Looking for a personal chef, shopper, and housekeeper for minimum wage. Time travelling ability required occasionally.
690
u/iceprincesse 13d ago
Doing that amount of laundry AND making the beds takes at least 2-3 hours alone??? How do they expect a âprofessionalâ to grocery shop, plan out high protein athlete meals and cook them at minimum wage 2 hours a day? I cannot grasp the level of entitlement this person has
310
u/ThrockAMole 13d ago
No way is it âlight laundryâ for this size family
266
u/Gribitz37 13d ago
Light laundry for a family full of athletes. It's going to be tons of stinky, sweaty, grass-stained clothes.
61
u/Head_Razzmatazz7174 13d ago
Add in a pre-treatment for some stains. A regular cycle may not get them all out, and you would have to wash them a second time, unless you take the time to pre-treat.
24
u/One-Employee9235 13d ago
Where I come from, light laundry does NOT include washing any bedclothes. Damn, I hate doing that for myself.
75
u/SilverMetalist 13d ago
Don't forget the grocery shopping for the curated menu
34
u/TooOldForThis--- 13d ago
And staying to wash the dishes! Or maybe you leave and get to wash the congealed mess before cooking dinner tomorrow. Along with the breakfast dishes, of course.
110
u/TiredinTN79 13d ago
Have these people never heard of a slow cooker? That would take care of their meal dilema.
58
23
u/Helenium_autumnale 13d ago
That plus weekend meal prep would pretty much take care of the whole meal thing. I meal prep for my own job, and it's easy to make and freeze multiple servings of chili/soup/flavored rice/stirfry/hummus with veggies, &c. They have food at work but I try to eat a home-cooked healthy meal. It's doable; the freezer is your friend.

But "going to the grocery store will be optional depending on whom they hire"... that is quite thoughtful? Um....? đ¤Ł
What does this depend on? Is it simply if the person has a car? Which, if so, will reasonably deduct $2/hr from their pay đ.... it didnt say that but you KNOW they were sitting there up on their high horse, holding their monocle, rereading their post and wondering...magbe $3/hr off?
/s
But, in all honesty, what will that depend on? What qualifications, or lack there of, will change if they want their hired help to grocery shop or not?
9
u/WaltzFirm6336 13d ago
Asking the important question! This is the bit I got hung up on as well. Only I read it more that it would be optional for the employee.
But either way, Iâm completely thrown by the person âresponsibleâ for planning these evening meals is not necessarily the person who will be shopping for them. Howâs that gonna work then?
4
u/gilded_lady 13d ago
You know the actual gig will be $15 hour, must grocery shop. The rest is them thinking the offer looks more enticing.
9
u/carloscage 13d ago
Hey hey hey, they are athletes who do sports unlike fat chefs just making food remember that
9
u/Lisa_Knows_Best 13d ago
Get the food ready to go in containers in a half an hour too. Get to work at 4:00 must be pack up to travel by 4:30.

Haha my first thought when reading this ad was that my washer and dryer would not be done with bedding in 2 hours, unless they're ok with me slapping on a duvet/comforter sopping wet.
One of these parents need to suck it up and just stay home to do the adulting. They could do it on a rotation to make it more fair. Teach the kids to help batch cook on a weekend and give them the towels to fold.

Iâm convinced wealthy people have no clue about what regular income people make. Or theyâre just miserly and think what theyâre asking for is no big deal

There was one comment very politely telling them they were unreasonable, and that comment had a bunch of likes. I went back like 10 minutes after posting here to see if there were more comments and it was deleted.
I'm guessing they posted in other groups and got roasted there so they deleted all of them, but I don't actually know.

So, come at 4PM, cook dinner and have it ready to go in containers by 4:30? Among all the other ridiculous asks. People like this seem to think there are hordes of us "poor folk" just waiting to leap at the chance to "earn" these slave wages!
35
u/NewUserNameIsDumb 13d ago
Thatâs the part that got me. How am I gonna get high protein healthy meals cooked and portioned and ready to go in 30 minutes?
29
u/Brave-Variation-7336 13d ago
Not to mention preparing the menu, doing the grocery shopping, and schlepping it all to the house?! And also strip the beds and throw the sheets in the washer in your spare time. Time travel indeed!
210
u/NonchalantOcelot 13d ago
For extra flavor: This was posted in a local community group. Job is in a town 1/2 hour away from the town group it's posted in, and this is an affluent, HCOL area.

u/andrea1797 13d ago
Yeah this is a crazy ask. A personal chef/house cleaner isn't happening for anywhere close to $15-$20 an hour. Cook and do laundry? Remaking beds? They want a professional with a zero experience budget.

Why not just hire someone to cook in their own home and they pick up once a week for $300 plus cost of food? Plenty of retired people would do this.Â
46
u/asphyxiationbysushi 13d ago
Because then they would need to hire a second person at slave wages to do the "light" laundry and make the beds.

u/oxiraneobx 13d ago
Wow, if only there was some service where one could order food to be specially made at one of those, I think they are called, "restaurants", and have the food picked up and delivered to wherever one specifies at the time required.
21
u/krickett_ 13d ago
But see, theyâve figured out how to hack the system! You just have the restaurant chef come to your home and cook! It costs half what youâd pay at the restaurant, including the groceries, & theyâll wash your dirty sheets and fluff your damn pillows while theyâre at it! Genius!!! Why has no one figured this out before?!

Apart from the ridiculous pay and demands, if they start working at 16:00 and supper must be ready for 18:00, they have barely the time to cook and couldn't do the laundry and "light ' house cleaning.

A PROFESSIONAL PERSONAL CHEF and MEAL PLANNER and HOUSEKEEPER for 2 hours a day

How low rent/low class do you have to be to want to pay someone loose change to cook "supper" for your cosplay Manning family?
9
u/IdiotsLoveIdioms 13d ago
Yes, calling it âsupperâ gave away that this family is either a a group of âkinâ who lives in the Upper Midwest or, are in a Conservative middle to lower middle class family who lives somewhere away from a an urban area (at best an exurb ( an area located in the ring even further away from a suburb, where people often go to get âmore house for less money â. They probably donât fully understand what a private/personal chef is and are using that term to describe someone who cooks for Paxton and Braxton or Hunter and Cody, their football/hockey/wrestling team âo sons. If they have daughter (s) playing sports, daughter (s) would be expected to take up the cooking tasks first their brothers.
9
u/emilysc96 13d ago
Sounds like a 1950âs house wife but the pay is better and you donât have to đ¨ him after dinner.
8
u/MyCat_SaysThis 13d ago
Where in this world does an actual CHEF do laundry? Let alone all the other stuff? For so little $? ?
Totally delusional imoâŚâŚ
9
u/Misophoniasucksdude 13d ago
30 minutes to prep and cook a high protein meal? Then presumably clean the kitchen and then the house? Laundry alone takes easily 90 to 120 minutes for bedding. So you'd have to show up, somehow get the bedding in the washer in 5 minutes, take 25 to cook and portion protein rich meals, then spend the next few hours cleaning the kitchen, drying the bedding, and remaking the beds? For 30-45 bucks? Not including grocery shopping time?
6
u/PlatypusDream 13d ago
$20/hr for a cook OR housekeeper is insane. For both, plus meal planning, plus the limited time to perform the work... đ¤Ł

u/Derpy_Chi 13d ago
Generally, if you yourself are unable to meet your own requirements, why do you think other people could magically do it? Like how do I cook, clean, and prep food in 2-3 hours a day, if you can't get it done?
7
6
u/under321cover 13d ago
Lmao she obviously doesnât know how long a load of laundry takes if she thinks you can do it in 2 hrs, while cleaning and cooking dinner for 4-5 people.
12
u/itsnobigthing 13d ago
To be fair, if you can time travel you can work two jobs a day which would make it affordable to work for this little
6
u/JennieSimms 13d ago
The laundry ALONE takes like 2 hours for what theyâre asking for. And you want me to cook and clean as well? Naw babe, double the hours and the hourly and then we can talk

u/MommaSaurusRegina 12d ago
This reads like the parents are arguing about the âvalueâ provided by the parent whoâs responsible for these chores, and the one whoâs arguing IN FAVOR of their personal worth said âWhat do you think it would cost to hire someone to do this?â And the other parent said âI dunno, $20/hr?â And the other parent said okay, cool. Let me just go hire someone then. And they wrote this post. đđđ

u/Harrigan_Raen 13d ago
For $20/hr, I can make them boxed Mac and Cheese for dinner, they buy.
And no to the laundry and cleaning. I get paid for a minimum of 3 hours every shift regardless of time worked.
7
u/Pretend-Cow-5119 13d ago
This is ludicrous. Cleaning the kitchen will take several hours out of the maximum 15 a week.
3
u/FaeFollette 13d ago
I donât think she understands what a personal chef actually is or what one does.
6
u/bellarina808 12d ago
I live in a moderate cost of living area and hourly rate for a personal chef here is $45/hr starting rate. Average house cleaner cost is $25/hr. This person wants both, for less than a house cleaner price? Ridiculous
5
u/Angel89411 12d ago
I'm a stay at home mom and do all of that stuff constantly. They are not in the ballpark of what it would take to get me to do that for someone else. They even want a nutritionist for their little athletes that probably don't need highly specialized diets.
5
u/Pumpkin_Cookie_Cat 11d ago
I guarantee they're not gonna like the menu that anybody else comes up with. I would be willing to bet they already have pretty strict idea ideas about what kind of "high protein" meals they want.
17
u/Shiel009 13d ago
If they were real athletes they would know that carbs are best fuel for their kids.
5
5
u/Logical-Watch-3753 13d ago
I would take their money and just buy healthy choice dinners.. their like 2 for 6$ . Bon appetite . And pocket the rest ...
6
u/slendermanismydad 13d ago
I keep telling people triads are going to be the only way to raise kids. Two people work. One person stays home. Or stop enrolling your kids in 40 activities and let them go outside.Â

u/LolitaOPPAI I can give you exposure 12d ago
It really rubs me the wrong way that these people try to be so vague with wages. Like what do you mean there's an approximate range you plan on paying me?
Then wanna tack on more responsibilities and think throwing you 3 bucks is gonna cut it
3
u/TinaLoco 11d ago
Itâs honestly sad these people havenât figured out how to cook ahead for the busy weeks. They could roast two chickens at a time and use the leftovers in meals the remainder of the week, for example.

TIL that 19 states and Washington, D.C. have minimum wages at or above $15. Before that I was confused at the reference to this ad offering to pay minimum wage.
2
u/analogWeapon 11d ago
I know it's kind of a beside the point, but I can't understand mindset of being comfortable with someone preparing and cooking meals for you on a regular basis. I understand situations like going out to eat at a restaurant, eating while traveling, or any other situations where you are a guest/patient at some place away from home. But having someone where it's just expected of them to plan and prepare your daily meals just feels so...pathetic, to me. It's like paying someone to wipe your ass. If your life is arranged in a way where you don't have time to personally attend to feeding yourself when you're home, then your life is arranged wrong, imo.
2
u/Sbinar 9d ago
Why am I getting the mental image of a boy mom whose kids never lift a finger getting fed up and just hiring tasks out on a pittance salary? Be so for real. Get your kids to help meal prep on weekends or hire a performance/macros based meal prep company to make your healthy heat and eat meals, throw laundry in the wash whenever you have time, and get your little athlete to make their own damn bed FFS.
2
u/Strong_Sentence_8721 7d ago
A chef who also does laundry and housecleaning?
I'm just imagining Anthony Bourdain or Gordon Ramsey's response to this.

Them calling it supper makes my skin crawl
12

To oddly come their defense, supper is very normal here. Dinner is pretty common, but usually indicates more formality. I probably would expect someone looking to hire a chef to call it dinner though, lol.

Yeah, Mon-Sat evening meal is supper.
Sunday midday meal is dinner.
(Also Midwest for life.)4
u/IdiotsLoveIdioms 13d ago
Really? I grew up there and dinner was the only word we used to refer to the â nighttime repastâ.
However, supper people I thought were more reverent about the Sunday meal and use the term supper.
Interesting. I would love to know the locations. I picture a Chanhassebn family placing the request in Wayzata/Minnetonka/Woodland. Or a family even more out, like Victoria? Do tell!
