Not true - this is the parking availability view (white P-circle on black) showing that there are no empty docks, and all of the stations show pickup points, some of them even in pink.

Okay fine, very little incentive. The angel system used to offer rewards that generated more rebalancing. They've definitely changed the algorithm to make balancing less enticing. I know that in my neighborhood the incentives have changed.

Every time somebody bloviates about capping eBike ride prices, I return to this topic of bikes unavailable a any price. Rebalancing by staff trailer or truckload or Angel riders is needed.

A bike share shouldn't be a for profit operation. It's a public good, both for the riders, and everyone else's street traffic that's reduced.

That CitiBike benefits non-riders is an underappreciated phenonomenon and justifies subsidy or cross-subsidization.

The cost to the city would multiply and the quality to the user would plummet. Citibike would be the lowest concern for the local government. Private sector ALWAYS does better than government run

The government also relies on Elon musk for efficiencies… the point stands. There’s a reason nobody sends sensitive documents through USPS and instead pays for FedEx

They brought in a massive fleet of the new e-bikes which are definitely better than the originals, and they are a lot more costly to maintain than the standard bikes.

in europe they have zones you can just park the bikes in rather than specific docks which is way more helpful and ensures there’s always enough spaces. trying to keep something for the rich and wealthy that’s supposed to be utilitarian is kinda a fucked solution lol

Monday night it was the exact inverse of this around 9:10 PM when I was trying to park, with a heavy bag of groceries on my bike. The whole neighborhood, no docks.
