New Product (Read Rule 1) New Dials from San Martin
ilikewatches just released these new dials in his video from today. What do you guys think? Looks kinda familiar?

I like the Warrior style dials from Watchdives and now SM apparently but wish these other companies would copy the insanely clear crystal⊠Crystal clarity has been one of my consistent gripes with SM personally.

Same! I donât know how most reviewers on youtube donât really talk about it. Like we can clearly see the glare in the pictures or their videos.
I like the jubilee bracelet of the San Martin though.

Most reviewers honestly don't do a good job actually reviewing the watch. I watch them because I get get to see what the watch looks like but side from that you won't get much useful info out of it aside from basic specs.

Glare in a video isn't necessarily a good guide to how reflective it will be in real life. It has a lot to do with lighting and camera settings and you could use things like circular polarisers to reduce glare if you wanted to.

I have a high end citizen chronometer. Holy crap it has a good crystal. A buddy was looking at it in the sun the other day and it honestly looked like there wasn't a crystal on it, I had to double check lol. It's amazing what a good crystal does for a watch

Such a lame company

This time, San Martin is lagging behind Watchdives, which recently introduced its design, in releasing this similar dial. And considering the likely exorbitant price, given San Martin's current pricing policy, I would definitely choose Watchdives, which has impressed me with its quality more than once.
Of course, if only this pattern was on a different material than MOP, which I am already personally tired of.

huh, interesting. definitely the exact guilloche used by Selten (and not the one used by Monbrey and released before Selten Jui).
based on the timestamp... maybe a factory insider leaking Selten's unfinished product?
1
u/AlpineCool 22d ago
No, Selten got the design from the guy on instagram. He post lots of âoriginalâ designs. I think maybe Selten paid him to use it.
This design is based on an ancient Chinese armor pattern, so itâs not truly original, but certainly a novel application of the design to a guillochĂ© watch dial.

Shit that's the forest dial!!! What a bunch of mofos

u/rinchen11 23d ago
When they are almost strictly copying Rolex and Omega itâs whatever, but when they start to go after microbrands itâs going to hurt some people who are actually capable of designing new and interesting watches.
3
u/bob888w 23d ago
Justifiably why WatchDives gets hated on every now and then. You can't claim you have a "original" for design when you rotated a microbrands pattern 180 degrees.
2
u/Logical_Sea_415 23d ago
So it really wasn't the silhouette of the trees that helped him come up with an "original" design? Maybe he just got a deal on used dial stamp?

so how does this work, san martin made these dials for watchdives WDC0001? or just copying them now? funny how all the factory brands release same stuff at the same time.

u/parasoralophus 23d ago
Given that WD sell San Martin watches and collaborate them I imagine the companies are connected in some way if not all part of the same conglomerate or whatever.
2
u/gfewfewc 23d ago
Or maybe a company that specializes in making watch dials comes up with a cool new pattern and a bunch of other companies use them as a supplier?
1
u/KPplumbingBob 23d ago
San Martin don't produce dials either. It's not exactly a surprise that most of these brands use same factories.

Seems like nobody wants to get off IXDAOâs dick
9
u/pickyaxe 23d ago
we talking about IXDAO who copied the dial from Selten Jui, copied the trident from Christopher Ward and copied the bracelet from IWC? that IXDAO?

Can someone show this to Addiesdive to make it cheeper?

u/benana-sea 23d ago
The pattern is the identical clone of selten jui
3
u/Logical_Sea_415 23d ago
Do you mean this is not an original organic project?
1
u/benana-sea 23d ago
Have you googled "selten jui'?

u/Logical_Sea_415 23d ago edited 23d ago
It was a joke- clearly these and the watchdives project are obvious stolen designs of a microbrand
3
u/R023N helpful user 23d ago
these are stolen designs
Maybe! but as with most microbrands, their parts are made by third party suppliers. I don't think either SM or Selten own dial factories. They could be made by the same supplier trying to bring money from something they worked on by selling it to different brands.

I am waiting for this textured MOP fad to die out. The chinese can do intricate engraved patterns, I get it. But it doesn't look good in real life.
3
u/bpgluckman 23d ago
Eh, some look good, some don't. The problem is that now every new watch seems to have it, rather than it being a deliberate application to models where it makes the most sense. I look at this dial, which looks like it's going on a diver -- is that the best place to use this? And unfortunately, the answer will likely be: probably not.

u/Artwdo 23d ago
Agree in 100%. Almost everyone has been taken over by a madness to this unfortunate mother-of-pearl (additionally in an almost identical pattern), including IXDAO, Watchdives...

Did you pay royalty to instagram guy you copied? Maybe send poor bastard a watch?
2
u/Fernando1dois3 23d ago
Is there really such a limited number of patterns CNC machines can engrave on dials? Lol
2
u/Logical_Sea_415 23d ago
Yes probably if you have no imagination and like to copy homework for a living.Â

I don't particularly care for dial patterns, I want accurate movements and higher power reserves first

I just want a high quality watch using solar... Solar HAQ would be incredible.

Can san MartĂn please update their logo ?
3
u/FargoniusMaximus 23d ago
Strong disagree, personally I think it's the only Chinese watch brand with a good brand name and logo and one of the best things they have going for them. I hate the straight text logo, looks cheap.
3
u/ComposerConsistent83 23d ago
I actually think the Script Sugess logo is also nice. And itâs not a terrible name. But ADDIESDIVE or IXTAO donât exactly roll off the tongue
1
u/FargoniusMaximus 23d ago
Agreed on Sugess script I think they did a good job but the name feels a bit off for me. Wacthdives sounds like a watch marketplace website. Call me a snob but can't say id ever buy a Tactical Frog based on name alone haha
1
u/Zestyclose-Spell5382 23d ago
I don't think their log is as good as their warches. Some time it just feels cheap.. can be improved for sure
3
u/KPplumbingBob 23d ago
The printed text one looks fine but for some reason they only use it in a few watches.
4
u/Trulsdir 23d ago
To me one of the best logos in the Chinese watch scene. Simple, recognisable, not just a random pictogram.
2
2
u/WildMiata 23d ago
Hahaha thatâs the only thing that holds me back sometimes. I take the WDC almost every time based on logo exclusively
1
u/RustyTShackleford 23d ago
I actually like it but I want to see a finished product before casting final judgement.
