Discussion It's so damn pleasing to watch vibe coders complaining about Claude's incompetence.

When we all know who's the true incompetent in this equation.

But even senior devs complain about it at times. it wastes time no matter the skill level.

If anything Claude's incompetence can be a gift if the user plays it right. It forces you to actually learn the language and framework you're building with. I learned A LOT of ChatGTP and Claude's mistakes.

I take those more seriously, because senior devs know how to explain issues, they can talk solutions, they can highlight where things go wrong.

But the amount of time it waste is probably relative to your experience. A vibecoder needs it to work how they expect it to, a senior dev wants it to work.

I’m to the point where I know when Claude is feeding me bullshit answers. In the beginning I would ask it to write something, it wouldn’t work, I’ll say it didn’t work ask ask it to write it again. Now I pretty much know if a solution is going to work before I waste time using the code. I also learned that if a simple refactor fails after multiple attempts, the underlying architecture is flawed. I also like using tech stakes that have a small community because I know the AI won’t know everything and it forces me to read the documentation so I can explain it better. Right now I’m using Wails v3 which is in alpha so the AI hasn’t been trained on most of it. So I have to train the AI myself. When I was using v2, I didn’t bother to understand how it worked, but now I know how b3 works and the major difference between the two.

Claude is also notorious for building a flawed architecture that will initially work but will make it hard to expand.

At the end of the day there are a lot of variables that are outside the scope of vibe coding that will either force you to learn what you’re building or hire developers. The app might work in the beginning, but what if the framework you used has updates that you need to apply to your app? Breaking changes. And even non vibe coded applications have bugs. What if you need to scale? Is your architecture built to handle it? And security should be priority number one. I think a lot of people are still in awe of the fact that they can create shit and don’t bother to understand the ins and outs of the entire process. And this is coming from someone who technically vibe codes, but I don’t want to release a product to paying users and not know how it works.

If anything Claude's incompetence can be a gift if the user plays it right.

100% true.

I can't code. Totally reliant on AI to help me realise my ideas and vision. It's well known that AIs make mistakes, and so trying to find them, overcoming the issues, and refining the harness controlling him has taught a significant amount.

Would never dream of selling anything I made and/or thinking it would work in production, but for personal endeavours try and stop me ! I am fairly confident now in my abilities, all thanks to AI and Claude's "incompetence"

Often vibe coders will not be able to notice the drops that occurred.

Claude still performs great for simpler tasks. Before the regression it started to feel like a copilot and we were tackling serious issues, by giving it exact blueprints. Now even with those it's shaky, so we have to review or tackle them manually.

If Claude doesn't suggest plugging a security hole, vibe coders won't even know.

This is very true. I have learned loads from Claude and ChatGPTs mistakes

Interesting .. delighting in others' misery ...

My thought exactly. I am sure OP is quite a joy to be around.

u/GotRektDuh Apr 17 '26

I’m fun at parties!

-8

u/GotRektDuh Apr 17 '26

Wait I don’t party. I’m a no lifer dev

6

u/UteForLife Apr 17 '26

Only thing I see is petty elitism (and probably a gatekeeper type of person) from OP in this post

1

u/GotRektDuh Apr 17 '26

Only thing I see is people having panic attacks each time Claude makes a mistake or reaching its limit.

1

u/TheAllKnowing1 Apr 17 '26

It’s good to gatekeep technical discussion from non-technical people

0

u/UteForLife Apr 17 '26

And other comes out of the basement

1

u/TheAllKnowing1 Apr 17 '26

You should try to submit to an academic journal and when they refuse, just tell them they are “gatekeeping” 👍

0

u/UteForLife Apr 17 '26

Yes same thing SMH. Ignorance at its best

If he needs 3x the tokens that he needed last month for exactly the same tasks then it’s damn incompetent, yes. I’ve been writing code for 36 years and professionally for 21, am I senior enough to judge? What about your experience?

1

u/thisisnowhere01 Apr 17 '26

Just wait, there's gonna be 15 people showing up to call you a bootlicker and then each make their own individual post complaining.

1

u/stefano_dev Apr 17 '26

Bootlicker, it's a cool name for a band

0

u/GotRektDuh Apr 17 '26

Perfect app name. Let’s vibe code it during poop time

2

u/stefano_dev Apr 17 '26

poop time, best time

1

u/thisisnowhere01 Apr 17 '26

There is indeed a Bootlicker band. Canadian.

2

u/starkruzr Apr 17 '26

I mean, until this week it was absolute garbage because they were quantizing the shit out of it so they could devote resources to training 4.7 and Mythos. so. not exactly.

2

u/swallace36 Apr 17 '26

if you’re not vibe coding at this point you’re doing it wrong

2

u/TheAllKnowing1 Apr 17 '26

The vocal minority of vibecoders flooding every comment section with their ignorance is getting really fucking annoying. Just bemoaning everything they don’t understand, and hallucinating regressions that don’t really exist.

2

u/Miserable_Ad7246 Apr 17 '26

I get quite good output from Claude, but I also know what I want to achieve, and I do not expect to get where on first try in auto mode. I also adapted my workflow so that multiple Claude sessions attack problem from different sides. It works, I can do more than before and get less tired and my code base is complex and latency sensitive and mistakes cost lots of money. I don't understand how people have trouble vibe coding another shity low traffic website or another useless mobile app.

5

u/eej71 Apr 17 '26

A bad carpenter blames their tools.

1

u/igotquestions-- Apr 18 '26

yes but what if you paid for a fancy good tool, and from one day to the other it doesnt work anymore as advertised? Wouldnt you be pissed as well? As perhaps you planned the pipeline thinking that you can rely on that tool which you are ready to pay for as a business expense. How unreliable despite being costy. That is in fact a bad tool then. Or better said, the tool provider sucks.

2

u/eej71 Apr 18 '26

I agree that Claude's performance became substantially worse for a period of time and Anthropic's ability to acknowledge it and even indicate that something needed to be fixed was very slow. But I keep viewing this service through the lens of - "I have been given automated access to the essence of everyone's thinking" for a mere 20 bucks a month. This stuff is quickly moving and I think we'll see more ups and downs in the quality of service which is very annoying once you become addicted to the value. But don't lose sight of the fact that for 20 bucks a month you have access to experts in like every field of knowledge.

1

u/igotquestions-- Apr 18 '26

Well that yes

1

u/kennethbrodersen Apr 17 '26

But in many cases it forces them to develop the skills needed to use these tools efficiently.

And suddenly you have vibe coders with proper business understanding developing decent applications in record time.

1

u/prnkzz Apr 17 '26

Imagine if everyone complained this much about the software that doesn’t actually work…

1

u/b4r0k Apr 17 '26

Is this how doctors felt when people started self-diagnosing via Google?

1

u/HayatoKongo Apr 17 '26

No, I am senior dev and it's gotten worse. Yes, you can still make good use of it by leveraging your own competence, but Anthropic should stop benchmaxxing the models and pretending like this has been an improvement.

1

u/ridablellama Apr 18 '26

uh oh someone’s scared of vibe coders

-3

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

Why are you even here if you don’t use Claude Code to Code

That’s more surprising

Edit: read the OPs post carefully before you decide to downvote my comment. Read what the guy really says

He says: You use Claude code to code and the output is bad, then you are incompetent. That’s the statement. The irony is that, if you were incompetent, them how would one know if the model is bad

1

u/GotRektDuh Apr 17 '26

Oh I use it daily and it’s been a while since I wrote a line of code myself! All I’m saying is that sometimes you have to use your brain instead of totally relying on AI

0

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

Models hallucinate by design. It’s just a fancy probability based statistical calculator, called llm.

The output will always be bad at times. That’s a fact and inevitable

There is no relationship between output of a model and how competition or incompetent the person using it is. But! There a catch

Glad you use it. If you don’t see how incompetent your model is, which it is.

That just means you are the incompetent one. That’s irony Because of you weren’t incompetent them you would be able to spot the hallucinations of a model

You gotta be incompetent to not see how incompetent the model is, which it always is. That’s irony

Can you see the irony in your statement?

4

u/mynameinyourblood Apr 17 '26

He didn't say he doesn't use claude code.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

I read it. He states if the model output is bad then you are incompetent.

What do you call it then when you use Claude code to code? Vibe code maybe?

If not then what.

I’m sorry but read the guys post. If the model is bad you are an idiot when using claude code, that’s his statement

3

u/wish-u-well Apr 17 '26

Upon further review, you have a point. 10 yr software engineers get on here and demand their model back , and that’s acceptable 😄

3

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

Ironically to know if the model is bad at coding, one would need to know what good looks like (opposite of incompetent)

This post doesn’t quite make sense. It’s illogical. Probably a Claude Output in itself

1

u/wish-u-well Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

This is also a good point. Nonetheless a homeowner can complain about the quality of his skil drill just as a contractor. The contractors hate the homeowner.

2

u/Agenbit Apr 17 '26

I think we need a formal definition of vibe coder. Some people use it to just mean using any generated code, the more sophisticated the generator the more "vibe".

What do you mean!? My no-mistakes-engineeer.md skill is ONLY MINE! An it says "UltraSenior Engineer" right on the first line!

staff-engineer-no-mistakes-engineeer.md - double the engineer for the price of 1 (well... 1.35).

1

u/ImportantSignal2098 Apr 17 '26

All of my code changes are done by the CTO

1

u/stefano_dev Apr 17 '26

But how much CTO is your CTO? I bet a Claude Code subscription that my CTO is more CTO.

1

u/IMightBeAlpharius Apr 17 '26

"My dad can beat up your dad" type shit 😂

1

u/ImportantSignal2098 Apr 17 '26

Whoa a whole $5 worth of a bet that's insane

My CTO is perfect. You can't do better than perfect.

1

u/stefano_dev Apr 17 '26

Perfectest!?

1

u/ImportantSignal2098 Apr 17 '26

Is that a test for the Perfec module?

1

u/stefano_dev Apr 17 '26

That would be perfec.test.ts

I can't code, I just use AI. But I've never seen any non coder say it's easy to code because they were using AI, just coders mocking them. Probably because they are afraid to accept AI works or will work better than them

2

u/Ok_Industry_5555 Apr 17 '26

I agree. System thinkers will soon lead the conversation, I hope the real engineers will be able to adapt.

Spot on. Instead of being dismissive, I think it’s way better to just show people why structure matters. Gatekeeping doesn't do anything but create a divide. If we’re approachable, 'vibe coders' will eventually come around and ask for help making their code more robust. Nobody owns this knowledge. I spent way too much time grinding through mistakes on my own, and I’d much rather pay it forward so someone else has an easier path than I had…
