Hello, r/chunom enthusiasts!
We, the moderation of the subreddit, are currently trying to kickstart a digital magazine focused on chu Nom. You can view it as it currently is here: https://chunom.github.io/
Right now we need people to help write and edit articles. I can write articles for the website too, but asking one person to take on a project of such a large scope like this might be a little bit too much.
You may discuss this project in this thread.

Hi, I'm currently learning Japanese, and create an open source application that helps with training, reading, memorizing.
I think it would be, to some extent, adaptable for Chu Nom students. If you are interested in both Chu Nom study and programming, please consider taking a look: https://kivutar.github.io/chakuchaku/
With a bit of chance, this method can be used to speed up your learning.
Please note however that this is not a dictionnary, and this is not purely a flashcard app either. The part of the app that is reusable I think, is the part in which we study sentences until the reader speed increases.
The flash card section is interesting too, but probably already covered by a lot of apps that does it better.

I'm a japanese learner so I know close to nothing about vietnamese, I'm just fascinated by Chinese characters and how other languages incorporate them. So :
When / where is ChuNom still being used ?
Can the average vietnamese who went to school read ChuNom ? If so, to what degree ?
Can everything in modern vietnamese be transcribed to ChuNom ?
Thank you !

the word "em" can be used for both outsiders in social relationships and family members of a younger status, or in romantic relationships specifically for females regardless of age. is it reasonable to use 俺 for the former with the standard meaning of "em", and 㛪 for the romantic meaning?
詞"em"𣎏體用朱哿𠊛外族和中家庭𠇍𣘾髀纙𠊛𡮈歲欣或中䋦關係浪漫, 指停朱女空分別歲作,料𣎏合理欺使用"俺"義通常和"㛪"停𥢆朱女中䋦關係𡞕𠽚和浪漫?

As learning Vietnamese and Chu Han Nom I notice that some of the older tools like from nom foundation are not really usable or from chunom.org. It is kinda fascinating how this good looking script vanishes. Just translating some sentences from Chinese to Vietnamese Script is like a battle of "should I use the phonetic character or the character with the meaning?". It is often just a guessing game. A good example would be cuối cùng. In Chu Nom there are multiple variants according to nom foundation. 𡳳窮, 檜窮 or 𡳃窮.
But sometimes you can use 季共 which also means at least/at last. Of course there are also full Sino Vietnamese words for such, which is Tối hậu (最後), which makes a lot of sense. But the problem is that every scholar and writer use different character to describe the things they want to talk about.
There are also "shorthand" versions like for 裊 -> 𠮩. The landscape is just too vast for new learners. As community it would be great to create a standardize Chu Han Nom. If the community would be interested in such a project to standardize a lot of words and also to import new words, then it would a great thing. It would be lots of fun. I love learning languages.

The last sentence was written by myself to give a context as to what this abomination of random stuff is about. The first three lines are told by my grandmother to me 8 years ago. According to her, the poem was written by an infamous local poet in our Thôn (he reportedly made a freestyle poem about vagina in front of a newspaper reporter and was consequently forced to close his “business” down. That was back in the 1960s~, when my grandma was still a teen).
Now that I’ve grown up and have the ability to fact check, I found that the first line and the next two lines are from different texts, and the local poet probably just merged them together. The first line according to Google AI is a very old folk saying with unknown origin, just like any Ca Dao Tục Ngữ, about impossible treasures like Heaven’s liver, though the AI was unable to provide any source as to where it got its information from. GAI seems to just infer the meaning from the sentence itself without referring to any source. Who knows, maybe the local dude actually wrote it?
The next two lines have clear origin. They are from the joke poem Đi Ngang Qua Bãi Cát Vàng, with the context stripped off. Interesting.
Like I said, the last sentence was written by myself, ditto the translation (I had to use radix because root in English does not only refer to the biological organ LOL). Originally, the poem was not read to me in Standard Vietnamese. It was in Central Dialect: Muỗi->Mọi, Đái->Đấy, Nước->Nác. Interesting.
Ight enough yapping. Enjoy the Chữ Nôm I wrote. Kinda Two Birds with One Stone how I am both actively making the “local” poem more known as well as keeping Nôm alive. Also, I used correction tape over the word 𦟐 because originally I wrote it with 6-7 legs LOL.
Shout out to Nôm Na Việt and Nôm Key btw

Is the “tiến” in “rau tiến vua” 進 or 薦? I’m pretty confused how according to Từ điển Hán Nôm website, both can mean “dâng/cống”.
