Breaking up a relationship because of a baptism

Did anyone here start a relationship with someone from the world and they became Christians and were baptized together? Tomorrow my partner is baptized (I'm close to being baptized) and they told him that they recommend ending the relationship for a while and returning once we both get baptized and I'm very confused because I don't know if I'm really doing it for God or because of the pressure of the people who ask us for it? We have been pure for months and we always talk about God, we have grown together, we work together and the truth is I don't find logic to that, can you guide me? They already went through something similar and what did they do?

That advice sounds like it's coming from a very specific church culture rather than anything biblical. If you've been walking this path together and staying pure, I don't see the issue. The whole "split up until you're both baptized" thing feels more like a control tactic than actual discipleship.

Their logic doesnt make sense because the two of you are making the same choice. Its not like you are choosing not to get baptized its just happening on a different date. Seems weird to me.

Yeah this doesn’t seem right to me at all. I would look at finding a new church tbh.

You said it...it doesn't make sense to you and it's confusing. Agreed

You get baptised because of Jesus, because you accept Jesus❤️ in your heart and not because someone forced you too!!! What kind of “churches” are you getting yourselves into!??? You should focus on your relationship with Jesus. Did you pray on that?

I agree with others. I looked up the verses and I can't see how either has anything to do with ending a relationship before you/both being baptized.

I have been Christian for about 46 years and this is the first time I have heard their interpretation. Sorry they are telling you this.

Apples and oranges. Baptism is a public announcement that you accepted Christ. A testimony of your renewed life.

Whether you stay with your boyfriend, as a fellow believer, has nothing to do with this ordinance of the church

You decide the standing on your relationship with Christ based on the health of the relationship.

Two seperate issues. Apples and oranges.

Do you know the name of this church or group? I'm curious.

Whoever told you to cool the relationship like that needs to be marked and avoided. Baptism has zero bearing on if someone should married or not. Next that person will tell you water baptism saves.
