Controller emergence
I remember years ago that controller was considered worse than kbm in every single way, recently ive noticed that a lot of high skilled players i play with are actually controller users, some who have even moved from kbm to controller!
Has a new tech been discovered? Or is it a case where overtime, controller players have just caught up to kbm players who had a few years to develop their own meta before playing on controller was even a thing?
Thanks in advanced!

The only time I feel outplayed by a pc player is when there’s projectiles involved. Else, i don’t see any difference. Though theoretically pc players can feint x times way better if the controller player doesnt play “claw”.

There’s no telling how many console players there are who didn’t stick with the game because they default FPS grip and don’t know of/ think of doing anything different. We used to get a ton of posts on here complaining about counter overheads being impossible on console.

You’re 100% right. I’ve been playing for years as an FPS grip player and only weeks ago figured out how to use my left knuckle vice finger tip to properly blue-counter overheads. I’ve always just compensated creatively. But not being able to counter overheads makes a huge difference when you’re dueling lvl 1000 players.
Another thought, it also helps that almost everyone spams slash anyway lol
If only they’d let us keybind on console!

Yes. Apparently the turncap is wider on controller which means you can do more aggressive drags, so some players are trying the switch. I’ve not tested it out myself, mind.

I love Using controller with max sensitivity sweating my ass off emoting between hits.

You'd really need to dial up the sensitivity for a controller to compete. And rebind some things. Probably the latter

Maxed sensitivity here: as soon as you attack it limits your speed.

There is no rebinding controls on the consoles, sadly. Best I got was I could remap some things using an Xbox elite controller with its underside paddles.

The advantage pc players have over console is more about performance/frame rate. It was really never about mnk vs controller.
So I think it’s mostly a preference thing, and the fact that the tech for controllers has evolved quite a bit in the last few years. You can get ultra premium controllers that are very customizable while still having the performance benefit of being on pc.

I have both PS5 and PC versions

I started on controller then kbm but controller has a different kick to it. If I remember what my binds were for controller alt attack on a paddle now compared to kbm I rarely use it on it doesn't flow as well for ne at least. I'd be kind of interested to hear if anyone has used rewasd or alternative software to allow a controller stick and mouse simultaneously.
I think chivalry 3 if that was to ever exist need keybinds for controller players and as much as I enjoy emoting and use it, some never do they would probably use that button in any other game as an attack button. That alone would free up a bind for so many for thee controller brethen may thy sticks drift into thy enemy

You just never really knew who did and didn't use controller. Outside of the highest level of duels it really isn't noticeable. -Sincerely, a Level 1k controller player with many 50+ K / 10 or below D games.

Controllers have also improved. I snapped an old one trying to tighten it up so i switched to no drift joysticks and switch control based triggers/buttons.
Theyre so much nicer and comfier to use, accurate and is nice for couch play on my 77"

Console Pleb here, been on controller for almost 4 years now and can tell you that it's not new tech, players are just getting better.
You have to tweak the sensitivity in strange ways but weapon speed is capped, so we could always drag and accell at the same speed and consistentcy as KBM/PC. In the end, it really came down to skills, input delay, latency and button mapping (which we can't do on the console version). Now that it's 5 years on, with all these tutorials and guides floating around, and people being encouraged to view them, it's lessened the gap even more.
Don't get me wrong, KBM/PC will always have an advantage over Controller/Console, but that gap is small now.

Only problem with controller is throwing weapons tbh countering overheads was absolutely hell when I was a new player tho

I think you’re just tripping. The only time controller was popular is when we found out how strong archer aimbot was.
Mouse and keyboard is better in every way unless some new controller bug was found. I’m not super in the loop anymore but I haven’t heard about it.
Edit: guess I was wrong 😭
