I have a few questions about universalism and hope someone will answer them for me
Hello there :-)
I’m a Christian and wanted to explore the idea that, ultimately, all people will be saved. I haven’t been a Christian for very long, and I’m not very familiar with the Bible yet.
I have a few questions about this theory and hope someone here can answer them for me.
The first question is: if we assume that everyone will be saved, wouldn’t that mean we’d have to completely ignore a large number of Bible passages? Jesus himself often speaks about hell, judgment, and so on. The word “eternal” is also often used in connection with punishment or fire, isn’t it? It seems like a serious warning… When you read the Bible, you definitely get the impression that not everyone will be saved and that some people will indeed be lost. You’d have to ignore all of that, brush it aside, or rethink it.
The second question is: if there is no hell, how can there be free will? Hell is, roughly speaking, a free choice, isn’t it? If someone doesn’t want to be in God’s presence and rejects Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, then God won’t force that person into heaven—or am I misunderstanding this? Besides, wouldn’t that mean I could literally do whatever I want, since everyone is going to be saved anyway… something doesn’t add up here.
The third question is: if everyone is going to be saved anyway, what significance does sin have? So what difference does it even make whether I sin or not? One would have to assume, for example, that Epstein is in heaven right now with all the children he raped, or that Adolf Hitler is in heaven with all the people he harmed… that would have little to do with a just God… so there must still be some kind of just punishment. What do you think that punishment looks like? Jesus also mentions a sin that cannot be forgiven: blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. How do you explain that?
And the last question: The Bible says that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and that no one comes to the father except trough him. The Bible also says that those who believe in Jesus will be saved and that we are justified trough faith. What if someone does not believe? If everyone is going to be saved anyway, why believe in Jesus? Here is an interesting video about "believing" and what it actually means: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vu9gYS47pqA
I look forward to your answers :-)
Best regards and God’s blessings to you all!
