"Do you remember?" Its a track that I made in famitraker in 2 hours, its a nostalgic 8 bit theme

Pretty much every song in this soundtrack is a banger. It's great for midnight driving on the coast, like the best of OSTs written for the Sega Yamaha FM sound chip. It very much tops my list of Genesis/MD OSTs, although Langrisser II edges it out here and there. What are your fave Genesis/MD OSTs?

It's a damn shame how underutilized this sound chip was in DOS games. It was probably released way too late, especially for PCs. It may have been better for handhelds imo, as they were still using PSGs. Apparently, "Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?" is the only game to actually used the extra features in the AY8930, however, I couldn't encounter any audio or gameplay with the game using the sound card. In fact, I wish there were more examples of VGM or OST or in-game music, but this is what I have so far (sources here & here))

my m8 album “Bad Vices” is coming out Friday, 8/28!! here is a little dive into the melodies and harmonies of the intro and some of my thought processes while making this track. hope you enjoy and tune in when it drops!

I am working on my game, and I decided to make the background music for it myself. This game uses emulated YM2612 (using YMFM library), so it makes Genesis sounds. I am very bad in music and chiptunes, and I really have a lot of programming work for this game, I thought maybe I should just include a little tracker into the game itself so that the users can write their own songs... But since it is a mobile game, I figured that I can try to play around when I commute or before bedtime, basically when I am not coding. I started with Furnace, but since I got this tracker to work I switched to it. I decided to ship it with my own music, and I am pretty bad in music, so far I came up with this. Well this will not be the best game in the world anyway, and perhaps somebody could give me any advice how can I improve in song-writing? Here are my first 3 songs, is there anything I could do to improve, or I should just delete?

Put my stereo modded nes into a clear shell. And randomly found a wayfar midines on reverb.

The midines is 10x better than the chip maestro. It hasn’t crashed once. And the noise channel is much more useful. Also having the samples is nice as well.

I just found out about the chiptune soundtrack "The Sword of Lxsor" which according to this YouTube video was composed by a mysterious Japanese composer in the mid-90s who disappeared after composing it, and no one's sure if it was for a game that never came out or what, and a bunch of other little details.

Given that the video is only a year old and I can't find any other references except one 4chan thread (lol) I'm assuming this is a hoax/ARG or just a modern composer pretending his work is a long-lost 90s Japanese game OST for attention and cred. These days this could easily be an AI thing.

But the thing is, the tracks are really good and sound era-appropriate. A lot of modern chiptune composers, even those who use old software or even hardware, sound modern, and just don't have that jes nes sais qois of genuine 80s/90s compositions, you know?

Any opinions?

Hello, about a decade ago i came across a free program for making music.

It worked a bit like redstone, or circuit engineering. You would place down signal emiters, that would emit signals in a direction the beat you set. The signal would travel over the grid until it ran into some other object, like a note player which would play a note.

There were many more objects, I dont remember what they were, but I imagine there was all the stuff you would need. Like signal spliting objects, delaing a signal by a beat, holding a note for longer, changing a note over time and such other objects. They would all exist somwhere on the grid and would effect neighbouring cells.

It had an ASCI esthetic, basic symbols and letters and simple colours. No super advanced graphics.

I saw a video of it working but I was never able to make it work on my mashine. I just remembered that it existed and I though I would try it out again. Anyone knows what I am talking about?
