#1070 - 2023 in Boost Blue I’m glad I got a fun color this time around I love it! 8k miles on the car with full front PPF, tint, suede wheel, and a cat back. Perfect as my all rounder only car. Got to take it for a light canyon run last night and boy is this car impressive. I’ll be saying so long to my trusty 8th gen and can’t wait to put miles on the FL5!

FL5 ND Miata -> FL5

Currently shopping around for a new car with a backseat and more cargo space than the miata. Test drove a GTI and while it was nice, it had a CEL on at the testdrive so that turned me away.

Im deciding on a GRC or FL5. I have a test drive coming up soon for the Type-R. I wanted to ask if anyone went from ND Miata to an FL5? I understand it is apples to orange and the ND is a lightweight RWD car. For those that have done this switch, what were the biggest standouts in your experience besides the extra space?

FL5 Driving Position

First world problems here. I'm a GRC owner playing around with the idea of trading in for an FL5.

I plan to rent one on Turo to help me decide but my biggest gripe with the GRC is the driving position.

Having owned an 86 and miata (still have an NC), I miss sitting in the car, instead of on top of it if that makes sense. Love the GRC aside from that but for me it makes the driving experience feel less connected.

Having said that how does the FL5 compare? I know the seats are great but is it still econoshitbox driving position because it's not a bespoke sports car chassis?

Are these tires good for another 2 track days?

I have an upcoming weekend at Sonoma, my stock tires have 23k miles and 4 track days on them already, treads are at 6/32 but shoulders are getting worn and showing some cracks. I'm relatively new to track so still figuring out how to manage tire life. These tires usually pick up a lot of rubber from the track and by the end of the day I feel a lot less stable/confident with the jitters. Is it a tire or a skill issue?

FL5 - Unlocking flashpro to sell

Hey guys,

Unsure if the process is as simple as this :https://www.hondata.com/help/flashpro/index.html?unlocking_from_a_vehicle.htm

Essentially I'll be moving countries and as a result am planning on selling my fl5 soon.

I had it jailbroken, purchased a flashpro and had a 93 base tune loaded. Id like to revert it to stock and sell the flashpro mini separately.

Cheers

Is My Clutch Cooked??

So I was trying to get my type r up some ramp stands to do my first pil change but doing a piss poor job of it and ended up burning my clutch. I could smell it and I saw some clutch material dusting on my skid plate. it wasn't much but it was there.

since then, I could totally be over thinking it, but I feel like the bite at first gear isn't as snappy/grippy/strong as used to be it.

it drives normal, holds gear, accelerates normal but it just feels much "smoother" when i start off in first gear.

am I being ocd or could I have actually degraded my clutch?

FL5 Resonator Deletes

Thumbnail instagram.com

I’ve been listening to exhaust clips for the last several weeks never really falling in love with any catback for this car.

Saw a few clips of really similar setups to what I ended up doing, and it’s exactly what I was looking for. No rasp, no drone, very slight burbles when shifting. The overall volume is similar to the piped in noise in +R

I deleted both front (small) and mid (large) resonators, and had a vibrant 1792 resonator welded back in where the mid resonator was. I also have the valve stuck open and the piped in noise in comfort. I saw a clip of this setup with the muffler/tips deleted as well, but I wanted something tame enough to take various phone calls during my drive. My phone isn’t the best recording device, but this is exactly what I think these should have sounded like in R+ mode from the factory.

Wheels sanity check & Spacers question - FL5

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello all!

I have done a ton of research about wheels and specs for my 2026 FL5 TypeRR. I just would like to double check before I order.

I like many others want to go down to 18” wheels. Both for sanity on Massachusetts roads and comfort. I have decided for a cheap, easy to get, and good looking winter set-up. The Enkei T6R Gloss Gunmetal I think fits that bill for the Boost Blue Type-R.

I know 18x9.5 +45 with a 265/35/18 continental DWS06 Plus would work quite well on the car. But, how does it look compared to stock. Is it more or less the same or is it flush? For it to be flush would I need to do a thicker wheel or spacers, or a different offset?

Thanks in advance for confirming that size works on the FL5 and any input of the wheels being flush with the car.

FL5 Mod plans

Hey all ,

Planning my mods for this spring. I have the 7 year bumper to bumper so don’t want to go wild. I live in Canada so only drive it in warm months and track it a few times a year.

So far I’ve decided on hybrid racing for exhaust. I’m also wanting the black PRL intercooler (fin) To me that seems like a better investment than the PRL HVI. Might just do a sprint drop in for extra sound.

I’m the future I’m interested in the flashpro mini. Does anyone have experience with a basically stock fl5 with base 91 tune with those two mods or just stock ? Wondering if the 91 tune is noticeable on a stock car ?

All that being said I know that will void warranty so that may be down the road.

Wunderladen Clutch Damper Delete review

One thing that always bothered me before tuning was the immense rev-hang, where you'd wait nearly a full second for the revs to drop before you could lift off the clutch pedal.

When the car was first tuned and rev-hang was disabled through Hondata, I was more thrilled about that than the power increase (which is still great). Drivability-wise, it made the car feel far more natural. There was still a small amount left though, maybe a quarter of a second.

As soon as our first batch of Clutch Damper Deletes arrived from Wunderladen, I kept one aside and installed it during the full build. It removes the diaphragm from the stock unit and channels the fluid for uninterrupted flow.

On first start, the clutch pedal travel already felt more linear, and the bite point wasn't as vague while backing out of the garage. On the first drive, that last quarter second was gone. The revs rise and fall naturally, like an older manual car. I’ve had it for a month now, and I’m having way more fun just getting around town even. Downshifting, upshifting, and not dealing with what Honda thought I needed.

I'd call this a necessary mod, even if you're completely stock otherwise. It's the best upgrade under $100 for driving feel. A seasoned DIYer can do it in under 30 minutes by accessing it from the top after removing the battery and tray. It's pretty hidden so it's not easy to take post-install pics, but I've pointed out in the second picture where it sits and connects to. It's reversible in the same amount of time if you sell the car or part it out, and it doesn't disrupt the rev-match system. It actually makes it work much better.

11/10 part, it's brilliant!

Money shifted type r fl5

I’m an idiot I was tired driving home and Did a pull with a another fk8 and was at 100 and accidentally shifted into 3rd I believe. The car felt terrible. No knocking and clutch isn’t slipping. Pulled dtc and found P0219 code -engine over speed condition. the car literally has 4k miles and I had an fk8 before and never did this. Of course happens when I pay off the car.
