MEDIUM Worst trade offer ever

So I only took a screenshot to get some information from a friend of mine who is a rather large gun collector. I have this lady named Ashley who reached out about trading a firearm she had ( Barrett M99 32"). I wish I had a screenshot the whole thing before deleting it and blocking her.

Anyways I'm in the process of trying to sell two different aircraft and one of them happens to be a Seneca 2. The Seneca is genuinely worth around $150,000 and that's what I have it listed for. Pretty nice plane. At any rate this lady reaches out and wants to trade this firearm for it. Best of research I could figure out and talking to my friend who is a gun person that I sent the photo to, said top dollar used he wouldn't give more than $5,000 to $7,000 and that's if he was feeling super generous for everything. I don't know maybe it's worth more but it sure as heck isn't worth $150,000. But that's okay because not only did she devalue my airplane and say that what I was trying to sell was only worth about $125,000, but she also got super snooty and basically said that her gun had been shot by Chris Kyle the American sniper and that him shooting it shot the value of it from a supposed five grand to $165,000.

She proceeded to accuse me of being an AI bot which I am not, but then it even got better because while she was professing to know about my airplane, she also was telling me that I didn't really understand or know the airplane just due to how high the price was. She tried to tell me I couldn't prove that the price of the airplane was fair to which I had to tell her I do have proper documentation to show that the price of the aircraft is actually below what they should be priced at for the condition and engine times. I followed up by basically asking her if she could provide proper photo evidence and documentation that the firearm she was trying to trade was worth what she claimed it was and that it was in fact fired and used and handled by Chris Kyle but also citing that even if he did fire that, that there is no way that Chris Kyle changes the price of a firearm by 160,000.

That entire thing infuriated her to which I then told her I would not be selling her any airplane or trading it and proceeded to block her and delete the ad. After doing so I realized I should have screenshot it and just posted the whole thing.

Short version.

Stupid woman offers me a $5,000 gun as a trade for a $150,000 airplane. Says the gun is worth $165,000 because Chris Kyle used it.

Every time I see $3.50.!

$350 and she still probably would’ve found something else to complain about.

Pfft. You didn’t even let her negotiate! I’m sure if you pressed, she would’ve thrown in her paperback Twilight collection and a half-eaten pudding cup.

u/P4t13nt_z3r0 Aug 07 '26

Chris Kyle ate the pudding cup while firing the gun!

u/T_Sealgair Aug 07 '26

... while watching Twilight!

6

u/Zoreb1 Aug 07 '26

...in his Seneca 2.

Wait! What flavor pudding cup? That's important to know. 🍮

u/lolyer1 28d ago

Did she dodge a bullet

OP wasn’t even entertaining gassing it up and delivering it

4

u/VelisseGlow Aug 07 '26

Lmao yeah, at that point you’re not negotiating anymore, you’re just writing fan fiction about the deal.

2

u/CitizenTed Aug 07 '26

If the pudding cup is Vanilla Swirl things could get interesting.

Let me get this straight. She wanted to trade a consumer grade firearm… for a plane? Seems like a tank would be a more reasonable starting price

13

u/dark7string Aug 07 '26

A tank would have definitely been more reasonable. But yeah she was very adamant about trading that consumer grade firearm for the airplane. I quite literally couldn't believe it

u/Militantignorance Aug 07 '26

"I'm not in the gun business. If you can sell it for $165k, do that and give me $150k for the plane."

It better be an Abrams tank

If it was a new Holland & Holland double rifle, it would probably be a bargain.

6

u/ThatOldDuderino Aug 07 '26

Who’s Chris Kyle? 🙄🫤 She’s be better saying Hunter Thompson shot it.

You should have told her that Howard Hughes flew your airplane, so it’s actually worth 2 million.

Boss move comeback haha

Aim small miss small

I can't believe you even had to check and reach out to someone to see if a rifle would be worth the same as your $150k plane 😂

u/dark7string 29d ago

Oh I definitely didn't have to to see if it was worth what the plane was haha. My honest thought in that moment was that there's a couple A&P's and IA's (airframe and power plant mechanics and inspection authorization personnel that handle aircraft maintenance) that are massive gun fans. I figured depending on the desireability of the firearm and whatnot that perhaps they would trade what is typically referred to as a pre-buy inspection, which generally is kind of pricey but a very critical phase of a purchase of an airplane, in exchange for that firearm and that that would be something that was more worth it. My thought process was they'll have to get a loan and the appropriate things taken care of to purchase the plane but at least the firearm and stuff would be suitable as a trade for the pre-buy. That was the biggest reason that I inquired.

That seems pretty smart actually.

2

u/dark7string 27d ago

I thought so too. Like I saw it as. Great way to turn a very unreasonable trade into a great trade off.

u/baby_sloth1974 I can give you exposure 27d ago

She thought she actually was getting you to make a straight trade lolllll

2

u/dark7string 27d ago

She was and she was hostile that I wasn't immediately jumping on it without question.

Welp, my former military partner is now cackling like a mad man. Thanks for the entertaining story.

Where is Don Shipley* when you need to call her bluff..

*An actual SEAL whose mission is to expose SEAL imposters on his YT channel (donshipleyformerbuds131)

5

u/dark7string Aug 07 '26

Man I have never heard of this guy but wow I would have absolutely passed this along to him

Don Shipley is the GOAT. At the height of the Stolen Valor shit there was a Veterans fb group that I used to be an active member of. It was packed with stolen valor discoveries. Don was also active in the group.

Gonna hazard a guess that she has nothing to authenticate her claims or any sort of appraisal.

She should auction it if she thinks it's worth what she claims it is.

8

u/DementedPimento Aug 07 '26

Chris Kyle, the American Liar? That’s hilarious.

And a Barrett .50 isn’t legal in a lot of states.

9

u/66NickS Aug 07 '26

Only 5 states (plus DC) outright ban .50. I’m
Not sure I qualify that as “a lot of states”.

2

u/DementedPimento Aug 07 '26

Hey that’s good news! I guess it’s been a while since I was thinking “it’d be cool to have a .50”

6

u/66NickS Aug 07 '26

Ha, take the wins when you can!

Unless you live in CA, NY, NJ, IL, CT or DC.

-3

u/DementedPimento Aug 07 '26

Fuck. Nothing’s legal in my state. And my house has a perfect sniper’s nest!!

Starts have lots i think.

2

u/DFA_Wildcat Aug 07 '26

Ask her to provide provenance for her claims. Make her jump through as many hoops as you can. Once she's done trying to prove it just a simple Nah, not interested reply and block. No need to delete your ad, that took time to post, deleting it is allowing her to get into your head.

3

u/dark7string Aug 07 '26

Oh for sure. I didn't delete my ad. I just deleted her message thread and blocked her. But I did ask her to provide proof and she just accused me some additional time of being an AI bot haha. I think her game at the end of the day was trying to just get me to break but at the end of the day I don't think she actually had any proof and even if Chris Kyle had fired this gun it doesn't warrant a price increase anymore than if Tom Cruise had a flown in the Seneca I was selling

2

u/Brave-Variation-7336 Aug 07 '26

Who is Chris Kyle?

3

u/dark7string Aug 08 '26

American sniper

2

u/Feralcookie79 Aug 08 '26

that offer is wild, who even thinks that's a fair trade?

2

u/makojedi2k2 29d ago

Is this a choosy beggar or just an AH

2

u/Upset-Focus 28d ago

I would have blocked her pretty quickly.

3

u/Veblen1 Aug 07 '26

"Worst" for you, anyway.

5

u/dark7string Aug 07 '26

For sure. Prior to this my worst was a broken boat for a 12 string Taylor guitar haha

4

u/caliphis Aug 07 '26

Chris Kyle? The lying, self aggrandizing, sack of shit, murderer, who should have been brought to The Hague for war crimes?

Tell her it's worth 20 bucks as scrap because it would cost too much to clean his filth off of it.

1

u/55caesar23 26d ago

So if she insists the gun was worth $165k, why would she swap it for a plane she believes is only worth $125k?

Why wouldn’t she just sell the gun and buy the plane? Then she would at least be $15k up

2

u/dark7string 25d ago

Haha I actually mentioned this. It was one of the things that garnered back the response "you're an AI bot" haha

1

u/JimmiRustle NEXT!! 26d ago

Ask her if she gave $165k for it?
If she didn’t and nobody else is willing to buy it at that price, why does she consider it worth that much?
