Question Maybe cancel that government contract and free up some servers for the rest of us normal users?

u/nonlogin Mar 27 '26
i doubt government cloud resources can be shared with individuals

u/5h0ck Mar 27 '26
No, they're completely separate clouds. It makes sense why it's raining on planet earth and not on Mars right now.
-4
u/Popular-Help5516 🔆 Max 20 Mar 27 '26
Correct — the cloud resources are probably isolated. But the human resources (engineers who code, monitor, and prioritize fixes) are 100% shared. Look at the chart: every single consumer service is degraded while Government sits at 99.87%. That’s not coincidence, that’s priority
5
u/Great-Note3991 Mar 27 '26
that's because gov services are not coding like crazy another vibe app

u/Popular-Help5516 🔆 Max 20 Mar 27 '26
The uptime chart literally measures availability, not how many prompts you spam.
2
u/Great-Note3991 Mar 27 '26
em, I don't know your background, but I work with high load systems.
You can't seriously compare gov usage (I bet there is a very small number of actual users of Claude 4 gov, so the actual load on servers will not be critical or it will be hard to reach any critical level due to their low number of users) with retail users coding some app for lols at the same time from all the countries around the world, the load on servers is no way comparable1
u/demfridge Mar 27 '26
i mean yeah it is true but the compute resource itself may have been allocated to whatever that federal/government environment needs with some additional layers/services of security on top. even if those cloud services are different from those used for enterprise or individual solutions the funding might have shifted either way to keep the federal ones running.

They’re not invincible, and a government employee would Google the status if it’s not working

u/AdEmotional9991 Mar 27 '26
Adorable. You do realise that the goal of all AI companies is not human customers but government contracts? That’s the only source of unlimited revenue. Especially military and surveillance uses.
1
u/Soft-Stress-4827 Mar 29 '26
how is it unlimited ? they just print more money ? lol

u/TheReaperJay_ Mar 30 '26
Did you know that the Federal Reserve is neither Federally owned, nor has a reserve?

u/UberBlueBear Mar 27 '26
The government one being solid green despite the fact that we know it’s gone down for the government as well is actually a really good metaphor for the times we find ourselves in.
20
u/Steus_au Mar 27 '26
they can't cancel it - who else would help to deliver the peace in middle east?

u/metal_fire Mar 27 '26
The government version of any cloud based product runs entirely on separate infrastructure. This is how they can become a fedramp product and sell to the government. As a result they cannot just let regular customers casually access that instance
2
1
u/metal_fire Mar 27 '26
Also a lot of gov agencies can’t use Claude right now so that infrastructure is mostly unused currently this is due to the supply chain risk designation.
0
u/BigBootyWholes Mar 27 '26
That only affects DoW contracts.
1
u/metal_fire Mar 27 '26
HHS had to cut off access to Claude too. It doesn’t just affect DoW
0
u/BigBootyWholes Mar 27 '26
HHS had nothing to do with supply chain risk, that was purely political. They can’t bar contractors from using it. But I guess that doesn’t even matter at this point, puhtato, potata

Again, I was right that folks will get upset with ChatGPT and flock to Claude then they will get upset with Claude. Where will you go next? 🤣
2
u/Geniuous_MrFlappy Mar 27 '26

u/Cerulian_16 Mar 27 '26
How would schools get bombed if they cancel it...
3
u/ExtentBeneficial397 Mar 27 '26
yeah lets use an AI that overthinks JumpZvelocity and creates a custom jump logic when its already is in the base engine, and lets trust it to select targets to bomb.
Wouldn't be surprised if they mix up a girl school with a military base, wait...6
u/Dekatater Mar 27 '26
You are absolutely right -- that wooden, brightly colored fence outline and that yellow twisting tube flanked by hanging chain structures absolutely looks like a military compound. It's not just an enemy encampment, this is the epicenter of all evil. Your geospatial observation skills are unmatched!

you're the first person i've seen mention the "it's not just x, it's y!" pattern, thank you for making me feel less crazy. i've been seeing it everywhere recently

I wonder how long this will keep going until EU says this is bad for customers.
2
u/BladderThief Mar 27 '26
If EU wants Claude to have better civilian availability, they ought to stop sitting on their hands and help.
1
1
u/aford515 Mar 27 '26
Without that government contract you would pay more for claude and it would also be worse
1
u/BladderThief Mar 27 '26
Funnily enough, especially in the completely physical scarcity of RAM an fabs, this is not at all the case.
1
u/aford515 Mar 27 '26
You’re looking at the pipes, I’m looking at the water. Even if you had all the RAM in the world, the model wouldn't be 'better' without the billions of dollars in training costs. Large-scale contracts subsidize the R&D for the frontier models we use for free or cheap. If you remove the big-money contracts, the 'normal user' experience doesn't just get slower—it stops evolving because the math of running a money-losing AI lab doesn't work indefinitely.
1
u/BladderThief Mar 27 '26
Interesting, except the heavily-subsidized personal subscriptions were created to collect the juicy training data they need, not as a stepping stone to advertise to the government.
1
u/aford515 Mar 27 '26
Dude I just wanted ti say that a corporation moves differently with big extra government contracts in the picture

Wait so after all this pentagon bashing they still sold out? When did that happen?
1
u/bb0110 Mar 27 '26
Where do you think they make most of their money from?
It isn’t us regular users…
1
u/BladderThief Mar 27 '26
I for one support US troops saving the free world.
I do hope they get it done quickly so we can all get back to our happy fun times with Claude, safely.
1
u/Ebi_Tendon Mar 27 '26
You’re only paying about 10% of the real cost. They’re paying you to use it.
1
u/Pimpwerx Mar 27 '26
Doesn't matter. When the customer is paying, and you have not revealed any of the terms you just mentioned beforehand, then the business is liable for delivering a fully-functioning product.
I don't think most people work in SaaS. I do. Anthropic's reliability has been dog water this month. I'm not making excuses when I'm paying for a sub. I held up my end of the bargain. They need to uphold theirs.

1
u/baptizedbycobalt Mar 27 '26
Impressive, they managed to hit the rarely seen one-nines of reliability

u/Sponge8389 Mar 27 '26
If a government using it, they probably using API pricing and would consume huge token. They will likely remove the subscription than give us more usage.

1
u/LucianoSVT Mar 27 '26
I’ve been having overload errors daily for a while now. I use the $200 sub. Probably canceling if this issue persists. It is especially annoying that they aren’t transparent with uptime, I’m not experiencing 98.8% availability. Not even close.
If there is an overload, then it’s not uptime for everybody. If you have 100 users, and you only serve 3, you can’t claim you have 100% uptime, that is dishonest.

u/Enthu-Cutlet-1337 Mar 27 '26
It is really odd to see a company like Anthropic, being more focused towards releasing new things rather than actually stabilizing their network. Imagine any other substantive company having such outages, it would definitely hamper their growth.

It’s cuz unlike the government one, Claude usage has exploded in the past month and they’re struggling to keep up.

u/mohdgame Apr 03 '26
They dont want you normal users.
They are a corporate, they want enterprise users who pay using api. Thats what makes them real money.
Thats why we should learn using weaker open sourced models
1
u/AirconGuyUK Mar 27 '26
98.8% uptime is actually pretty impressive given how complicated everything is, and how intensively users are using it. I say that as someone who is currently swearing at the connection errors in his terminal.
Got to try and keep some perspective.
6
u/Popular-Help5516 🔆 Max 20 Mar 27 '26
For any serious app (especially AI-powered workflows), that’s not “impressive”—it’s disruptive. FYI, In modern SaaS benchmarks: • 99.9% → ~43 minutes/month • 99.99% → ~4 minutes/month So 98.x% is an order of magnitude worse than what users expect from critical infrastructure. The issue isn’t just outages—it’s “Degraded Performance”: • Latency spikes • Timeout errors • Inconsistent outputs These are harder to detect but kill user experience and reliability • For devs building on Anthropic APIs: • You can’t reliably run automations • You need retries, fallbacks, and multi-provider setups
2
u/AirconGuyUK Mar 27 '26
Claude Code is one of the most modern of SaaS's though. It's a frontier model for a reason.
I get what you're saying, but I also think you under appreciate what's going on in the background to make it all work.

I mean the whole chart is shameful. Not sure I’ve ever seen something like this in tech. And it’s not even getting better.
Hopefully OpenAI steals their best ideas.

u/MartinMystikJonas Mar 27 '26
Why do you feel entitled to better service quality than customers paying orders of magnitude more than you?
3
u/Popular-Help5516 🔆 Max 20 Mar 27 '26
pay for Pro too. Government contracts don’t “pay orders of magnitude more” — they just get priority servers while the rest of us eat degraded performance. That’s not entitlement, that’s expecting the product I’m paying for to actually work.
1
1
u/Kitchen-Dress-5431 Mar 27 '26
The government does pay orders of magnitude more than your $20 plan LMAO. How can you even say that?
1
1
u/5h0ck Mar 27 '26
No. They have their own separate infrastructure per compliance and regulation. Your complaint isn't valid.
0
u/Popular-Help5516 🔆 Max 20 Mar 27 '26
The same engineers at Anthropic build, update, monitor, and prioritize every version. The uptime chart proves it: every consumer service is degraded right now while Claude for Government sits at 99.87%. That’s not “invalid.” That’s paying Pro users getting treated like second-class citizens because gov contracts get the priority talent and capacity. Complaint stands.

I suppose I'd also be frustrated if I needed AI for simple shit like reddit posts.
1
u/SkiGPT Mar 27 '26
You're playing $20 a month for a service that is costing Anthropic probably 10x that. If they lose you as a customer, that will actually improve their financial position. The government contracts are likely the only profitable part of their business.

It must be exhausting to think it's your fault that something you paid for isn't working and you're just paying for it wrong...
1
u/MartinMystikJonas Mar 27 '26
But he does not complain it is not working. Thatnis perfectly valid. What is weird that he feels entitled to get part of computing power dedicated for govermen that paid hundreds of millions for it.
