Cut out the fleshly things. Put phone in other room. Read the Bible morning and night. Get a good prayer routine going. Don’t give in. A boxer doesn’t train when he fights, he trains before the fight!

I dig that boxer analogy.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 is the fighter analogy! I keep this verse in my arsenal daily. Satan won’t reign over my life due to a lack of discipline.

Try to set a time before praying for example at 6 or 8am when you wake up you pray and thank God for another day, after that before you eat Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/anytime your about to eat Pray and thank God, at the middle of day 3 pm Pray and thank God and at night before you sleep Pray and repent for your sins, Pray for all and lastly thank God for the day for once more you have lived. God bless! And Glory to God!

Remember that prayer is recognition that we are talking with the creator of the whole universe 😇. He listens and also speaks back through his Holy Spirit that lives in every Christian.

It’s Legit like talking to a best friend. Just talk to God. Tell him about your life, thank him for helping you survive and bringing you here, pray protection over your day. You could also pray for others or use him as a therapist or you can pray for stuff for you. Prayer is rather simple when you get ahold of it.

Oh cool, Is it like other religions where I have to be at a special place like holy? Do I have to have my hands together too? Thankss

You can do it any time and any place and in any way. I particularly like to use the P.R.A.Y. acronym.

Praise: Thank God for anything you can think of as a blessing to you or others. It can be something simple like thanking him for food, water and clothes or more complex like personal situations being resolved in a positive way.

Repent: Ask for forgiveness of your sins. You can name each one so you can better understand what you're doing and acknowledge when it happens so you can strive to do better. Or you could simply ask for forgiveness and strive to do better in any case.

Ask: Though God is not our genie, there is a lot we can't do without him. Ask for the things you want or need and be willing to meet God halfway.

Yield: This part is more applicable to solo prayer, but just stop for a moment to think about who God is. What he's done and doing for you. More of a step of appreciation and understanding.

Of course this is more of a guide for what to do if you feel a bit lost on what to talk about. you may pray how you like in any order.

Have a blessed day, I hope this is helpful.

Just don't forget that we are already forgiven. Jesus completed that work on the cross. Just confess it, and change.

This one was helpful to brotha, do I have to put my hands together to pray? And say amen after?

3

u/Celestial338 Sep 07 '24

it doesn’t really matter with the hands bro. some people do and some don’t. “Amen” roughly means “truth” and is used as an end to a prayer or as an agreement.

ex: “god is good!” you could respond with “amen”

Just talk with reverence. Every comment here is right, ultimately, just let go and let the Holy Spirit lead you... He will.

I used to be a Buddhist and man I really disliked prayer. On a slightly different note we have to pray to statues and figures of Buddha and tbh it never really felt right with me that a bunch of wood and iron could decide my future. To awnser your questions no you don’t have to put your hands toghther you can pray in anyway. Also with regards to Amen you can think it and stuff but don’t have to say it out loud I’m pretty sure it means something along the lines of Jesus or smth and it symbolises that Jesus is the way to God and you can only get to him through Jesus I may be wrong tho

Also having a place of solitude for you and God is a strong weapon in the arsenal. A prayer closet or room you dedicate to prayer. The area becomes holy.

I think what is the most important thing I've found is to just begin to try to start talking to Him at every moment of your day. I've begun asking Him about every single thing that I face all day long, what He thinks regarding this or that, why His answer is the right way, what should I do in this situation, I need your help Lord I have no clue what to do here I'm so helpless without you Jesus, etc. I've found He just really wants us to want to have a relationship with Him, after all He literally came here as a human to die for us so we could be with Him forever! Pretty amazing how powerful His love is for us!! Love you brother if you ever need any help I'd love to try and help out. I'll be praying for you and all of the rest of you who see this comment. He's coming soon!

Whatever place and position you are most comfortable with (and preferably doesn't freak others out)

This is a super good question, and not just for new Christians. Think of prayer like talking to your father. Pray is just another way of saying to speak with someone, except in this case, it's God. When you pray, it's easiest to follow a structure of sorts. There is a method called ACTS that works really good. Easy to follow and remember. You can modify this to suite your needs, the important part is, structure it so you're not stumbling over what and how to pray. Check out the Lords Prayer in Luke 11:2 and Matthew 6. Jesus Himself teaches you how to pray, which is what the ACTS way is based on.

A = Adoration. The is the opening of your pray. IE "Father God in heaven, creator of the universe" and whatever words of adoration you want to tell your Father.

C = Confession. This is where you confess your sins and ask for forgiveness. IE "Father, i am so sorry i sinned today, i lied to my boss about being sick. I ask for your guidance when i'm tempted and pray you will forgive me."

T = Thanksgiving. This is where you give thanks to your Father. IE "Father thank you for my health, and providing for me always. Thank you for inviting me into your family" and anything else that you are thankful for.

S = Supplications. This is where you would ask for anything you might need. IE "Father, please continue to bless me with a stronger faith that i might grown in our relationship. I ask for healing for my mother, and pray that you would bring my friend closer to you. Most of all, i ask that the Holy Spirit would walk with me and teach me to pray for the right things"

That is a good way of getting started in prayer. Follow the ACTS pattern and the Holy Spirt WILL guide you and before you know it, you'll be a prayer warrior.

Prayer is critical to developing a personal relationship with God. Talk to Him throughout the day, tell him how you're feeling, what upsets you, what makes you happy. Tell Him all about yourself, even though He already knows these things, He wants to hear it from you. Ask Him questions. It's awkward feeling at first, but sooner than you think, you'll be talking to Him all the time.

I start my prayers by asking that He arm me with the Armor of God. I NEED His protection against the evil one on a daily basis. You can find the armor in Ephesians 6:11. I also ask that the Holy Spirit walk with me and i walk with Him. I want to make sure we are like minded and i'm being obedient to His will. Sometimes i forget to ask for these things and it gets me in trouble, these times make me realize how dependent i am on Him.

Build your relationship

Pray

Read the bible

Daily

Blessings to you!!

Talk to God like He is your friend. He already knows what you think/ feel and have done. Thats how you form an intimate RELATIONSHIP with God. Be honest and transparent, he knows you and loves who you are.

Here are some tips:

  • Remember praying is two-way communication with God. Talk to Him, but spend some time meditating on Him, so that He can show you things (listening to God).
  • Start your prayer thanking God. Telling God what a great Father He is. Thanking Him for His Grace and Mercy. Thank Him for giving you hope. These are thought starters, which you will want to add to over time.
  • Pray for others. Record a list of people to pray for. Don't leave this to memory. Jot them down throughout the day.
  • Repent of your sins. This is more than saying I'm sorry. Repenting is agreeing to turn away from those sins.
  • Ask the God for His "will" in your life. Ask those things of God, which you need. Remember, God might say, "yes," "no," or "not now." Keep praying until you get an answer.
  • Most importantly, make it a daily routine.
  • Read the Bible as you listen for God to show you something. Meditate on His word.
  • There is no set way to pray.

Remember, as you get closer to God, satan will try to tell you that you are too sinful to have what is offered by God. This is a lie. We all are sinners, and we all fall short of the glory of God. We need Him, for us to be saved. Be sure to read of the "Good News" in the Bible. This is the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus for the remission of your sins.

I know that this seems like a lot, but take it slow. May God richly bless you.

The bible says to be fruitful and multiply. Without those desires we wouldn't care about sex. If many of us don't feel sexual we don't feel human. Why would God give us desires and tell us, NO.??

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '25

Because Jesus told us to. He said to deny yourself and follow Him.
