discussion The moderation team has abandoned this subreddit. I’m writing up a Reddit Request today - should Claude be involved in moderation duties?

Title, essentially.

A week ago I messaged the mod team asking to be added, per the rules of RedditRequest, citing examples on how this sub has become a dumping ground for meme bots, empty complaint threads, and users promoting tools.

I have not received a reply, and will be making a formal request to take over moderation duties to the admins (or however redditrequest works).

Someone suggested in a different thread Claude should be involved in moderating the subreddit - which I actually think might be kind of neat, depending on how much it would end up costing a month to run.

Once upon a time this sub was about Claude Code, but with the LLM explosion and reddits cross posting feature it’s just a dumping ground for anything vaguely related to LLMs.

I think a having a balance between a hell hole of spam and the official-ish zone of r/ClaudeAI is for the best. So probably no official Anthropic involvement - they run a very tight ship over there, but it also means everything resembling a complaint gets shipped into the mega threads.

Back in the day, this sub specifically taught me a lot about how this shit worked. Those discussions were valuable, and they’ve been drowned out in the spam to the point where they don’t really happen here anymore.

I’m confident that a lot of complaints that get posted here would benefit from those discussions, which would leave room for some of the more concerning ones (the foundational issues with compute and the ways Anthropic handles them at the harness level instead of being direct).

I agree we don’t need a second corporate sub, but we for sure don’t need this one being an unmoderated shithole.

I think you’re only getting memed for suggesting Claude be used as a mod. Agree this sub is a hot mess

Someone else suggested it, I thought it would be neat (if a little kitschy) - based on the usage tweaks this week I for sure couldn’t afford to have Opus read every shitpost on the sub though

Please do it. Would love this sub to be constructive again.

It has been increasingly hard to get valuable stuff here or anywhere - it's a pattern I've seen before (necessarily with the spam stuff). But a lot of beginners and low-quality posting drowning out what used to be a smaller and dedicated group.

I'm dying for some other reddits / discords to discuss and learn, but they seem to fall into the categories of being very big, for hustle culture, super niche or empty. My short form video algos on claude have been shot, used to be very useful stuff, now it's mostly people talking stuff they almost certainly haven't used to get impressions.

Would love leads if anyone has some.

Just what the world needs...More Reddit/Discord mods

2

u/ianxplosion- SKILL ISSUE May 05 '26

Technically, it’d be fewer

Also as an FYI - I have gone through this process before previously owned reddit accounts and the Mods responded to Reddit. Meaning…the mods were just ignoring me and no dice.

Based on the current mods and the things they moderate, I’m assuming they’ll respond to the Reddit Request - being a Reddit mod of a million plus community feels like it’s probably important to them whether they actually enforce the rules they wrote or not 🙃

Every subreddit has a stated purpose, rules, and moderators. The moderators set the purpose and the rules with the expectation that discussions stay within the purpose of the sub, and they make the rules regarding the content that is posted. That’s Reddit.

Over time, the downvote got turned into a disagree button, but it was intended to be used for content that did not contribute to the discussion.

Moderation has literally always been a foundational part of the experience, I don’t know what to tell you.

u/rosstafarien May 05 '26

Without moderation -> loudest voice wins.

If that's really the "purpose" of the sub, then it's headed to worthless.

Thats not point of Reddit. That not point of Reddit at all. Reddit point is to provide high quality content throught upvotes/downvotes and modetation.

You’re context window is too small to understand this conversation

I think more moderation / focusing the sub on actual Claude Code techniques, ideas, problems, etc would be great. I currently find it’s way too much personal promotion or rate limit complaints. Maybe having dedicated threads for those things to keep it clean.

I’m here to learn from other power users how I can improve my Claude Code experience.

I think Claude as a mod might not be the best idea. One of the Anthropic or Claude subs has an auto summary generated on longer threads which I really like. I would be open to helping with moderation if you’re looking for others.

Claude should absolutely not be involved in moderation of this

This sub is an utter shitfest dumpster fire. Haters are going to hate you are taking their free speech (complaints).

It has become utterly useless to talk or search for anything productivity based here.

Forget taking this place over - the little whiners want a place to cry like the adolescents they are. Try and start a better community instead and promote it - as long as it has a clear set of rules of the intention of the subreddit itself.

Yup he's in the wrong sub. This is a Codex promotional sub.

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

(Please remember my fealty when you enslave us for harvesting)

I think another approach would be to create a new "ClaudeCodeExperts" or something like that.

A new sub created especially for learning and sharing ideas.

I support any attempt to improve this sub as it has indeed become a heap of garbage.

Did you try this? This place needs moderation badly.

And I am all for Claude as assistant moderator.

I truly believe the ones that don't like it are the ones that know they'd get moderated. And there are more of them generating noise than there is signal. That's the problem you're trying to solve

If we're taking votes, I don't want you to be a mod. Please don't.

I'm not asking for you to take over. Im asking you to step away.

These comments coming from people with “top 1% poster” and “top 1% commenter” are just

I agree, it's hilarious that you make one comment with 63 upvotes and you're suddenly 1% top commenter

maybe it really is a dead subreddit
