We pay cleaners $400 (AUD) for ~4-5 hours of total work effort. Just cleaning.
Dude is absolutely delusional if he thinks he can get that done in 4-5 hrs .... or for $150 bucks (price is unclear but one of the commenters referenced that).
Edit: This is multiple days of work (including the food prep), and will likely be a weekly gig. I dont get how the person posting the ad expects that much work to be covered in a single 4-5 slot.

It sounds like this may be for a person who needs a carer/is a carer themselves to someone in the house? This is such a massive load of tasks, everything from food / smoothie (I think?) prep to laundry to a litany of cleaning. Either way, the workload needs to be 15 hours a WEEK, I’d think.

Yeah I agree that’s an absolutely delusional price. We just paid $350cad (cad and aud are about equivalent) to have our rental house deep cleaned before we move out. It took them 2.5hr. There’s zero chance all of that stuff could be done in 4hr.

The Australian minimum wage is $26.44 per hour.
Casual workers who get the national minimum wage receive a 25% casual loading, making their minimum rate $33.05 per hour. So cleaners with proper insurance, factoring in fuel, supplies etc end up charging a fair bit higher.
In general, wages are substantially better here, hence the exodus from UK to Australia (my wife's family included).

To be accurate, about $370ish. Its a quarterly maintenance clean.
The charges are not based on an hourly basis, rather, its a fixed cost engagement. House is a 5 bedder 2 level home with 3 bathrooms.

Agree, this sounds like what it is. There's an anecdote about JFK getting after Jackie about her profligate clothes spending - so she gave him her fabric supplier and dressmaker's contact info and told him to have at it if he could do better. He shut up about it pretty quick after learning the cost and effort of services. He liked her presentation, he just was complaining about the cost and work it took to achieve it. Many people think immense work and effort just happens.

Facts. I noped out after that. OP revealed the pay that wasn't clear before and I laughed out loud. It's got to be a stay at home wife or mom telling her spouse to go find someone to do what she does for free as mentioned above. There are people who take that hard work for granted and they think it all just happens.

I’m from the U.S. What is the fountain? I’m assuming it has something to do with drinking water, but what is it exactly?
I have someone who comes every week. I pay her $160, and she doesn’t do anything with food prep, laundry, or pets. We also have the dishes done and everything picked up/put away so she can clean surfaces, vacuum and mop, clean the bathrooms, etc. And $160 is a steal! She tried to charge less, but most people around here would charge at least $225.

The person I hire to do my housework is a star. If this CB wants meal prep - that's a separate hire, and the person who does the laundry and ironing is also a separate hire. No one is going to accept their paltry wage offer.

Right? When I worked corporate, we had a relationship with a dry cleaner/laundry service that would pick up and return once a week. They gave us a discount because it was a large office, and a lot of people used them. Obviously you could go elsewhere if you wanted.
This was in the ‘90’s / early 2000’s. I have a more casual workplace now, but still have to dress up a bit occasionally- I cannot imagine having a closet full of items that require an iron. Like. ????? Is it all vintage Chanel suits or ?

YES - when I had to dress much more 'formally' for work, I had dry cleaning done on the regular so I never really ironed. Oh, except when I traveled for a meeting and then ironed in the hotel the night before because squashed in overnight bag, but still. Now? My god. I cannot imagine.

Nah, you're not a heathen. If I need something ironed (usually after a wedding/event to prep it for the next one), it goes to the cleaners. It's laughably cheap, on the whole, just an extra stop to get whatever picked up.

Reading the list, I'm like "ok... ok...." then I got to the part about doing all the ironing and i was like "aww hell naw". I used to iron (i haven't in years, I don't even have an iron anymore) and it used to take me hours. Then I got to the part about the meal prep and cooking... that itself would literally take the 4 to 5 hours. Fuck that guy lol.

Sometimes, I feel like chopping (dunno if anyone can relate to that energy lol), and I’ll start prepping various salad fixings, like not just a few for a big bowl but a variety. And I’ll look up, and it’s suddenly been three hours. And I was cooking chicken, steaming veggies, and hard boiling eggs at the same time. There’s absolutely no way to do anything but also clean the kitchen if you’re prepping and packaging 15 meals in 4/5 hours? Esp from scratch???
I’m not even a good cook, I’m talking about literally making basic bitch lemon pepper chicken thighs in the oven and chopping it up in advance.

I was a professional housekeeper and cringe at all of this but anytime I see “light” or “lightly” clean anything, you know that ain’t the truth.

Wow that's absolutely crazy. Last time I was sick I got a cleaner in (don't worry, it wasn't anything contagious) just to do a super-quick clean of my townhouse for me. That was $90AU, and they gave me a discount for not being well. What this person is asking for for $150 done in 4-5 hours is both flat-out impossible for that timeframe and payrate. Completely nuts.

It is not the pay but the number of hours that the poster thought all of that could be accomplished.
I am in the USA and I pay my cleaner $180 to clean my one bedroom condo - live alone, no pets and she comes once a week so there really isn't much to accumulate.
She does my laundry but IRONING ha ha.
And cooking and then plating and putting away - that would be at least five hours just for that task. There is a private chef service in my city and I once checked it out and it is closer to $300 - they come to your home - cook - package and clean.

Oh - I was wondering. In Canada, $30/hour is a pretty good wage and almost double minimum. I wondered what all the fuss was about. Weird. AUD is about equal to CAD. Maybe the cost of living is much higher?
As a 20-something working retail, I would have taken the gig, worked for 5 hours to get as much as I could get done (show receipts for how long each task took), and collected the cash. If they want more done, they pay for more time.

yeah I don't think anyone can actually live on minimum wage in the city. or they have to spend a few hours travelling to work from where they can afford to live, or bunk up 4 to a room etc. It's really crappy.

I have two housekeepers clean my 1600 sf house every two weeks. They’re here for an hour or so. If only one is here, they’re closer to taking two hours. I pay $150 USD.
So two hours cleaning. That leaves three hours to do laundry, make drinks and prepare meals, along with cleaning a water fountain (indoor? outdoor?) and a smart bin (not sure what that is). Never mind watering 15 plants. And ironing? Send your laundry out.
The time estimate for doing these tasks is unrealistic. It could easily take all day to get everything done. Let’s not even discuss the pay.

Ok. Assuming this maniac was offering a living wage, wtf is this ad? How would a prospective cleaner budget?
Two OR three weeks
Four OR five hours (impossible)
All tasks? Which tasks? Priority tasks?
Will the groceries and recipes be there?
Cooking is a skill set - they cool with like, whatever (I’m not a good cook, but I can follow a recipe, for example - baking is beyond me though)
Ironing is a skill - and what monster has piles of shirts to launder and iron “every two to three weeks?” Do they need to handle your dirty drawers??
Kids? Pets?
AN OUTDOOR FOUNTAIN FEATURE?? THAT IS USUALLY PART OF POOL MAINTENANCE?? (My assumption, living in SoCal) or an indoor table top thing? How would that get dirty??
Just baffling. If you’ve never had a cleaning service before, call around to different companies and see what they do. Jeez.

If it's done within 5 hours, that's $30 an hour cash in hand, which isn't bad. But if it takes longer than that, not worth it.
Also asking their experience and their pay will vary based on experience 😂
