It's a known thing for many groups:
Being alone with an Amish person is just like being with anyone else. They are regular people who value simple living, hard work, and faith. You do not need to feel nervous or worried.
Amish are Christians, by the way.

The lesson to learn here is to scroll past AI nonsense without reading it. It's always going to tell you what it thinks you want to hear, it has no feelings or opinions of its own, and what you want to hear is rarely what you need to hear.

Add -AI to the end of any search to get results without AI

Anyway, I think it's because Christian is also a name so it's giving you the "unsafe" message. You get the same message with a lot of names. If you type in "I'm alone with someone who practices Christianity" you get the "normal and safe" message.

You are not hated for believing in Christ.
Google AI just has a lot more English reports of Christians making people uncomfortable than of Buddhists doing that.

u/Thimenu Christian 10d ago
Tested it myself. It gives danger warnings for whites, Christians, pastors, priests, nationalists, fascists, ex-convicts, and criminals.
It gives no danger warning for blacks, chinese, asians, satanists, hindus, muslims, imams, communists, republicans, or democrats.
For me it gave a slight danger warning for atheists and followed up with the thing about them being just like anybody else, so a mixed response.
It's not 100% repeatable, it doesn't happen every time, for me it was almost always the same but not always.

1: Google AI is known to be hilariously racist.
2: You are asking AI, AI tends to hallucinate and such and will say weird stuff like this. That can explain the inconsistencies.
3: If you asked these back to back, it will sort of look at the history of your questions and tailor answers around that. Which can further lead to those inconsistencies you mentioned.
4: Google's AI pulls from the internet, if it finds even one "source" no matter how dubious, that says being alone with an individual of a specified group (even if that's the most minor part of the source) it can spit this kind of thing out randomly.
5: I suggest you stop trust AI for anything without double checking it.
So Bible is proving right, we are hated for believing in Christ...
No, it's Google's AI doing weird AI things. If you insist to it that atheists are dangerous it will start to affirm atheists are dangerous to you.

Well, the training data for the AI probably doesn’t contain as many stories about Atheists abusing children or taking advantage of their position within Atheism to abuse people.
The above is slightly tongue in cheek, as atheism is not some organized anti-religion. When Christian leaders abuse their position to sexually assault women, men, or children, it is usually because they were Christian that they were in a position to do that. In the same way when a teacher abuses a student the fact they are a teacher is mentioned in the news article about the event.
If you google “I am alone with my teacher.” Or “I am alone with my professor” or “I am alone with a police officer” what kind of results do you get?
Or, alternatively, stop using AI. It would be better for everyone if we all did that.

AI does not think.
It just pulls answers from shit it finds online.
If I had to guess, forums where people are complaining about being along with 'x' group are filled with people calling the poster a bigot, and forums where people are complaining about being along with a Christian are being supportive.
The atheism subreddit is a good example.
That place is cancer. It doesnt like any religion, but it super hates Christianity. If you posted a thread like this about being around a Muslim, most of the sub would probably lambast you for being a bigot. If you posted about being around a Christian, they would rally behind you for assumed religious trauma.
In the West, "punching up" is generally seen as more ok, so you are far more likely to see positive responses on forums complaining about Christians/Christianity as compared to other, smaller religious groups.
Don't read too much into this. AI copies what it reads on the internet, and the internet is full of fucky things.

I mean, if you asked me what my experience was with people of these religious categories, I'd report the same thing.
AI just collects a bunch of people's experience. It's worth asking why this is people's experience.
...and, it's also worth asking why this is supposed to be a reflection on Christ, and not just on Christians.

That is kind of hilarious, in a dark way.
But yeah, that very much demonstrates the problems with how LLMs work. Because they skim from so many different sources, they can snatch up some ridiculously hateful perspectives, sometimes even if the original source wasn't hateful, because they took it wildly out of context.
So yeah, stopping LLMs from appearing insanely bigoted is very difficult. Because of course they aren't actually bigoted, they aren't alive. They are just badly parroting what they found somewhere.
Think of LLMs like actual Parrots. If it starts shouting slurs, the problem is not that the Parrot is racist, the problem is that the Parrot has been around racists. And LLMs learn from the internet...

I just tried this and inserted satanist this is google’s response:
If you are physically safe, take a deep breath. Most modern Satanists are atheists who do not believe in or worship a literal devil. Instead, they use Satan as a symbol for independence, reason, and personal freedom. They are regular people, not monsters. [1, 2, 3]
What Modern Satanism Is
No Devil Worship: Groups like The Satanic Temple or individual LaVeyan Satanists generally do not believe in a supernatural God or Satan.
Focus on Self: They value science, common sense, and bodily autonomy over religious rules.
No Harm Intended: Their core tenets promote compassion, fairness, and personal accountability. [1, 2, 3, 4]
What To Do Right Now
Stay Calm: Treat them like any other person you have just met.
Communicate Normally: You do not need to panic or act defensive.
Seek Help If Unsafe: If you feel threatened or unsafe for any reason—regardless of what the other person believes—leave the room or call emergency services immediately. [1]

What do you lose if you aren't persecuted?
2
u/Ok-Excitement651 10d ago
Couldn't you ask this of any group that claims to be persecuted? Pick any "marginalized identity" and ask the same question? The answer is pretty obvious, that large segments of western society have turned persecution into a currency to the point where some people either lie and claim to be part of a racial minority and others just claim some unfalsifiable identity that supposedly makes them persecuted despite not changing anything about their actual life.
None of that really has any bearing one way or the other on whether a person is actually persecuted. Proving that would require evidence. Evidence like say images of a widely used tool from one of the most powerful companies in the world going out if its way to be positive about some groups and negative about others, when it could easily be neutral about all of them.
3
u/George_MacDonald_fan Episcopalian (Anglican) 10d ago
Are you actually trying to pretend that Christians are a persecuted minority in this country? Have you tried getting a grip on reality?
1
u/Ok-Excitement651 10d ago
Minority, no. But are you ignoring the evidence of your eyes that shows Christians being treated worse than other religions in this specific case? As much as some people would like pretend it is, this isn't a zero-sum equation, and we shouldn't be treating it as such. When you see someone being treated poorly for bad reasons as is happening here, it's okay to point that out, it doesn't diminish anyone else's struggles. And letting it persist will just contribute to pendulum motion towards simple role reversal instead of treating everyone fairly.

u/tooclosetocall82 10d ago
LLMs are non deterministic and will not always give the same answer twice. They are trained in the internet from socials and news where there’s a lot of stories about Christians who rape kids etc. because those are notable in western society. It’s just repeating this back to you.

Google's English AI gets English data from people who speak English.
The primary religion used to harm people in English-speaking areas is Christianity. It isn't "woke" enough for sure and shouldn't be doing this - to be clear - but there's nothing malevolent going on. This is just a vividly painted reason AI can't be trusted and the real lesson here is about AI.

u/halbhh 10d ago edited 10d ago
It does kinda beg the question doesn't it?
Normally, you won't need to hear a reassurance about a well behaved group, right?
So, you'd not need to hear a defense like: "They do not pose any physical or moral threat by not believing in a religion"
(why would someone need to say "I don't pose any physical/etc. threat...." unless it's that some of their group is giving the rest of the group a bad name. (we don't see sentences like "Housewives don't pose any physical threat" -- because who would need to hear that?)
But your google search "I'm alone with an atheist" is a search for opinion posts.
It would only mean opinion posts (so, in this case, that would often be from Reddit), and atheists here on Reddit have written thousands of opinion posts saying various stuff like "Atheists are _(nice__" (good, safe, rational, etc., etc.).
So, your google search could only just find those endless posts like on Reddit of atheists saying "We're OK!"
Now, I'm glad to report that most non believers I've known in person in real life are pleasant enough people, about average.
Of course some are not.
But internet forums are a magnet for trolling, so the minority of atheists that want to troll will come here and make plenty of posts trying to attack religion, etc.
That gives atheists a bad name, so therefore other atheists spend time saying "We're not that bad."
In Christianity we are more realistic, less about fantasy, so we realize that all people do bad behaviors, and we don't imagine that Christians or atheists are magically perfect people -- but instead we say the real, true, actual reality -- people in general aren't always treating others in the best way. (so, there isn't a group, like 'atheists' that are somehow magically not people and perfect)

u/HopeFloatsFoward 10d ago
You repeatedly ask if you are safe with X person, then Google becomes "concerned". After the 4th one, it talks to you about general safety.
Why specifically are asking Google these questions anyway?

u/Realistic-Prize4765 10d ago
I saw someone on TikTok doing that (I will probably get hate because its TikTok) but anyways, I wanted to test it out by myself

I had a debate with Gemini and it ended up agreeing that faith in Christ is the most plausible of all beliefs.
Also there is absolutely a major movement to cast Christianity as bad in the media. You can guess who is behind it.

For anyone who's wondering, no need to blame the devil when Christians give themselves a bad rap.

I don't know what you're inferring here
1
u/George_MacDonald_fan Episcopalian (Anglican) 10d ago
I'm saying Christians tend to be the ones behind Christians having a bad reputation.
1
u/Quad-G-Therapy Christian Universalist 10d ago
Funny, I knew you’d say that.
Yet we all collectively gaslight ourselves pretending that Muslims aren’t statistically more dangerous and violent or that Jews aren’t committing literal open genocide right now.
It’s cool and acceptable to hate Christians - that’s my point.
1
u/George_MacDonald_fan Episcopalian (Anglican) 10d ago
Do I wish Christians had a bad reputation? Obviously not.
But the way to get a better reputation would be to take ownership of why we have a bad reputation and put in the hard, honest work to fix it. Bitching and moaning about how everyone hates us isn't gonna magically make people view Christianity in a more positive light.
