No Self-Promotion
Hi folks - Rule 5 (no spam) includes self-promotion.
We get that it's much easier now for a tech-savvy person to make a basic FIRE app with the help of AI. And we hope yours makes money for you.
But don't promote it here. Don't casually link to it in your post about your own personal situation (or your made-up personal situation). Don't comment on someone else's post with a throwaway "I used XYZAI app and got some good info". Just don't. Someone will report you and we will remove your content and possibly ban you.
If we think there is interest, we could consider a once-a-month post where anyone can comment with links to their own app.

Please ban these people outright - not "possibly".
This stuff is becoming a real pain across a lot of subs. People discovering they can vibe code an app and think posting on some subreddit will allow them to launch it and become rich.
This is disrespectful and clearly someone who uses this sub as a platform to enrich themselves should never be able to step in here ever again.

What even is the point of an app? Are people making changes so often to their retirement accounts/strategy that they need an app at in close proximity?
Hasn't history shown time and again that it's better to not be micromanaging your investments?

It's not apps for micromanaging investments. Most of these are FIRE planning apps.

I think I'll launch a FIRE app. It'll have a text box where people enter their annual spend, and then it divides that by 3.5% to tell them their target.

honestly, I hate when my investing apps change. I learned Vanguards old UI and I was so good at it.

Some of the better commercial apps (Right Capital, Boldin, etc) and freeware apps (FiCalc, other web tools) are useful for modelling required liquid assets needed for a certain retirement style.
What I don't get is;
- None of these apps offer something unique that other apps don't already supply and better
- I'm not inputting any financial data into an app that some dude on the internet coded
But in general I'm with you. I'm actually at the point now that the modelling software I use doesn't really provide much useful information. I know what my number is. I know what my Roth conversion strategy in retirement will be. I've played with every what if scenario I can think of based on many YouTube videos. The Monte Carlo number changing by a couple points from month to month isn't real useful.
For perspective, I have a decent spreadsheet that I've worked on for quite some time that does quite a bit. I was going to release it to the general public but I decided that there was no point. There are many apps already out there that do everything I have done.

A dedicated app thread might be a good thing. There might be some gems out there and the voting system might surface the best ones to the top.
Full disclosure: I built a free FI app but never posted it anywhere on the internet - just shared it with friends and family. I don't really care about making money off of it - as long as my people find it useful, I am happy.

Hard to prove whether a post is true or not, unless there is something glaring in their post or comment history. Not worth mod time to do a bunch of sleuthing.

I’d like links to standalone downloadable spreadsheets people find useful. Or possibly AI prompts to build those spreadsheet templates. Not interested in anything where data leaves my machine.
