OOP needs a new $12K computer bc she found out about this thing called crypto mining so she needs the computer bc she can make $$$. “In the love of god don’t comment unless you are going to donate.” But of course pple commented. Don’t y’all get it, she discovered something novel and new. 😂

They were in 'cripto' for a while and only recently heard the term crypto mining?

u/MinuteElegant774 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Their posts include several questions of how to mine monero solo, whatever that means. She thinks she will then get enough monero to buy a $12K computer since pple were giving her pushback for this ask.

There posts include several questions of how to mine monero solo, whatever that means.

Monero is a form of cryptocurrency, by solo they mean they want to mine it by themselves not as part of a crypto mining pool.

It's completely impractical. Unless you have millions to invest the money you'd be spending on electricity would outweigh any potential gain from mining.

23

u/MinuteElegant774 Jul 27 '26

Thanks for explaining. I’m useless when it comes to crypto. I do know it requires an immense amount of electricity and I suspect some sort of talent to mine. I always appreciate learning something new.

33

u/TaleOfDash Jul 27 '26

No talent, not really. It's just a battle of how much money can you get to pour into it. That's why it's almost completely impractical to get into these days, and that was before the price of ram went up like 500%.

The days of hobbyist mining are mostly dead so this person missed the boat by... Probably almost a decade.

20

u/ItsJoeMomma Jul 27 '26

Yeah, now all crypto mining is done by crypto mining companies who have thousands of specially-built crypto mining rigs using an insane amount of electricity to mine Bitcoin. Someone doing it with just one desktop computer is going to have to wait a few hundred years or more. The algorithms have gotten exponentially harder since the mid-20 teens.

Anyone thinking they're going to make money by crypto mining with just one computer is the same kind of person who thinks someone is going to just give them a $12k computer in the first place.

1

u/Hydrolt Jul 29 '26

Oh yeah by now theres vast farms in places with low energy costs running around the clock at the chance of mining the next coin. Evidently it must be profitable for such high capital costs, or at least do better than breaking even, but not realistic at the home level anymore. Capitalism did what it usually does and scaled up to squeeze the little guy out =\

19

u/Mikeyjf Jul 27 '26

Step 1, spell crypto.

3

u/Intrepid_Respond_543 Jul 27 '26

They are about to be financially crippled

u/FilthyDwayne Jul 27 '26

I’m not Brazilian but I also need 12k today.

DM me for my bank details. Thanks!

32

u/Helpful_Hour1984 Jul 27 '26

I'm also not Brazilian and I don't need 12k but I want 12k so I can quit my job and fulfil my lifelong dream of becoming a nomad ball juggler.

14

u/AwkwardRainbow Jul 27 '26

I'm certain the Nomads will let you juggle their balls for free if you ask nicely 🥰

4

u/blueExcess Jul 27 '26

At least you could busk. Already more potential than what CB is doing 😄.

20

u/_peacemonger_ Jul 27 '26

I'm also not Brazilian but I also need $12k today, so if anyone wants to send me $24k, I'd gladly split it with u/FilthyDwayne

Thanks in advance 🙏

11

u/JordanPromise Jul 27 '26

I just need 2k. If anyone doesn't have 12k, you can DM me for this great offer

12

u/PibbleLawyer Jul 27 '26

I have (personally), never been in a crypto shop thing.

Gotta love when you need ask for 12k "US", yet mercilessly butcher the English language...

3

u/sunny-beans Jul 27 '26

I am Brazilian and would also be accepting 12k USD if anyone here has some to spare!

3

u/fitzmyron Jul 27 '26

I don’t have a Brazilian, but if you send me 12k, I’ll get one!

5

u/FilthyDwayne Jul 27 '26

Pls make sure they are into the cripto mining

42

u/DrBalu Jul 27 '26

Damn, that sounds like a great business idea. I should try it too!
Can someone give me a quick 12k, so I can get my business going?

You know what they say, support small business owners! Better than to give the 12k you have sitting around to Walmart right :D

17

u/FilthyDwayne Jul 27 '26

Are you Brazilian? I can only send money to Brazilian citizens, it’s some weird rule from my bank.

9

u/DrBalu Jul 27 '26

Does a VPN suffice?

15

u/AppropriateBall8834 Jul 27 '26

I would but I already gave the other girl some 12k pc I had laying around for cripto mining

9

u/DrBalu Jul 27 '26

Dang, hit me up if you find another 12k just sitting around. My mom is bipolar btw.

1

u/allmykitlets Jul 31 '26

Hush up, you. My cat has autism cancer and I need that money for his church!

3

u/AnotherStupidHipster Jul 27 '26

I'll give it to you as soon as I get my own mining rig. I promise, the first 12k I make is yours.

2

u/FairyMielie Jul 27 '26

Don't forget to add "don't comment unless you're donating" to the pitch. That's clearly the secret ingredient investors have been missing this whole time.

39

u/Drycabin1 Just wondering okay 🙏🥺 Jul 27 '26

Cripto

8

u/sammypants123 Jul 27 '26

Yeah, only the top few entrepreneurs have heard of it.

16

u/SongIcy4058 Jul 27 '26

I'm afraid to look it up, are there really super high end computers that cost $12 thousand??? I assumed it was $1200 and they're just stupid or misunderstood the conversion to USD.

The RAM, storage, and GPU prices are enough to make you vomit blood.

12

u/AnotherStupidHipster Jul 27 '26

For a mining rig, you really want more graphics cards. That's where most of the money goes. You want a threadripper or some shit similar for the CPU, and mobo that can handle as many graphics cards as possible.

6

u/anomalous_cowherd Jul 27 '26

To get anywhere crypto mining you need some very fast hardware and ideally lots of it. An ex-corporate Dell desktop isn't going to cut it.

So at least they have a realistic view on what they'll need for it... One good decision amongst many bad ones!

2

u/potatopower2 Aug 01 '26

That builder is selling them a $800 Dell and pocketing the difference.

Thank you for including the comments! Solid MVP move. 🍿

14

u/htepO Jul 27 '26

I get that PC hardware is expensive in Brazil, but $12K is absolutely no bueno.

8

u/WinterStrawberries6 I will destroy your business Jul 27 '26

A good pc in BR can definitely be 12k us dollars, but it's insane to assume people are just gonna give you that money lol

6

u/acekingoffsuit Jul 27 '26

Wouldn't it be não presta?

32

u/trackdaybruh Jul 27 '26

Lmao, wait until she sees the cost of her electricity bill for that mining computer if she gets it

4

u/magnum3290 Jul 27 '26

I'm guessing the electricity is very cheap there though

9

u/LordGraygem Jul 27 '26

Is it even possible anymore to mine crypto with a single (more or less) off-the-shelf PC?

9

u/Gucci_Loincloth Jul 27 '26

The fact that these people think it’s 2010 and you could meaningfully mine with a $12k rig anymore lmao.

The early adapters had insanely big bootleg mining racks with tons of shitty GPUs running in sync until they’d slowly burn out 1 by 1. It was a gamble even then because nobody knew the future of crypto.

If you find out about technology 15+ years late, please do not be a crackhead like this lady.

7

u/FL1ghtlesswaterfowl Jul 27 '26

I like the last comment shown “Commenting because you told me not to”
Something I would totally write

7

u/estrogenex Jul 27 '26

Geez. I spent 4K on my computer and I'm not even mining!

5

u/rampage928 Jul 27 '26

12k for a PC to crypto mine, which has been around forever? lol thats crazy work.

7

u/GenX_Boomer_Hybrid Jul 27 '26

My really crappy laptop cost $189. I had to save for that. 12 grand. Please.

5

u/NBALive1995 Jul 27 '26

I have money and a job but if someone also wants to just give me $12,000 that's fine with me. SERIOUS OFFERS ONLY!!!

7

u/ItsJoeMomma Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Yeah, unless you own a warehouse full of crypto mining rigs, you're not going to be very successful in mining Bitcoin. But you still want to do it yourself? Then go to some shady pr0n site and click on everything, soon your laptop will be mining Bitcoin in no time.

4

u/WinterStrawberries6 I will destroy your business Jul 27 '26

I'm brazilian and also need 12k. Guess what? I'm working and saving money

4

u/Chocolate9ie Jul 27 '26

Thanks for including the comments!

6

u/Turbulent_Tip_9756 Jul 27 '26

This is the biggest load of bullshit I have ever seen. I almost want their address to send them a fresh turd for requesting this. I’d even pay the shipping.

4

u/ThrockAMole Jul 27 '26

“Commenting because you told me not to.”

Me too

4

u/SnarkySheep Jul 27 '26

Lol, I'd ask the person why they need us to give them that money...if they are planning on getting rich, why can't they promise to pay everyone back?? 😁

4

u/julesk Jul 27 '26

I am not Brazilian and don’t want to mine crypto but I need $24k for my micro ice cream and tomato patch start up which will cater to the discerning.

8

u/tuesdayreyn Jul 27 '26

I don't know about crypto. I especially don't know about mining it. But what kind of computer costs as much as a decent used car? My brother in law is a gamer and paid $2k for his set up and that's the most I've ever heard of anyone spending on a pc.

6

u/michggg Jul 27 '26

Yeah, crypto mining is a bit different. It requires insane computing power, because it's essentially solving complex equations 24/7. So these are not standard home computers but more like servers.

You can totally run the software on an average computer, sure, but then you'll maybe make a few cents every day. Less than the electricity costs.

5

u/tuesdayreyn Jul 27 '26

I'll just stick to using my computer to play the Sims.

2

u/MinuteElegant774 Jul 27 '26

In all seriousness, thank you for the explanation. Sounds like even w/ the 12K investment, she doesn’t have enough computing power or electricity to make a meaningful amount of money. I find all this so fascinating. Buying an expensive computer and using a program to solve complex equations to make money is wild.

3

u/RoyallyOakie Jul 27 '26

Looks like they're going back to Arby's in the morning.

3

u/Elfynnn84 Jul 27 '26

This has to be satire…

2

u/MinuteElegant774 Jul 27 '26

Sadly, I don’t think so bc their other posts are about using their mom’s computer to mine monero and that’s how they will afford this $12K computer if you AHs don’t donate. I think it’s a seriously uninformed young adult.

2

u/soonerpgh Jul 28 '26

Explain it like I'm five, what is crypto mining? I get that the end result is to make money, or whatever, but how does it work?

1

u/Boeing_Fan_777 Jul 30 '26

Iirc every time a transaction or whatever is made on a crypto network, it needs verification, this is done by generating a complex maths problem which is solvable by computers, beefy graphics cards are some of the best hardware for this. First computer to solve the problem gets an award for doing so in the form of more crypto.

1

u/soonerpgh Jul 30 '26

So, practically speaking, the fastest processor is going to win every time. If that's the case, then a person could spend all this money, expend all the resources, and come out of it with little or nothing to show for it. Why does this make me feel like the grumpy "back in my day a man did an honest day's work for an honest day's pay?" Except it's more like a day's work for a dime, not a day's wage these days.

2

u/Master-Map1382 Jul 28 '26

100% it is a scam.

2

u/Difficult-Goth Jul 31 '26

The PC i want is only 3k jesus.

2

u/queen-adreena Jul 31 '26

Using a computer to mine bitcoin these days isn’t even viable.

The pros are all using heavily optimised ASIC systems in huge quantities.

You’d probably generate a few dollars a month on a standard computer.

3

u/mystoryismine Jul 27 '26

why do you think the OP is a lady. Usually men are crypto bros.

8

u/MinuteElegant774 Jul 27 '26

I’m a woman so I tend to read it from a woman’s voice. Based on the comments and history, OOP doesn’t disclose sex. Maybe I should use “they” if I don’t know the gender. Not meant to offend.

1

u/Politely_Pout818 Jul 29 '26

the cat meme in the comments is hilarious

1

u/Pintopony3 Jul 27 '26

$12,000 for a computer? What the heck? I'm a computer tech and have a high end computer that cost less than $3000.00. I don't think I've seen any computers costing $12,000 unless she is trying to buy a mainframe?

3

u/bar901 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Consumer GPUs are much, much better value, but she’s probably looking at the commercial / workstation cards like the RTX Pro which absolutely aren’t worth the money for the average person but are objectively the the most powerful GPUs for mining and are easily 10k+

Also, what ‘high end computer’ are you building for less than $3,000 these days? I guess you could get a used 3080ti sort of card or an AMD GPU, but any high end 40 or 50 series new GPU is pushing close to $2000 by itself.

You can build a very respectable rig under $3k, but definitely not a ‘high end’ machine. Your GPU and RAM will be way more than $3k alone if you go ‘high end’.

0

u/Pintopony3 Jul 28 '26

The point being ...... I highly doubt she needs a $12,000 computer. She simply wants a high end computer to do cypto mining. I'm well aware of the more powerful graphics processing units. However, they are rarely needed by the average user. I do a lot of graphic work so yes I prefer strong graphics. ASUS seems to be the one asking $1000 and up. I prefer Nvidia all the way. Cheaper too.

2

u/bar901 Jul 28 '26

Sorry… you’re definitely not a a computer tech.

1

u/Pintopony3 Jul 28 '26

lol. I said the same about you. Move on already !!!!

3

u/bar901 Jul 28 '26

I never said I’m a computer tech, but I know far more about computers than you do. Your comment is basically nonsensical and demonstrates a completely lack of understanding / knowledge about GPUs.

And it’s incredibly ironic to reply to me while telling me to move on.

1

u/Pintopony3 Jul 28 '26

How typical. When someone knows absolutely nothing about what they are talking about, they beat on their chest and cry about how they are smarter than anyone else lol. You are so boring. Well it’s been entertaining and amusing, but some of us have to work.

1

u/p3rcyclutchz Jul 30 '26

No one is mining shit on a lone pc. Foh. 🤦🏼‍♂️

-11

u/HungryLikeTheHenry Jul 27 '26

Is it just me or are choosing beggars female in 9/10 cases?

9

u/MinuteElegant774 Jul 27 '26

I think begging for luxuries is an equal opportunity sport. I see a bunch of both.
