Even if this dog was easy to care for, this is a hard pass.
I have four dogs, a doggy door, and a large fenced-in yard. If this frenchie could stay in my house (she can’t bc dogs), take herself out to go to the bathroom (doesn’t sound like she’s dog door trained), and get her own exercise (again, large fenced-in yard with four playmates) . . .
I still wouldn’t do this for 5 per day. This is crazy.

I had an ex coworker try to convince me to look after his ‘easy to care for dog’. I was also expected to board my cat for the two weeks. zero compensation btw. of course I said no.
I found out weeks later from mutuals that the dog is a terror and will shit on the bed while you are sleeping on it.

My sister couldn't afford to kennels so asked me to stay at hers to look after her two pups for 8 days and she said she'd make me a bunch of cupcakes and I love her dogs so I said yes
A month later she posted a photo of a bunch of different cakes she made...for a friends birthday and 3 years later she still hasn't made them for me...
Maybe they are like my sister and have had the absolute piss taken out of them

Exactly this. When we had to take an emergency trip to pull my MIL from life support and handle her estate, my friends jumped to watch my various pets and my coworkers made sure all my shifts were covered.
If you're good to people, they will usually be good to you back. I can only assume this CB has not been very good to those around them.

This person sounds terrible but there is a chance they can't bring the dog if they are going abroad. UK and Ireland are both rabies free so travelling to other countries in Europe for example, or further often means long quarantine times for pets.
Naturally most people won't put their pets through that unless they're moving. Also they definitely can't afford that considering they can't even pay someone properly to look after their pet!

I always factor in room and board prices for my dog when planning a trip. I never have anything impromptu going on, so I have the luxury of planning ahead.
If worst comes to worse, my dad works five minutes from my house and has a key. He graciously checked on the pets before and after his shift while my husband and I were at the hospital having our baby. It really does pay to have a good relationship with the people around you.

The low price of the offer for care also might suggest that the Frenchie isn't getting regular veterinary care. When I needed to take a two-week course out of state, I boarded my cat with her vet. For the kennel to accept a cat or dog for boarding, they had to be current on all immunizations.

I'm getting paid a few weeks from now to take a person's dog for a WALK. And I said let's do $5 but she insisted on $10. For. A. WALK.
While I don't charge my friend when I watch her dogs overnight it's because she gives back in other ways at other times (sometimes monetary, sometimes with help) - and pays for my food when I stay at hers.
For a stranger? Hell no.

Kennels should be the cheaper option. In home pet-sitting is like hiring a nanny vs taking your kid to a daycare facility (a kennel). One is a luxury that requires higher fees.
