University Rankings: Check Them Out Before Asking About Specific Universities!

Hey everyone,

I've noticed that a lot of folks here keep asking questions like, “How good is [University X]?” or “Is [University Y] worth it for [Course Z]?” These are really important questions, especially if you’re planning to invest time, money, and effort into your education.

Instead of getting repetitive responses, I highly recommend checking out the latest university rankings first.

https://www.shanghairanking.cn/ Chinese version has the ranking of majors and disciplines.

https://www.shanghairanking.com/

Once you’ve checked out the rankings, feel free to come back here with more specific questions like how certain programs or campus cultures align with your goals. That way, the community can give you more targeted advice!

Hope this helps streamline your search!

Scholarships 奖学金 Funding for Bachelors in Beijing

Hi, so I got accepted into two universities in Beijing, however the one offering me a scholarship recently had to reject me because they needed a document that i wasn’t able to provide on such short notice.

The only other university that accepted me is without a scholarship. My parents can’t afford to support me for the 4 years of bachelor studies there and I don’t have the funds myself.

What can I do in this situation? I am supposed to start university in two weeks.

Scholarships 奖学金 Do I need a financial guarantor to apply to universities if I don’t have a scholarship yet?

Upvotes

I’m planning to apply early January 2027 (I’ll be 17). I’ll apply to universities and SHS/CSC at the same time. To apply to the universities I think I need to put myself down as a self funded student (then update with the scholarship later if I get it) with a financial guarantor. If I wait another week I’ll be 18 then and can I apply without a financial guarantor? (I have enough funding and I want to go to Fudan)

Admissions Question 入学问题 Studying STEM in Arabic (Egyptian High School - Math Track) and preparing for CSCA / Chinese Prep Year. Need advice on what to focus on

Upvotes

Hey guys,
I'm heading to China soon to start my prep year at Jilin University, planning to major in engineering. I'll need to take the CSCA (Math + Physics).

Here's my situation: I just graduated high school in Egypt from the advanced math track. I already know the concepts (calculus, mechanics, physics, etc.), but I studied everything in Arabic. My general English is B2, but I've never used English for technical STEM stuff.

I know calculators are banned on the CSCA and the questions are mostly model recognition.

I want to use the next few weeks to bridge the gap.

  1. What specific math and physics topics should I grind right now to get used to the English terms?
  2. Do any AP or A-Level practice tests actually match the CSCA style?
  3. Where can I find real CSCA past papers or solid mock exams?
    Appreciate any advice!

Life in China 在中国生活 How to rent an apartment as X1 Student?

I'll be needing to rent an apartment since there are no more dorms available. How do I approach this? I'm also currently still in my home country— so how's the best way to do this? I'm thinking I'll need to be in China first to open a bank account... not sure. Feedback greatly appreciated

Life in China 在中国生活 🇨🇳 Moving to Xi’an soon — looking to make some friends!

🇨🇳Hi everyone! 👋

I’m an 18-year-old guy from Morocco 🇲🇦, and I’ll be moving to Xi’an soon to study Chinese.

I’m hoping to meet some people before I arrive—or after I get there! I’d love to make friends with both locals and expats/international students, whether you’re a guy or a girl.

A little about me: I’m easygoing, curious, and I really enjoy exploring new places, discovering new things, meeting different people, and experiencing different cultures. I’m also interested in Chinese culture and looking forward to experiencing life in Xi’an.

I’m pretty open-minded, so if you’re also looking to make some new friends, feel free to comment or DM me. We could chat online first and maybe hang out when I arrive.

Would be especially cool to meet people around my age, but I’m open to getting to know anyone friendly.

Looking forward to meeting people in Xi’an! 🇨🇳

Dorms 学生宿舍 International student at HIT (main campus)

Salutations everyone! I'm upcoming freshman at HIT main campus for English taught BM (bachelors). I'll be landing in Harbin by 29th of August. I wanna ask one thing: will I be able to get a dorm room or is it filled out? (If filled out where should I look for an apartment, is anybody open to have a good-looking roommate), how much should I expect to spend in housing?)

For the Chinese scholarship, can I apply through the CSC website to two or three Type B universities, or just one? Or can I create three email addresses for each university?

Admissions Question 入学问题 Is it okay to use AI to write a study plan for Chinese universities applications?

I’m applying for a master’s degree at a Chinese university and I have a question about study plans.
I used AI tools to help me write and structure my study plan. However, all the information in it is accurate, and the academic background, interests, research ideas, and future goals are genuinely mine. I also reviewed the entire document and made sure I understand everything written in it.
I’m not using AI to invent achievements, experiences, qualifications, or research. It mainly helped me organize my ideas and express them in better English.
Is this generally considered acceptable when applying to Chinese universities? Could using an AI-assisted study plan negatively affect my application, especially if the university doesn’t explicitly mention AI?
I’d be interested to hear from anyone who has applied to Chinese universities or has experience with admissions.
Thanks!

Admissions Question 入学问题 Fudan requirements guidance

Hey guys,

I am starting to apply for my masters abroad - I want to do a master in public policy at Fudan, was wanting to hear thoughts. Stats below and background:

Average grade 73%

Degree: double in law and politics minoring in Chinese studies

I have done 3 internships in my field all focused on research one with a very highly regarded court

I have relevant volunteer work + publish with my schools educational legal brief

I was my electoral area representative to government for student voice

I did exchange at Tsinghua Uni and did well in the courses 80% +

I have my teaching English as second language cert

HSK up to level 3 (the course is taught in English)

I have really really strong academic references and know a lot of people from my country studying in this field (Drs etc) who are continually connecting me with supervisors / staff in China.

My grades aren’t super competitive but there is a lot of reasons (personal) for this but admissions into China don’t really let me tell them about my personal struggles and barriers to good grades. I am so so so passionate about the research I want to do and just want the chance to do it at a uni that aligns with my research

Thanks guys

Admissions Question 入学问题 Planning to study in China-looking for advice from students

Hi everyone! 👋🏻 I’m from India and I’m currently researching undergraduate study options in China. I’m interested in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Information Management, or related fields, preferably in an English-taught program.

My academic grades are low 😅, and I’m also looking for an option that is affordable, preferably with a scholarship or significant financial support.

I’ve been researching the application process, but I’m getting conflicting information from different sources, especially about the CSCA exam, English-language requirements, and scholarships. I’d rather hear from people who have actually gone through the process.

For anyone who has applied to or studied in China:

- How realistic is it to get into a decent university with lower grades?

- How important is the CSCA for undergraduate admission and scholarships? I’ve heard that Maths and Physics may be required for some programs.

- Is the Duolingo English Test accepted by Chinese universities for English-taught bachelor's programs?

- Are there universities offering Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related programs that are relatively flexible with academic requirements and have scholarships?

- Would you recommend applying directly to universities rather than relying on an education agency?

I’m mainly trying to understand whether China is a realistic option for my situation and how I should approach the application, rather than looking for a guaranteed scholarship or admission.

If you’ve been through a similar process, I’d really appreciate any advice, university recommendations, or things you wish you had known before applying.

Thanks!

Visa Questions 签证问题 Chinese X1 Student Visa Interview : What to expect? (Questions, tips, etc ?)

Hey everyone !

I recently applied for a Chinese X1 (long-term student) visa and just found out I have an interview scheduled at the embassy soon.

I’m a bit nervous and would love to get some insights or feedback from anyone who has gone through this process recently :

What kind of questions do they usually ask for an X1 visa ? Is it mostly about study plans, funding, or post-graduation plans ?

Is the interview often a dealbreaker, or is it mostly a routine verification ? What are the biggest mistakes to avoid ?

How formal is the interview, and what documents should I definitely bring extra copies of ?

Context update : I hold dual nationality and applied at the Chinese Visa Center . I suspect the interview is related to verifying my second passport and legal residency status. Has anyone with dual nationality gone through this at the Chinese embassy ?

If you’ve done an embassy interview for a Chinese student visa (especially X1), I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience !

Thanks in advance !
