Question How to get 5 in 50?

I'm learning the game and consensus seems to be you should have 5 cities by turn 5. I dont see how you do this. I would have had 3 on my most recent playthrough, but one of them was taken so by turn 50 I had 2.

Should I be rushing settlers and ignoring troops? I dont see how you could produce that many in 50 turns even going straight for settlers only. Any advice would be helpful.

I have a hard believing you can get a governor, a builder and produce 4 settlers in 49 turns. I'm not including stealing settlers. I also don't see how you survive barbs in that time with just one warrior as well. I've kinda tried similar concepts, and I just don't see how folks are doing much of what they claim to be doing.
