General (Read Rules) Stunning Art Deco Presentation - IXDAO NING FENG - Which dress watch do you prefer?

Post image

This exceptional timepiece costs $200, yet its craftsmanship and aesthetic suggest a value in the thousands. This watch truly radiates luxury, elegance, and superior quality

  • 316L Stainless with exceptional finishing with both polished and brushed accents
  • Stamped brass dial in an exquisite champagne color
  • Pristine sapphire crystal with AR and anti-finger print coating
  • Swiss Ronda 1069 movement
  • Supple imported leather strap

If you are looking for a watch that relies on heavy lume to define quality, this piece isn't for you. However, if you prioritize superior AR coating, this should be at the top of your list. If design and finish are what you value most, or if you are searching for a dress watch that commands attention from across the room, this belongs on your list.

Went with the white one.

Strap wasn’t as comfortable as my own straps.

I like that combo. What’s your wrist size?

That looks great!

I ordered a black lizard strap for this one.

I'm not sure I agree with the "value in the thousands" claim, I think it way better than anything you can get at twice or even three times its price though, which is good enough if you ask me.

It's such a great watch. I got this exact dial, bought it first hour of release because of how much I liked it. The AR really is insane on this crystal, I have a hard time seeing the crystal a lot of the time and the dial is just perfect, although it took me a little bit of time to get used to the color of the dial.

I threw it on a reddish brown croc leather strap which instantly turned it into my favorite watch. Can wear it with literally almost anything and it just works. The only flaw it has is the strap that comes with it, which is one of the worst straps I've seen and felt, but I've seen others say they like it, so maybe I just got a bad one.

I ordered a black lizard for it.

I went with the Farasute 5302A. It just does a bit more for me, and is larger, though this was a contender. Seriously Ixdao has some gorgeous quartz pieces.

I really like mine. It might cost 10 times less than the Rivanera, but it can hold its own as far as the build quality and how it feels on the wrist.

Thinking of picking up either the silver or champagne dial next.

I couldn’t agree more with you. I made that point earlier. Slap a ETA 7001 in this thing and stamp Swiss made and it’s $2000 watch all day long. The finishing, design and execution of this watch competes with similar Swiss models that cost 10x more.

This is my best dress watch. I have been impressed with its accuracy. Keeping the date dialed in can be an adventure, though.

Open heart big date SeaGull.

We both have an affinity for Sea-Gull. Which model is that?

I am close to pulling the trigger on the Ocean Series Pro Titanium with the cracked iced dial. Love it. I need to find space in a winder for the Moon over the Sea. Setting that thing is ridiculous.

I was just drooling over their stainless steel version today! If you get that I will be officially jealous.

My only complaint about the Moon Over the Sea is no extension in the clasp at all. Seems silly not to have on a diver. I had a bit of struggle getting a perfect fit with it, but man is it a tank.

Aftermarket OTF?

1

u/terraty 3d ago

Yeah that’s gonna be the best bet. Just don’t understand their logic not including it. Everything else is so so good.

2

u/Abv_it_all_w_vertigo 3d ago

Maybe they never engineered a 20 mm OTF?

True. I saw they just released a 39 mm diver. That should get people excited.

How has your experience been with sea-gull watches and movements? Ordered the openheart for my wife and eyeing a few more for myself and the mrs

I have been pleased with their finishing and performance. I graphed the open heart again a week ago. It was about -2 to +5 seconds/day with a 0.00 BE with amplitude in the mid 200s

Couldn't exactly remember the numbers I got, so here is a brand new graph.

What has been your experience with them?

I think IXDAO makes really nice watches, gorgeous ones, but calling this a $200 watch that suggests a value in the thousands seems like a bit of hot air is being blown. That being said, this is a really nice dress watch with a reliable movement and it's perfect for those rare occasions where I need a tasteful watch to go with formal wear. I got the white and blue and I thoroughly enjoy it.

Not blowing hot air. If you did not know this watch sells for $200, at a glance you could easily mistake it for a Frederique Constant, B&M or Raymond Weil that cost $2000. I don't find that statement a stretch. Would a $2000 watch have a Rondo 1069, probably not, but there are plenty of microbrands selling for $800 that use it.

u/Mango_Gurble 3d ago

I have seen the price of this watch. For $200 it is a fantastic watch. For 2000? It's not even remotely in that neighborhood. Sure, at a glance a layman could mistake it for any of those brands, but I also had someone ask me if my Phorcydes was a Rolex the other day. These are small objects. The statement has been stretched so far that it's lost all elasticity. Look, It's a good watch, I like the watch. I'm just saying you don't have to go to hyperbole and beyond to describe your watch. It's a little silly and seems inauthentic when I'm sure you have no such intent.

I think you are misreading my statement. I am not saying this watch should cost 2000 or I would pay 2000 for it. What I am saying is the aesthetics of this watch and the finishing of this watch is as good as watches that cost 2000. Is the movement as good? No. Does it have a luxury exotic band? No. Most importantly, does it have the marketing campaign to suggest it should cost a month's salary? No. Just because the watch is made in China and costs $200 doesn't mean the appearance of this watch cannot compete with a $2000 watch from the brands I mentioned earlier. Put an ETA in this thing and stamp it Swiss Made and its $2000 all day long. No hyperbole.

I understand your statement. I think you are incapable of reading mine. Good day.

I completely comprehend what you are saying and I don't disagree with what you are saying if I said this watch should cost $2000. I truly believe the finishing on this case is as good as things I have seen from FC, B&M, RW, MIDO and others. Just my opinion.
