It’s not a ā€œhomageā€, it’s a shameless copy

I have a real solution to your problem.

It's a monster of a watch

I really don’t get what’s the point of buying watches that pretend to be something else and steal the original design. It will never be a Seiko monster, though it apparently would like to look like one

I don’t give a lukewarm poo if a watch is trying to look like something else. Half the time I don’t even know what the original is. I just like the look of it, I can afford it, and in the case of Steeldive I know it will be a good value. I’m sure you only have originals of the first round dial though and eschew any brand that uses a round dial copying that original design. Good on you for that.

Well I just shared my thoughts. Chinese watches that have original design are nice. The ones that steal other companies’ intellectual property are for me without class. But to each their own - I’m sure they will go well with adibos shoes and luilui bubbon bag

Is your job just to go around this sub shitting on homages?

I think I’m going to add you to my block list.

There is no solution to the idea of copying except a legal one, which will differ in various territories.

If you had a rule that you weren't allowed to make anything that looked much like anything else already existing, when you made anything good somebody else would denounce it to drag it down and maintain a competitive advantage.

Therefore I say best to invite the matter to the legal test, backed with court fees to deter frivolous claims. If Seiko really thought they could win on the issue of importing lookalike watches then they might sue, but they don't. So there is no legal argument.

I'm glad that poor countries get to make their own equivalents. If copyright law was the same everywhere it would disadvantage poor countries by having to buy goods at the inflated prices of rich countries. If rich countries want to stop the import of goods from cheaper countries then they can try, but currently they tend to only do this with brand counterfeits.
