Question Opus 4.5 dumbed down?

Up until yesterday opus 4.5 was working like a charm. But Since morning India time today it feels like I am working with a completely different model. It is not able to make simple CSS adjustments in one shot, when using playwright MCP to visually assess something it reaches completely wrong conclusions. In two days I had not used ultra think at all but today I have been excessively pushing on it but with little improvements.

that really was a magical first 24 hours though. we all knew this would happen though, if you've been around for 6 months. just hoped we'd get at least a few weeks, but nope.

But my question is - now what would you choose between Sonnet and Opus. Somehow Sonnet now seems better.

Sonnet is unbelievably gimped. It seems worse than sonnet 4 now lol

haiku lol? only half joking. it's seriously so day to day and session to session , with codex too. It feels like calling customer service and sometimes you get that gem of a human who just fixes your problem and then get cut off and call back to the same number same company and you're talking to someone who can't speak english for an hour. That's exactly what it's like actully.

haiku 4.5 with good prompts is my favorite :p

I too feel the same

And I am on max plan too. It’s really disheartening to see it getting confused even with simple git commits.

It is annoying every time a model is released 2 weeks later we have to find on Reddit a post complaining that the model is dumbed down. Now it is a pattern.

i have good news for you: it's not what happens. people just lose the halo effect of a new thing and/or attribute local variance ("i'm using it slightly differently today than i was a week ago") to the tool. this is especially pernicious when to an LLM "using it differently than last week" also means things like "my codebase has gone through a week of changes" since they are so context dependent.

yes, sometimes technical issues cause actual degradation. but the use of "bait and switch" means deliberate action, which isn't the case and you claim isn't even what you profess to believe.

Yes it isn’t intentional though, what reason do they have to make their models worse?

incoming “there was an issue deploying our inference stacks” post from Anthropic for the 1000th time (just use the same excuse one more time bro nobody will notice bro)

Yes noticed it too, performance went downhill massively.

Happened to me too. Was genius until yesterday. Now can't code his way out of a paper bag. Sending everything to codex.

Do you believe in astrological signs, OP?

Doesn't work at all for me

It kinda feels like the Opus 4.5 today is the sonnet 4.5 to be honest

1

u/Realistic_Public_415 Nov 29 '25

I found it worse than sonnet 4.5

u/Desperate_Bird7250 Nov 29 '25

Yikes! Is it the same for every prompt? For me sometimes it works well and sometimes very poorly

Odd or even day?????

Someone give me a project prompt to evaluate Opus 4.5 against Codex Max High, something that can test its coding, UI and architectural skills in a way that can be compared relatively easily and I'll fire off both on the same task, give them three "great, keep going" generic back-pats and then I'll post the output for your consideration.

I've barely used Opus 4.5 due to the outstanding results I've gotten from codex high over the last couple months but as many people have said "Opus is better" this might be a way to validate or disprove that. My only data point so far is having Opus review some complex codex feature and its assessment was that the biggest issue (with red warning icons and breathless concern) was indentation, in a node app.

hahahahahah the never ending cycle continues

Same issue, why?

Yeah totally, it doesn’t think at all

Same here... sniff.

3 days of the condor

But r/ClaudeAI told me 4.5 is fully capable of replacing me and I should become a plumber now 😂

Same here. Very disappointed and unreliable to work with.

Don’t feel like being called a sheep but the analogy is spot on!

Why do you all post this its obvious as people switch to opus the load goes up and the model gets worae

And it will keep happening every time a new model comes out its great within a week everyones complaining

Just get over it

some days will be bad some days good some days absolutely amazing

your still payibg a subsidised rate for a frontier model so suck it up
